North State, a certain village
This is a village with only a few hundred people. When Lin Family’s flying boat landed, Lin Batian exerted a little pressure, and the people in the village knelt down, showing their submission.
Later, someone brought a beautiful lady, food, and baskets of minerals to buy their lives.
Lin Batian didn’t want those things, he just took a few shabby houses to rest. The nights here were already very cold, but the cold didn’t pose a threat to them, they just didn’t want to move.
The next day, Lin Batian sent people to leave the village to explore the news in different parts of North State. Although he knew roughly what was happening, the intelligence wasn’t detailed enough.
"I have checked, this village is very poor. They couldn’t find a single spirit stone in the whole village, only some tools of the magical artifact level. The entire village relies on mining in exchange for food, barely surviving. The iron ore outside the village is of good quality."
"The people in this village don’t cultivate immortal techniques, but they have a strong demon bloodline. Each of them is physically strong, and in terms of individual strength, they are not inferior to the mid-stage of Qi Refining. Some individuals can even reach the strength of the Building Foundation Period."
"It’s like a physical cultivator who uses martial skills to enter the Dao·····"
"They have already become accustomed to poverty and weakness. If a powerful immortal force comes, they will offer women and minerals as a means of protecting their lives. There are several groups of bandits nearby who will come to collect money on time, like protection fees or taxes."
"Seeing the leopard through the tube, there should be many small villages like this in North State."
Several high-level members of the Lin family gathered together to discuss. In just one day, they learned all the details about this village. Their goal was to figure out how to get a slice of the chaotic North State.
"Master, North State is very chaotic and there is no strong power. Why don’t we become bandits and steal from them?"
"I think it’s feasible. The Lin family is already desperate. It’s a good idea to turn this place into the permanent base for the Lin family."
"However, the elderly, weak, and women of the Lin family cannot move here. The environment here is very poor, their cultivation is not enough, and they will have a short lifespan."
"They don’t have enough talent, and their cultivation speed is very slow. Half of their spiritual power is used to withstand the cold."
The group spoke again, except for Lin Batian who remained silent. Then he let Lin Die speak.
"I don’t know, don’t ask me."
Lin Die continued to slack off. When Lin Batian asked her to do something, she would do it, but she no longer took the initiative to take on those responsibilities.
"Hey, enough already, little brother."
"I don’t understand what Dad is saying."
"You..."
Lin Batian was extremely angry, both of his daughters rebelled. One ran away from home and he has no idea where she is now. The other is intentionally frustrating him.
Lin Die remained composed and unresponsive, paying no attention to Lin Batian’s anger and tantrums. The silent treatment made Lin Batian helpless.
"Lin Wu, what do you have to say?"
"Master, I..."
"If you dare say you don’t know, don’t bother asking, I will break your legs right now and throw you out."
Lin Jiang took a deep breath, why on earth, why is it my fault when you can’t handle your own daughter?
"Speak."
"Okay, does the head of the family want to make a quick profit and leave, or manage for a long time?"
"Of course, it’s to manage for a long time. You also know the current situation of the Lin family, we must find a source of wealth for them."
"Then let’s defeat the other bandits and become a thief king."
"Please explain further."
"We will treat North State as our own territory and manage it. We will be bandits, but not ordinary ones. We will first defeat and recruit other bandits, so that only our family remains as the bandits of North State. Then we will dominate the trade routes, and money will naturally come pouring in."
"This request is not easy. The strength of the bandits in North State is very strong, especially because there are many powerful and dangerous creatures hidden here. Besides, the influence of You State surely has a huge interest here. If we do this, You State will not allow it."
"It’s okay, if there are powerful creatures, we can win them over. If we offer enough money, I believe no one will refuse. As for the businesses of You State, we don’t want to cut off their wealth, but cooperate with them. We will engage in buying and selling, but we want to make a profit. As long as we are strong enough, everything will go smoothly."
Lin Jiang said. Having the capability to monopolize the trade routes makes us eligible for this. Without that capability, it’s all just empty talk.
"You have three days to give me a detailed report."
"Yes"
Lin Jiang answered, saying that the plan is easy to come up with, but it depends on whether you can do it. If you can’t do it, then it’s his fault.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye, and the people sent out by Lin Batian also gradually returned. They brought back more detailed information, such as the incredibly large number of thieves in North State.
"In the North State cultivation world, there is almost no order. Everyone can be considered a thief. For example, in our village, we are currently strong while they are humble and respectful. If we were not stronger than them, they would turn into wolves and devour us. The same goes for other villages. They can be poor, lowly, or even thieves."
"In the North State, cultivators and Human Demons each have their own territories. Cultivators have no legitimate power and are all ruthless. Here, it’s either you kill others or others kill you."
"There is a deep conflict between cultivators and Human Demons. Some Human Demons have obvious characteristics of monsters, such as claws, which are considered valuable materials by cultivators. That’s why many cultivators hunt and profit from the Human Demon Clan. Similarly, Human Demons also consume cultivators to grow stronger..."
The power of trading companies is terrifying here. These companies have the influence of the You State or some forces in the northern part of Central Province. They use some inferior resources to trade for special products of the North State and make huge profits.
Some ambitious cultivators wanted to unify the North State, but they all failed. It was the hands of those trading companies that stopped them. The major thieves in the North State are also supported by these companies, but at the same time, they also limit the power of the thieves..."
The disciples from the Lin family who came with Lin Batian are all very skilled. After a few days of investigation, they have gathered enough information about the situation in North State. They are extremely capable.
"You have done well, Lin Wu. Now it’s your turn to speak. Let’s all listen to Lin Wu."
Yes, master. My plan is like this: the young members of the Lin family will disguise themselves as robbers. We will defeat all the other robbers in North State, take them under our control, and block the trade routes in the entire North State. We will have a monopoly over them.
We don’t need to spend time and energy managing North State. We won’t bother with the villages, cultivators, or Human Demons. However, all trade must be done by us. We will go to the indigenous people and collect goods, then sell them to merchants. We can also build a city as a hub for merchants. Either way...
Lin Jiang also spoke confidently and shared his plan. In reality, it wasn’t anything new. The Arabs in Blue Star’s history had done the same, and there are many similar examples in the cultivation world.
In plain words, the Lin family will use their own power to gain benefits in North State.
"Master, with this plan, we will have to fight everyone: the indigenous people, the robbers, and the merchants. If we don’t defeat them, they won’t listen to us."
"In a place like North State, if you don’t show your strength and defeat them, nothing is possible. Since we have to fight anyway, we might as well defeat them all at once. Of course, this matter is not urgent. We can plan and lay out the strategy for ten or twenty years."
"I really like Lin Wu’s plan. We don’t need to handle the merchandise ourselves; it requires too many people and hard work. We can earn protection fees instead. Let’s follow the model of a cultivation city. Tomorrow, continue your investigation and find a suitable place to build a city. Let’s conquer a territory first."
Lin Batian had decided to settle down. The environment in North State was too harsh, and all the members of the Lin family couldn’t move here. Without enough reliable manpower, they couldn’t accomplish anything significant.
So he could only operate according to the model of a cultivation city, and it would be a rough one. But it didn’t matter because he was here to make money.
While Lin Batian had people prepare, he also gathered manpower. It was simply wishful thinking to control the entire North State with such a small group of people, but he still had many useful individuals under his command, such as the remnants of the four major sects. They should contribute as well.
