Hearing what Old Luo said,
the students who had been itching to become class officers
instantly felt as though a bucket of cold water had been poured over them.
Of course, there were still those who genuinely wanted to serve the class.
Like Song Yaqi,
and the students who had helped pass out the textbooks at the beginning.
Hearing this, Song Yaqi was the first to walk up to the front and introduce herself to the class.
"Hello, everyone. My name is Song Yaqi."
"Some of you might already know me from when I was helping pass out textbooks earlier."
"I’ve come up here to run for the position of Youth League Secretary."
"I held this same position back in high school, so I have plenty of experience. I hope you’ll all vote for me. Thank you!"
Song Yaqi’s tone was sincere, and her expression was earnest.
She appeared poised and confident, unlike the others who were still somewhat reserved.
She was also very clever. She knew that Old Luo would never let a girl be the class monitor,
so she settled for the next best thing and chose to run for Youth League Secretary.
If she could do a good job as the Youth League Secretary and build a good relationship with the faculty advisor,
she might very well be offered a position at the university after graduation.
So, she had a plan from the start, with a very clear goal in mind.
For some reason,
Lin Feng felt that Jiang Chao’s chances with Song Yaqi weren’t very high.
’With a personality like hers, her standards for a partner are bound to be high.’
However, when he saw Jiang Chao staring at Song Yaqi with stars in his eyes,
Lin Feng didn’t say anything.
’Since Jiang Chao likes her, I should help him out as his roommate.’
’As for whether they’ll get together in the end, that’s up to fate.’
After Song Yaqi finished speaking,
a male student immediately went up to run for class monitor.
The students who had initially helped Old Luo carry the books also went up to the podium one by one to run for class officer positions.
There were a total of seven class officer positions.
And it just so happened that seven students went up to run.
However, two of the more obscure positions had no candidates.
Those were the Health Committee Member and the Psychology Committee Member.
These two positions were in an awkward spot. They were class officer roles, technically speaking.
But if you were to ask what they were actually for,
even Old Luo, the homeroom teacher, couldn’t give a clear answer.
But school regulations stated that these two officer positions had to be filled.
"Are there any other students who want to run for a class officer position?"
"We still have two roles with no candidates."
Old Luo scanned the classroom as he asked.
But after looking around, no one responded at all, so he had no choice but to drop it.
"Alright, let’s start counting the votes!"
"We’ll start with the class monitor. When I call a candidate’s name, just raise your hand to vote."
"Um, Song Yaqi, could you come up here and help me tally them?"
Song Yaqi was the only person running for Youth League Secretary.
So the position was basically hers. Besides, no one had the heart to compete with a girl for it.
However, there were three candidates for class monitor.
Song Yaqi walked up to the podium, picked up a piece of chalk, and wrote the seven candidates’ names on the blackboard.
Then, she began calling out the names for the vote count.
The process was a bit tedious and took a little over ten minutes.
Finally...
The results of the class officer election were in.
The role of class monitor was snatched up by a Yang City local named Zou Yong.
The Youth League Secretary was Song Yaqi.
The other three class officer positions were also filled by their respective candidates.
But the Health Committee Member and Psychology Committee Member roles remained empty, with no one stepping up to run for them for a long time.
"I’ll ask one last time."
"Does anyone want to run for these two officer positions?"
Left with no choice, Old Luo looked out at the classroom again and posed the question one more time.
Seeing no response,
he was about to just have the class monitor and Youth League Secretary take on these roles concurrently.
After all, there wasn’t much to do in those positions anyway.
"Alright, in that case..."
Just as he was about to announce that the class monitor and Youth League Secretary would hold these positions concurrently,
someone in the classroom suddenly raised their hand.
"You there, do you want to run?"
"Which position are you interested in?"
Old Luo’s eyes lit up as he asked eagerly.
Instantly, all the students in the classroom turned to look.
They saw Yang Qiniang stand up in an incredibly showy manner, flicking his hair back with a faint smile on his face.
"Teacher, my name is Yang Qiniang, and I want both positions!"
Yang Qiniang declared loudly.
"Both positions? You want them both?"
Old Luo frowned, his expression turning a little sour.
Although these were both non-essential roles, in all his years as a homeroom teacher, he’d never seen anyone try to run for two positions at once.
If possible, he still hoped another person would step up to take one of them.
Yang Qiniang seemed to read his mind and quickly changed his tune. "Teacher, if that’s a problem,"
"I can give the Health Committee Member position to my roommate, Lin Feng!"
Hearing this, Lin Feng froze.
’When did I ever say I wanted to be a class officer?’
However, seeing Yang Qiniang shoot him a look, Lin Feng held his tongue.
"Oh?"
Old Luo turned his gaze to Lin Feng and asked, "Lin Feng, do you think you’re up to the task?"
"I... guess I can do it!"
Seeing Yang Qiniang frantically signaling him with his eyes,
Lin Feng finally bit the bullet and agreed.
"Alright, in that case,"
"Lin Feng will be the Health Committee Member, and Yang Qiniang will be the Psychology Committee Member!"
"If there’s nothing else, this class meeting is dismissed!"
With that, as if afraid Lin Feng and Yang Qiniang would change their minds, Old Luo left the classroom without a single glance back.
"Young Master Yang, why the sudden interest in being a class officer?" Lin Feng couldn’t help but ask after the homeroom teacher left.
"I don’t think those two positions even give you extra academic credits."
"And they don’t come with any real power."
Cao Ming and Jiang Chao also looked on curiously.
"I’ll tell you guys,"
"but you absolutely cannot tell anyone else."
Yang Qiniang leaned in and whispered, "My dad knows the vice-principal of our university. I’m supposed to call him Uncle Wang."
"That same Uncle Wang sent me a message yesterday. He said the school has decided to reform the class officer system. Starting next month, all class officers will be treated equally."
"So, those two unpopular positions that didn’t give credits before?"
"Starting next month, they’ll get the same perks as the class monitor. How sweet is that?"
Yang Qiniang said with a smug grin.
Hearing this, it all clicked for Lin Feng.
’No wonder the usually carefree Yang Qiniang, who finds everything a hassle,’
’was acting like a completely different person today, actively running for a class officer role.’
’So he got some inside information!’
In university, there was something even more important than grades: academic credits.
Everything from regular assessments and scholarship selections to various honors and awards was inextricably linked to them.
This was something that even money couldn’t buy.
"Nice one, Young Master Yang!"
After hearing Yang Qiniang’s explanation, Lin Feng was also getting a little excited.
’I can’t believe...’
’I’d stumble into such a good deal.’
’It’s a freebie, and it’d be a waste not to take it. Who would complain about having too many credits, right?’
Meanwhile, Cao Ming and Jiang Chao could only look on with envy.
"Old Jiang, Old Cao."
"Don’t you two blame me for not including you."
"After all, there were only two spots, and I still want to get a big meal out of Old Lin!"
After saying this, Yang Qiniang turned to Lin Feng with a wide grin.
"Fine. Lunch today is on me."
"You guys pick the place!"
Lin Feng agreed readily before Yang Qiniang could even say anything.
Ever since Lin Feng had bought a Patek Philippe watch and ten thousand yuan worth of skincare products,
everyone in the dorm had tacitly acknowledged him as the wealthiest among them.
Especially Yang Qiniang.
He had been dying for a chance to make Lin Feng treat him to a lavish meal.
Of course, given his own family’s wealth, it wasn’t like he hadn’t had his share of extravagant feasts.
But when you were with your bros, wasn’t it all about the vibe?
