"Once you’ve made a decision, you must never regret it."
"And I can tell you a definitive rule: whether it’s the celebrity idols you admire or the great heroes we hear stories about."
"They are all ordinary people. Every one of their successes, every one of their great achievements, has a reason behind it that you can trace."
Lin Feng could, of course, see that Lin Xiaoman was getting cold feet.
Especially after his impassioned speech, she was bound to feel a huge sense of resistance toward her future role.
After all, when faced with immense pressure, anyone’s first instinct is to retreat.
"We’re all ordinary people. That includes your brother. I’m just an ordinary person, too."
"None of us are born into this world as anything special."
"The reason people accomplish so many great things is that they approach every single task with a calm, ordinary mindset. When it’s time to eat, they just eat. When it’s time to sleep, they just sleep. When it’s time to work, they just work."
Simple, unadorned words were often far more moving than flowery rhetoric, and Lin Xiaoman was truly struck by that last sentence.
’That’s right. What reason do we have to set such high expectations for ourselves every day, invisibly piling on so much pressure that we can’t face our lives and society with a normal mindset?’
When it’s time to eat, just eat. When it’s time to sleep, just sleep. When it’s time to work, just work.
’If we can do these small things with a calm mind, plan them out seriously, and properly review our progress, is there anything we can’t accomplish?’
"Xiaoman, you have to remember this."
"Too many people overestimate what they can do in a day, and far too many underestimate what they can achieve in a year, or even ten years!"
Lin Feng earnestly poured out all the insights he had gained over the years, along with the lessons he’d learned from other titans of industry, sharing them all with Lin Xiaoman.
In truth, Lin Feng wasn’t the preachy, nagging type.
You could see it in his management style: he favored flat hierarchies and as few meetings as possible. If something could be resolved in two minutes, he would never let it be padded out with corporate jargon and stretched into a two-hour ordeal.
But today, faced with his own beloved sister, Lin Feng truly wanted to pour out everything he had learned, all the heartfelt advice from the bottom of his heart, for Lin Xiaoman.
He hoped his sister wouldn’t have to take the same long, hard road he had.
Even more, he hoped his sister wouldn’t let fear make her clumsy and cause her to suffer for it.
It’s often said that for a twenty-year-old woman, learning from hardship is a blessing. Especially in one’s career, the more you’re knocked down and pushed, the more you experience and temper yourself. In time, the world will smooth out your rough edges, but the fire in your heart will only burn hotter.
However, how could Lin Feng stand by and watch his own sister suffer needlessly and be mistreated out in the world?
"So, the second thing I want to tell you is that you must persevere."
"I know that when you first chose to become a streamer, it was probably eighty percent due to a chance encounter and your own interest. Even though you just painted a grand picture full of righteous indignation, a sense of mission, and responsibility that made you seem incredibly noble and radiant."
"But you must understand that curiosity and interest will slowly fade over time."
"It’s impossible for a person to stay passionate about one thing for their entire life, especially something you do every day. Unless you have a good method, a way to continuously learn and explore new things within your career."
"So, since you’ve already decided to stick with the streaming industry, and even want to build your own alliance to protect the rights of more streamers, I hope you’ll make a promise to yourself and to all those other streamers. And that is to persevere. No matter what difficulties you face, you absolutely must persevere."
Lin Feng’s words were a bit extreme.
After all, sometimes the phrase "stubbornly refusing to give up until you hit a wall" is used to mock someone’s foolishness.
But at this stage, Lin Feng couldn’t give her a vague answer. Lin Xiaoman didn’t yet have the ability to make such judgments on her own.
Furthermore, as a young woman just starting out, Lin Xiaoman’s worldview was still very black and white.
Faced with this dazzling, complicated world—with the people and things she liked, and the people and things she hated—she wouldn’t deal with them with a polished, tactful attitude.
It was just like when he had first gotten the System—he had become arrogant and incredibly cocky.
He did everything according to his own whims. His likes and dislikes were written all over his face.
The consequence of this was that it felt incredibly satisfying. He could live by his own rules, loving fiercely and hating openly. He would cherish the people he liked and ignore those he disliked, even turning on them directly and offering them no face whatsoever.
But humans are shallow by nature.
We always form a conclusion about someone within the first ten minutes of meeting them.
Then we immediately decide whether we like them or not, whether we want to see them again, whether we want to be their friend.
But in just ten minutes, forget about a conversation, we can’t even grasp their personality. On what basis do you have the right to disrupt another person’s peace of mind with your coldness or extreme enthusiasm, based on your own preferences?
This was precisely why Lin Feng now had so many rivals and had offended so many people. His cynical, dismissive attitude and the way he treated people differently had been deeply infuriating, and he had publicly embarrassed many people, leaving them with no way to save face.
Although being tactful, worldly-wise, and silently enduring things felt like a humiliation to most people—especially to ambitious and successful young people like Lin Feng and Lin Xiaoman—most of the time, they simply couldn’t stomach the frustration.
But Lin Feng now also understood that becoming tactful and worldly-wise was a form of self-protection for them as well.
After all, when you face a major crisis in your life, you won’t have a crowd of people lining up to kick you while you’re down.
"So, the last thing I want to tell you is this: when you face people you dislike, you should still treat them with sincerity. At the very least, don’t wear all your emotions on your face. In fact, for people you truly detest, you should try to write down three of their good qualities."
"By the same token, for the friends you adore and spend every day with, you must always be on your guard. After all, a person’s heart is impossible to fathom. And I still suggest you write down three flaws of the person you like the most."
"So, when you can grasp the strengths and weaknesses of all your subordinates and friends, and you can make their strengths useful and their weaknesses manageable, then these people will work for you. They will become your resources. On your path forward, they can help you overcome all obstacles and achieve your ultimate dream."
Lin Feng’s inspirational speech had gotten even his own blood pumping.
And his words not only made Lin Xiaoman’s eyes sparkle with light, but even Su Ruoxi, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but feel a thrill of excitement.
It had to be said, even if Lin Feng no longer had his System,
If he became a public speaker or a motivational coach, he would still be a giant in the industry.
