Chapter 463:
North of Yun State, in the Yunzhong Mountain Range
"The expected visitor has arrived. According to the information we gathered, the Demon Emperor sent by the Demon God Temple is a Wild Bear with a strength equivalent to the mid-seventh rank, just slightly stronger than me."
"According to the Encyclopedia of Ten Thousand Demons, the bloodline of a Wild Bear is among the top of ordinary demon races, comparable to some weaker divine beasts. This particular Wild Bear also carries bloodlines of other divine beasts, placing it at a moderate level within the Demon God Temple."
Outside Yunyang Sect, Cao Ying and Lin Jiang shared the information they knew. The Demon God Temple had some understanding of the basic situation of the human race and knew that Cao Ying had recently achieved the Tao, so they sent a mid-seventh rank Wild Bear Demon Emperor. Lin Jiang had received more accurate information from Small Shadiao.
"Let’s fight first and then decide. Let’s test the levels of the demon clan."
Cao Ying mentioned that Yun State had one more card to play, Lin Die. Although Lin Die had been secluded recently and ignoring the affairs of Yun State, she believed that if Yun State truly faced trouble, Lin Die would not stand by.
"The demon clan has started their attack."
Lin Jiang also said that at this moment, the demon clan had already cleared the further human stronghold and had started to attack the Yunyang Sect. All of Yun State’s forces in the northern part of Yunzhong Mountain Range were on the side of Yunyang Sect, as the demon clan was planning to launch their biggest battle from the north to the south.
A quarter of an hour later, the demon clan’s attack officially began. The first to arrive were the Spirit Devouring Demonic Ants, a terrifying number of Demon Insects. They flew in overwhelming numbers and landed on the formations outside Yunyang Sect, frantically devouring everything. Even though some cultivators tried to use spiritual talismans to get rid of hundreds of Demon Insects, it was futile. In the face of these Demon Insects, their efforts were like a drop in the bucket.
"Boom"
"Boom"
Before the formation could be broken, the demon clan’s second wave of attack appeared. It consisted of giant demon beasts resembling bears, elephants, and wild boars, bombarding the formation aggressively, aiming to violently break through it.
"Look at the sky. The demon clan seems to have a strategy. Once the defensive formation is breached, flying demon beasts from above will swoop down, followed by ground demons charging in. At that point, it will be impossible to resist."
Someone pointed to the sky. At that moment, thousands of demons were hovering in the sky, waiting to swoop down after the breach of the formation. It seemed that the demon clan also had tactical experts.
"Gather the God Slaying Crossbows, target the center of the demon clan, send out elite troops to repel the breached demons, then use fire-based spells and spiritual talismans to eliminate the Spirit Devouring Demonic Ants."
Cao Ying issued a command. Immediately, the Yunyang Sect assembled all their God Slaying Crossbows and began firing without hesitation. The God Slaying Crossbows were powerful magical treasures, which Yunyang Sect didn’t possess on their own. They were borrowed from the battlements of the three allied forces’ cities, with new ones still being constructed.
With a loud bang, tens of thousands of warriors from the Yunyang Sect flew out of their defensive formation to battle the demons. Most of these warriors, about 80%, came from all over Yun State and had regrouped after their forces were scattered.
The fighting was very fierce. As soon as the two sides made contact, there were heavy casualties. Lin Jiang witnessed cultivators being devoured by demons and others being trampled to death after being cut down by the demons.
Today’s battle was still in the probing stage. The experts from both sides had not joined the battle yet and were watching from the sidelines.
"The human race in Yun State is quite strong, with so many experts."
Wild Bear stood in the middle of the demon army and saw Cao Ying and others. Most of Yun State’s experts were gathered here, apart from those needed to guard elsewhere. They looked like a significant number.
"Demon Emperor, how can we compare the puny humans from Yun State to you, our great leader? If you make a move, you will surely crush them effortlessly..."
Heavenly Fox Demon King flattered Wild Bear, the strongest demon in the Yun State region, a late-stage Sixth Rank Demon King. Maybe after advancing to the Seventh Rank, it wouldn’t lose to Wild Bear, but for now, it had to bow down.
While enjoying the praise from Heavenly Fox Demon King, Wild Bear kept a close watch on the battlefield. Despite liking the flattering Demon King, he remained very calm and wouldn’t risk joining the battle hastily. That’s not how you play a trump card right from the start.
The demon casualties on the battlefield were definitely higher than the humans, but casualties were not a good indicator when fighting demons. To the demon cultivators, the non-transformed demon beasts were not considered part of their race, except for their direct offspring. These beasts were even less valuable than disposable tools – if they died, no one cared.
"Send another group of monsters up there, don’t give them time to rest."
The Wild Bear Demon Emperor commanded the monsters to keep attacking, they must crush the enemy in one go.
He didn’t know exactly how many monsters were under his command, and even the Demon King below probably didn’t know. They were everywhere, endless, just keep using them.
"Leader, the monster clan has reinforced again. Continuing like this would be like adding fuel to the fire, it’s a big taboo in warfare. We should leverage our own advantages, use formations, weapons, and spiritual talismans to weaken the enemy. We shouldn’t fight them head-on."
A disciple from the Five Elements Sect told Cao Ying that the reinforcements of the monster clan were causing great distress to the cultivators of the Yun State, leading to even greater casualties. If they didn’t want everyone outside the battle formation to die, they had to keep reinforcing their troops. This continuous cycle of battles is like adding fuel to the fire.
"Send everyone out at once, don’t linger in the fight, push back the monster clan’s vanguard, grab the monster corpses, then burn the rest with fire."
After thinking about it, Cao Ying said she agreed, they shouldn’t fight too hard against the monster clan. If they exhausted all their troops, it would be difficult to defend later on.
Cao Ying gave the order, and soon, tens of thousands of people from the Yunyang Sect flew out and engaged in intense combat with the monster clan’s vanguard. Those who had fought before were allowed to retreat, taking all the monster corpses they could carry with them.
The corpses on the battlefield were the food that the monster clan used to sustain their war effort. If not taken away and destroyed, the monsters would ruthlessly devour those corpses, whether they belonged to humans or monsters, making them stronger and stronger.
"Back, quickly back."
"Set fire."
The demons were happy to see the human reinforcements. The Wild Bear Demon Emperor sent demon beasts to join the battle. But as soon as the demon beasts moved, the humans ordered a retreat. They also scattered numerous fire spiritual talismans, setting fire to the demon corpses on the ground.
"I’m so angry, Demon King attack."
"An enemy at the level of Demon King is moving. Cultivators above Nascent Soul level, go to battle to protect the disciples."
The Wild Bear was furious and ordered the Demon King to attack. Cao Ying also met the challenge by immediately deploying cultivators above Nascent Soul level to protect the disciples and evacuate.
Bing State, Yuya Mountain
Yuya Mountain is the farthest vassal power in the east under the Pure Jade Sect. Beyond Yuya Mountain to the east lies a territory spanning tens of thousands of miles under Bing State’s jurisdiction. However, they are no longer a vassal of Pure Jade Sect due to the distance. Pure Jade Sect finds it inconvenient to manage them, so they don’t pay attention to them anymore. If it weren’t for this major battle, perhaps soon, when a new first-class sect emerges in this area, a new province will have to be established.
At Yuya Mountain, a strong line of defense was being built north and south. Many War Fortresses were being built quickly. In the air and on the ground, there were many cultivators and ordinary people escaping as refugees.
"Ancestor, several sects are asking for help. They can’t hold on anymore. The Immortal Alliance has been requesting our troops for support."
A Void Achieving cultivator from the Pure Jade Sect spoke to a Tao Achieving cultivator, "The sects ahead are nearly wiped out. They don’t have a single Tao Achieving. How can they resist the power of the demons? Bing State is the main target of the demons."
"Forget about them. As for the Immortal Alliance, let them send people and supplies. If they don’t, the Pure Jade Sect will close its doors."
The Tao Achieving cultivator from the Pure Jade Sect said coldly, "Those sects in Bing State, acting all high and mighty usually. A few days ago, Pure Jade Sect sent messengers asking them to join us, to become our vassals. They accused Pure Jade Sect of taking advantage of their situation and none of them agreed. Why should Pure Jade Sect sacrifice for them?"
As for the Immortal Alliance, they have no control over them. Pure Jade Sect will do as it pleases. If the Immortal Alliance refuses to send troops or money, then Pure Jade Sect will close off its mountain, keeping its power within the sect and abandoning everything else. When the demons come, they will march straight into Zhong State and attack directly. Let’s see who is afraid.
"Ancestor, but..."
"Do as I say."
"Yes."
"Send more people to check the battlefield situation and speed up the defense line construction."
The cultivator from Pure Jade Sect continued. If things go well, our sect might benefit from this human and demon battlefield, without necessarily being at a disadvantage.
