Chapter 461:
Wilderness, Demon God Temple
Above the Demon God Temple, a throne appeared, with Phoenix Demon Emperor leading a group of old Demon Emperors behind him. Following them were a group of newly promoted Demon Emperors or Demon Kings, who were all young demon experts previously selected as Demon Emperor Seeds.
"Demon Emperor, Demon Queen have arrived."
With a loud shout, Feng Jiu and Lin Fanghua entered. The two demons were dressed in splendid human-like clothes, walking towards the throne under the gaze of the other demons.
"Greetings, Demon Emperor."
"Greetings, Demon Queen."
The demons bowed to Feng Jiu and Lin Fanghua. Feng Jiu gestured for them to rise, and the demons returned to their positions.
"The coronation ceremony of the Demon Emperor has passed. Today, important matters concerning our demon race will be discussed in the Demon God Temple. I have been in power for less than a year, yet I have already received news of many human invasions..."
Feng Jiu said to the demons that the Demon Emperor’s registration ceremony happened three months ago, but it wasn’t very grand. Since there aren’t many shape-shifting demons in the demon clan, those without forms have limited intelligence, and they don’t feel very involved.
Today, Feng Jiu declared that the war has begun. The conflicts between the demon clan and the human clan have become sharper in recent years. The incredibly powerful human clan has brought great confidence to its people. Many major sects have personally intervened, sending elite disciples into the Wilderness, trying to regain control there.
Naturally, the demon clan couldn’t allow this and sent out many Demon Kings to battle. However, the demon clan suffered losses with many skilled demons falling in battle.
The demon clan was unwilling to tolerate this. Since before the incident where the Demon Emperor of the demon clan lost to the Green Emperor of the human clan among over twenty thousand years ago, in the face of the sharp conflict between the two clans, the demon clan generally tended to retreat. This was because the demon clan was too scattered, lacking a unified leader. In a real fight, the demon clan would definitely suffer.
This kind of retreat caused significant losses for the demon clan. Setting aside other issues, currently, two-thirds of the territory of Bing State used to belong to the demon clan, gradually lost over tens of thousands of years.
Now that the demon clan has a Demon Emperor, they naturally refused to retreat any further. Feng Jiu also needed to strengthen his position through war. Otherwise, a Demon Emperor who cannot bring benefits to the demon clan would not be able to lead others.
"Punish the human clan, restore the glory of the demon clan."
"March to Zhong State, turn all humans into slaves."
Feng Jiu’s words completely ignited the morale of the demons in the Demon God Temple. The veteran Demon Emperors wanted to restore the former glory of the demon clan, once again standing at the top of the world and becoming the masters of this world.
The new demon clans needed territory to settle in. Since the old Demon Emperor had not fallen, their territory was very weak and didn’t have the same status as the Demon Emperor’s, so they naturally had to demand from the human clan.
"Phoenix Demon Emperor, Peng Bird Demon Emperor."
"Yes."
"I command you to send the elites of your clans to different parts of the Wilderness, making the Demon Kings there gather their people to join our battle against the human clan."
"Yes, Demon Emperor."
"Send orders to the Demon Kings and Demon Emperors in other Wilderness areas isolated by the human clan, telling them to prepare early and coordinate with the Demon God Temple."
After thinking for a moment, Feng Jiu continued. To the west of Liang State, there is a large area of Wilderness, but their connection with the Demon God Temple is weak. They are mostly independent and may not obey the Demon God Temple’s orders. Feng Jiu hopes to persuade them to join forces and attack the human clan together.
Bing State borders with the Wilderness, but the boundary is very unclear as it keeps shifting and expanding. Generally, only when all the demon clans within a certain territory are removed can it be called a human territory.
Otherwise, it’s the outskirts of Wilderness, where many humans are active. Some independent cultivators settle in the outskirts of Wilderness, establish families or sects, and slowly develop them. When the surrounding monsters are cleared out, it becomes human territory. If the area is large enough, new regions like Bing State will appear.
Further into the outskirts of Wilderness is the frontline of Wilderness, deep within it. This is where various factions establish strongholds, and human cultivators expand outward from these strongholds.
"Bang, bang, bang..."
Inside a certain stronghold, the cultivators suddenly heard the sound of drums, deep and powerful, coming from a distant place, startling them.
"Who’s beating the drums, who is it..."
"It can’t be from another stronghold. Even if a stronghold is surrounded by monsters, they would use Sound Passing Talismans as a warning, not beat drums."
"Could it be a stronghold launching a major attack on the monsters, drumming up morale for battle?"
The cultivators inside the stronghold were all discussing what could be happening, unsure of the situation.
The Soul Changing cultivator guarding the stronghold was also alarmed, not knowing what was going on. He had to strengthen defenses, send elite troops out of the stronghold to gather information from independent cultivators hunting monsters and treasures outside.
Over ten people were ordered to leave their base, split into several small teams, and venture into the heart of the Wilderness. Not long after, one of the teams stumbled upon a group of around dozens of independent cultivators flying towards them frantically.
"Taoist friend, what’s happening up ahead? Why did the sound of drums suddenly appear?"
"Taoist friend, hurry, that sound of drums is summoning demonic beasts. The demon clan is unleashing a beast tide."
"What, a beast tide? Taoist friend, please don’t talk nonsense."
"Why would I lie to you? Countless demonic beasts have already appeared ahead, coming towards us in vast numbers. If we don’t run now, it will be too late."
The independent cultivators replied, then passed by the team, continuing to flee forward as if there were indeed countless demonic beasts chasing them from behind.
"Brother, look..."
Just when the group didn’t know what to do, a cultivator suddenly cried out in surprise. They immediately looked up and witnessed a scene that would stay etched in their memories forever.
They saw countless demonic beasts emerging in the distant mountain forests. The beasts stretched as far as the eye could see, kicking up dust clouds like a terrifying sandstorm. The sky was filled with numerous flying demonic beasts circling, as if providing cover for the demonic beast army.
"Beasts, a horde of beasts..."
The leader of the group was shocked. He had spent a long time in the Wilderness, but this was the first time he had seen such a terrifying number of monsters. It was impossible to count.
"Master, the news has been confirmed. The Demon Emperor of the monsters has ordered the assembly of almost all the monsters, mobilizing countless monster beasts and advancing towards the human race. The eastern front of Bing State, the northeast of Zhong State, and the entire front of He State are all on high alert. They have already clashed with the Wilderness strongholds of various sects. The sects have decided to withstand the pressure from the monsters and support the strongholds."
"What is that drumming sound?"
"It’s the Kuiniu Drum, made from the hide of a seventh-grade Kuiniu. It was a powerful weapon of the previous Demon Emperor. When the drum beats, monster beasts go into a frenzy, fearless of danger and death, increasing their combat power by at least thirty percent."
"Do the major sects have a way to counter it?"
"Not sure at the moment. We haven’t been able to gather information from the outside world."
"What is the reaction of the major sects in Zhong State?"
Lin Jiang asked again, in the world of cultivation, Zhong State is the decisive one. The experts in Zhong State make up about 70% of the whole cultivation world.
"There is no news yet, but there are many rumors outside. Some say the Zhong State sects are going to join the war, deciding to have a world-shaking battle between human and demon races, just like the Green Emperor did in the past."
"Is the news accurate?"
"It’s hard to verify, but the disciples inside the major sects are very vocal. This is related to their sudden increase in strength over the past few hundred years. Once the disciples without a background reach a certain level of strength, they can no longer progress. They need military achievements and spoils of war to profit."
"It seems that both human and demon races have grown to a certain stage of strength. Internally, they can no longer digest this force and can only launch a war. Either they defeat and merge the enemy, or they use war to consume a batch of strength."
"Master, that’s almost the meaning of it. What should we do, join the war?"
Li Qing said, she no longer cares about other sects, she only cares about the Wangxian Sect. Wangxian Sect has been established for hundreds of years and is deeply rooted here.
"Prepare to retreat."
"Retreat, master, but what about that sect?"
"Do you know the secret behind this battle?"
"I don’t know."
"Then listen to me, I have never let you suffer losses before."
Lin Jiang doubted that this great battle was the beginning of the end of the world, so the Wangxian Sect absolutely refused to join in, to be cannon fodder for others, neither the demon clan nor the human clan, he would not stand for it.
"Master, how about withdrawing? Wangxian Sect is now a big family with tens of thousands of disciples, and when you add up their families, it’s in the hundreds of thousands or even millions. Moreover, how does Pure Jade Sect view us? We are technically followers of Pure Jade Sect."
I cannot help all the disciples. You select the strong disciples, secretly go to Zhong State to hide. Zhong State is located in the center of the world, usually safe. If the battle reaches Zhong State, the human clan is also in big trouble, then it’s time to fight again. As for the other disciples, leave it to fate. Quietly sell off most of the sect’s assets, for travel expenses when the time comes, everyone must look after themselves.
As for Pure Jade Sect, ignore them. The Wilderness Stronghold remains undefeated, they will not take action formally yet. The distance between the Pure Jade Sect’s main gate and the Wilderness is far, if they do take action, there will be time. When the disciples are dispersed, what can they do?
Lin Jiang, who has been a follower of Pure Jade Sect for so many years, don’t think he is willingly following them. If Pure Jade Sect dares to force him, Lin Jiang will be the first to rebel against Pure Jade Sect.
Li Qing fell silent, not willing to argue with Lin Jiang but silently wondering what Lin Jiang was thinking, why he was so negative, and what hidden motives lay behind this great battle?
