Medicine City, the grand residence of the Wang family
The Wang family used to be a prominent clan within the Five Elements Sect. It was because they once had a Nascent Soul cultivator who protected the family for hundreds of years, making the Wang family very prosperous.
At its peak, the Wang family had one person at the Nascent Soul level and seven people at the golden core level. But that was all history from a thousand years ago.
As time went by, the talents of the Wang family continued to wither. Now, the Wang family doesn't have a single person at the golden core level. The highest cultivation level is only at the Building Foundation stage, and they are old with not much lifespan remaining. Most of the descendants of the Wang family are also not successful.
At this time, Wang Xingyun came to the main residence to pay a visit to his father, the patriarch of the Wang family.
"Father, here are this year's account books. We are still running a deficit and the losses are huge. We need to find a solution."
Wang Xingyun held a ledger and showed it to his grandfather, the ancestor of the Wang family. The ancestor of the Wang family had left behind abundant inheritance, with dozens of houses in Medicine City, hundreds of shops, and three spiritual mountains outside the city.
However, as generations went by, most of these properties were lost. The majority of the expenses were their daily expenditure. Cultivating as a cultivator requires a huge amount of resources, but investing in resources doesn't guarantee returns. It is possible to invest a massive amount of resources into a descendant, elevating their cultivation to the Building Foundation Period, but if they don't bring benefits to the family, they would just be gone.
It is even more likely that resources were invested without any improvement in cultivation, which is just a waste.
Another expense is division. During the peak of the Wang family, there were thousands of members, spreading branches and leaves. However, if the family fails to produce someone who can unite various forces, it will lead to the division of the family.
That's exactly what happened to the Wang family. The main lineage of the Wang family failed to produce someone at the golden core level, and the other branches have cultivators at the Building Foundation stage. Naturally, they are dissatisfied with the family's resources being focused on the main lineage and strongly demand a division. As generations passed, the Wang family has greatly declined. Apart from this grand mansion, they have sold off all other houses, shops, and the spiritual mountains.
On weekdays, they rely on their family members to make some special medicines, magical objects, items, and formations. They do some small business, but all the income goes to individuals, not the family. The family has no property and cannot gather people's hearts.
"How much is still missing?"
"This year, seven children were found to have Spiritual Roots, and another eight people have reached the perfect stage of Qi Refining. And also..."
"A shortfall of twenty thousand spirit stones, is it that much?"
"Sigh, interpersonal relationships are a big part of it. We also have to provide them with Building Foundation Pills. It's so difficult, father. Is there anything in the family that can be sold?"
"Get lost! Stop having ideas about the family. Do you think I don't know what you're thinking? The treasury is already empty!"
"If you don't want to contribute, then go! It's not like I'm asking for money, it's the family that needs money. Let your elder son take care of the household from now on, I won't bother anymore."
Wang Xingyun was also angry. He was just the second son in the family, and he still had an older brother above him. Why should his older brother be allowed to disregard everything as long as he cultivates, even though he hasn't achieved anything yet? Wang Xingyun had to spend time and effort to make something.
Wang Xingyun threw down the account book, left angrily, and returned home. His wife started complaining to him again, about today's argument with her sister-in-law, only talking about trivial matters. Even the children at home were crying non-stop. Wang Xingyun had nowhere to vent his anger, so after giving his son a beating, he left the house.
Wang Xingwen wanted to drown his sorrows with alcohol, but when he thought about the spirit stone in his storage bag, he couldn't bear to go to the tavern, so he settled for a random stall.
"Ugh, is this really spiritual wine? It tastes like dishwater."
Wang Xingyun took a sip of the cheap spiritual wine from the stall and immediately spat it out. When he was younger, the Wang family still had some influence, and they enjoyed a few good years. He couldn't stomach this low-quality spiritual wine at all.
"Isn't this Junior Brother Wang? Why are you drinking here?"
Wang Xingyun was about to get angry when suddenly a voice sounded. He looked up and saw Yue Lin standing in front of him.
"Senior Brother Yue, what are you doing here?"
"I was about to go to the Palace Banquet to listen to music. What about you?"
"Me, I... "
Wang Xingyun couldn't say a word. Both of them were at the Building Foundation Period, but one could attend the Palace Banquet every few days to listen to music, while the other had to work hard for his family and couldn't afford even a sip of good spiritual wine. He was suddenly filled with resentment.
"Junior Brother Wang, let's go together to the Palace Banquet. The drinks here are not meant for people."
"Senior Brother, I am short on money."
"With Senior Brother here, how can I let you pay? Senior Brother, please."
"This doesn't seem quite right."
"What's wrong? We've known each other for a long time, the Wang family and I. Let's go, let's go."
Yue Lin was very enthusiastic and kept talking. Wang Xingyun resisted for a moment and then complied. He had been to the Palace Banquet once, but he still couldn't forget it after several years.
Yue Lin told Wang Xingyun interesting stories about the Palace Banquet along the way. They quickly arrived at the entrance of the Palace Banquet, where a beautiful woman greeted them, offering warm towels to clean their faces and hands, wiping away the dust from their journey.
Wang Xingyun couldn't help himself when the fragrance hit him. He had been hungry and thirsty for too long.
Yue Lin led Wang Xingyun to a private room, and soon four women came in, one on each side, cuddling up to them and quietly introducing the various offerings at the Palace Banquet.
Wang Xingyun felt uncomfortable. The women next to him, compared to the ones at the Sweet Red Building, were just average here. He worried if his storage bag could handle it.
Yue Lin was quite familiar with this place. He ordered some popular offerings, and soon a singer came in and performed. Her beauty and figure surpassed the women around them.
"Junior Brother Wang, come on, cover your eyes quickly. The next offering is called 'Eagle Catches Chick'."
"Ah"
"If you don't come, I'll come"
Yue Lin didn't care about all that, he covered his eyes and stretched out his hands to catch the group of women who giggled and dodged away. Wang Xingyun watched in amazement as Yue Lin seemed like an eagle catching a chick. He couldn't believe this kind of game existed.
I've never seen it before. He only came once to watch the performance in the hall.
"They're really good at playing!"
Wang Xingyun shouted in his mind.
"Haha, Junior Brother Wang, sorry for interrupting. You can continue playing."
At this moment, Yue Lin had already caught a little chick and was about to leave the private room and go upstairs.
"Can I do it too?"
"Yes, you can, Fairy Elder."
"Then I'll join too."
Evil flames surged up from the depths of Wang Xingyun's heart. Ignoring everything else, he immediately also transformed into a big eagle and swooped down towards the chicks.
Yue Lin made his way upstairs and reached a room where a man was waiting. He asked the woman in his arms to go into the room first.
"Senior Brother"
"Is everything arranged?"
"Yes, everything is arranged. The eldest son of the Wang family will be in the room next to Wang Xingyun's. There will be a great show tonight."
"I've made arrangements for the follow-up. Within six months, I want to get what I want."
"Does Senior Brother really want to bet on Zhang Wanjing?"
"Bet? Among those high-ranking people, only Zhang Wanjing still has a conscience. The rest have lost their conscience to dogs."
Yue Lin said grimly, it's not that he insists on betting on Zhang Wanjing, but that the others are unreliable. They took the benefits and beautiful women, but they didn't fulfill the promises they made to him. He can only bet on Zhang Wanjing now.
"Yes, Senior Brother, within six months, the Wang family will definitely perish."
"Go, just don't mess up."
Yue Lin waved his hand. Tonight is just an appetizer, the real show is coming. It includes teasing Old Father to death, fighting for family property, and many other exciting scenes, none of them will be missed.
Wilderness, outside the Five Elements Sect's base.
The scene of a sibling fight is happening. Small Shadiao was pounced on by Big Shadiao from the sky to the ground, causing a crazy friction. Small Shadiao kept screaming for mercy.
"Big Shadiao, don't let it go. Beat it up for me."
"You've been asleep for these past few years, while Small Shadiao has gone crazy. It said it wants to be the big brother now, and you have to be the little sister, with it pressing you down and causing friction."
"And also, it ate up all the delicious food I saved for you. It didn't leave a single thing."
"It even said..."
"It also..."
"And also..."
Every time Big Shadiao wants to be kind-hearted, there is always a voice telling him something. After it speaks, Big Shadiao becomes even more ruthless.
"Haha, good job! Good job! Let me teach you a lesson for looking down on me and stealing my special drink. You deserve it."
Lin Jiang watched as Small Shadiao got beaten up and was so happy that he wanted to jump up. Big Shadiao hadn't reached the fourth level yet, but he was at the peak of the third level, and his strength was much stronger than Small Shadiao's. He had just awakened a few days ago.
"Dog, dog..."
Small Shadiao was getting really angry after being beaten up. After breaking free, he cursed at Lin Jiang. I'm not human, but you're a real dog!
"You dare to insult me? I'll keep beating you up!"
Lin Jiang became furious, and Small Shadiao realized something was wrong and immediately flew away. But now, it couldn't escape from Big Shadiao. It was captured back after just a few moments.
"Brother, brother..."
"Big Shadiao is better after all. Let's forget about today's incident. We'll have it catch a third-level monster as punishment."
Lin Jiang said. We can't let him buy all the third-level Demon Cores. The child is getting older and should learn how to get them himself.
"Brother, brother..."
Big Shadiao kicked Small Shadiao, and Small Shadiao flew away angrily, leaving Big Shadiao waiting for Lin Jiang to cook fish for it.
