Year 6,005 in the Huaxia Calendar
The Huaxia Federation carried out a moon landing mission. An astronaut set foot on the moon’s surface, marking a new milestone in space technology.
At this moment, the world’s technology had reached the limit of what Lin Jiang could imagine. Before traveling to this world, Blue Star’s technology was not much better.
He didn’t know what would come next, but he had countless advisors. He entrusted them with the next steps of imagination.
"Extraterrestrial Civilization Plan, this is the ultimate goal of technological development."
Lin Jiang set a goal for technology, which is to find alien civilizations.
There must be alien civilizations, and Lin Jiang has come from a planet called Blue Star. Like many travelers, Lin Jiang is curious about finding Blue Star, maybe to show off when he returns to Earth.
However, Lin Jiang isn’t attached to Blue Star because he only lived there for a few decades, while he has lived here for thousands of years (not counting the sleeping time). Here, he feels more at home.
Apart from Blue Star, there is also Yang Luo, another traveler. It’s unknown which world she comes from and if there are real immortals there.
It’s very difficult to find extraterrestrial civilizations. In this era, it is known that this place is like a star system, similar to the solar system. For example, the closest planet to Earth is Venus, which is over 40 million kilometers away. To fly out of the solar system is extremely challenging.
In this era, the Huaxia Federation has the most advanced technology, but their space technology develops a bit slowly. Currently, the fastest spacecraft’s speed is also in tens of thousands of kilometers per hour. Theoretically, it would take tens of thousands of hours to fly out of the solar system, but there are material and energy issues with the spacecraft.
"Sister Hua, could you please pass on a message for me to the experts at the space research institute below? Ask them to continue improving the speed of spacecraft so that in their lifetime, they can achieve interstellar travel. I can provide funding, adding an extra fifty billion research funds on top of the current budget annually if they can produce enough research results."
"Sir, right now space technology is mostly funded by you. Several years ago, the handling of the financial consortium was already high-profile. Adding more investment now, is it really necessary? Wouldn’t it affect you, sir?"
Sister Hua frowned. Following the Moon Island assassination incident, Lin Jiang began a major cleanup of the financial consortium under him. The leaders of two financial consortiums were directly killed, and almost all top officials were replaced.
This had already revealed some of Lin Jiang’s power. For some people, this was unacceptable, especially because nationalism is prevalent in this world. Being so high-profile might have a big impact.
"It’s okay, I have become powerful, they can’t do anything to me."
Lin Jiang calmly stated that he controls the largest food, energy, military, and internet conglomerates of the Huaxia Federation. Not only that, but he also has investments and influence in other financial groups and industries. Anyone trying to challenge him must think twice.
Even using the name of the Huaxia Federation would be difficult, because outsiders don’t know how much power Lin Jiang truly holds and how many people in politics and the military are loyal to him.
Their best option would be to make Lin Jiang physically die. If Lin Jiang dies, his power will be divided, and they can defeat them one by one and reclaim their assets. However, achieving this would be even harder because many people rely on Lin Jiang for their livelihood and would not allow it.
"Since you say so, let’s do as you suggest. Mr., do you want to go on an interstellar journey in the future?"
"Yes, people need to have goals, right? Are there still things in the world that are hard for me to obtain?"
"That’s true, it seems I need to live well and accompany Mr. on the interstellar journey."
Sister Hua nodded. She knew that with Lin Jiang’s current power and wealth, there was hardly anything in the world he couldn’t obtain. He’s tired of all the usual enjoyments and needs to seek something greater.
"Sister Hua is sure to live a long and healthy life."
"Lin Jiang laughed and said, Sister Hua has been by Lin Jiang’s side for these years. The previous secretarial team has been sent to retirement, and the new team still needs their guidance."
Haigang City, the original old city area
The old city area from the past is gone, all demolished and turned into tall skyscrapers. Lin Jiang has come this time to bid farewell to Li Chang, for the final journey.
The last time Lin Jiang came as a documentary director was over thirty years ago. One hundred and thirty-year-old Li Chang has reached the end of his life.
Li Chang’s grandson is already an old man in his eighties. In Jingdu City, the one handling the affairs after Li Chang’s passing is Li Chang’s great-grandson. They don’t know Lin Jiang, and they are unaware that Li Chang once knew such a prominent figure.
Old Chen and others have all come. They were Li Chang’s disciples, and now they are not young anymore. Old Chen has even retired.
"Sir."
"How is Li Chang doing?"
"His inner strength has been drained, holding on to the last breath."
"I’ll just chat with him."
"Let’s go outside first."
"No need, everyone stay, they are not strangers."
Lin Jiang shook his head, these men had been his personal bodyguards for many years, not outsiders.
"Sir, you have arrived."
"Yes, let me give you a ride."
"Sir, you are so young, I remember when I was twelve, you took me out of the orphanage, you were so young back then, it’s really shocking."
"Didn’t you already know?"
"Although I’m aware and shocked, I can’t stay by Mr.’s side for long."
"You were born in the wrong era."
Lin Jiang said. If Li Chang was born in an era of cultivating immortality, perhaps he would have been a talented leader. His talents, personality, and efforts were all top-notch.
"Maybe, but I was once the most formidable assassin in the world, which is impressive enough, isn’t it?"
"Yes, you’re the best."
"Sir, my grandson is approaching death, and his great-grandchildren are already unfamiliar to me, but they are still my descendants. Please take care of them."
"No problem, as long as they don’t seek trouble themselves, they can live peacefully for a lifetime."
Lin Jiang nodded. Li Chang’s family was not short of money; his pension had increased to ten thousand a month in recent years. The pension had been paid for decades, and they were even part of the demolition households. As long as they didn’t seek trouble, they could live comfortably for a lifetime.
"Yes, back then, when times were chaotic, many people sought stability." Thɪs chapter is updated by noᴠelfire.net
Li Chang became very talkative, speaking about many past events, especially his childhood memories. It was during the First World War back then, and now it has been many years since the end of the Second World War. Time has passed so quickly that his memory seems to be falling behind.
After talking for a long time, Li Chang fell asleep, perhaps he could not wake up.
"Sir"
"You should leave now too. Li Chang’s affairs will be taken care of by his descendants. Go back and enjoy your retirement."
"Okay."
Old Chen and a few others nodded. They had also come to see off Li Chang on his final journey. They were all old people and knew that someday it would be their turn.
Lin Jiang led Old Chen and the others away. Along the way, they were not feeling too good, so he took them to a restaurant to eat. After a few bottles of wine, Old Chen and the others became more talkative.
The group chatted and reminisced about the past, which made Lin Jiang feel even worse.
He was truly afraid of parting with loved ones due to experiencing numerous separations over the years. This was the reason why Lin Jiang was afraid to have children, despite several pleas from Sister Hua and others. Lin Jiang was indeed hesitant to freely express his emotions.
"Committing suicide with a single sword."
Lin Jiang sighed, this was not the first time Lin Jiang had sighed. If he could erase his memories now, perhaps he would really do it.
