Some people silently took in Lin Xiaoman’s striking looks.
Others, after a moment, started frantically spamming question marks in the chat.
"I can’t believe it. Even in this day and age, there are still hidden rules!"
"Hidden rules have always existed, no matter the era. I wonder if the streamer is talking about the kind I’m thinking of..."
Lin Xiaoman paid no mind to what was being spammed in the chat.
Instead, she continued with her planned explanation:
"As I’m sure you all know, the platform takes a cut of any gifts you send me."
"I’ll be completely transparent with you all. Because I have a decent number of followers now, I signed an 80-20 contract with the platform."
"In theory, that means I should receive eighty percent of the revenue this month."
"That’s right. The ’hidden rules’ I’m talking about aren’t what you’re probably thinking. It’s not like we streamers are regular employees at their company."
"The hidden rules in this industry are also financial."
After hearing Lin Xiaoman’s explanation, everyone finally understood.
In fact, the viewers were well aware that the platform took a large portion of the money from gifts sent to streamers.
That was perfectly normal.
But no matter how normal it was, once it was associated with the words "hidden rules," people’s imaginations would inevitably run wild.
Lin Xiaoman continued, "If they had actually honored the contract we signed, I wouldn’t be this angry."
"However, the amount I actually received wasn’t eighty percent. Sometimes, it was even less than sixty percent."
"At first, the platform’s explanation was that they needed to deduct some fees."
"And I believed them."
As she said this, a look of grievance appeared on her face.
She even thought to herself, ’I was so naive back then.’
What she felt in her heart showed on her face.
She didn’t realize, however, that this expression made the viewers, who had been watching casually, suddenly sit up and pay attention.
Lin Xiaoman’s long-time fans knew that she was a very optimistic and cheerful, somewhat carefree girl.
Coupled with the fact that Lin Xiaoman was very beautiful...
...the audience’s hearts unconsciously sided with her.
"I’m all too familiar with this ’say one thing and do another’ routine. Come to think of it, my own job is like that sometimes."
"They promise you a certain salary, but then they always find all sorts of reasons to dock your pay!"
"These are all just excuses the capitalists use! They don’t want to pay you, but they still want you to do all the work!"
"This hits too close to home. These capitalists are like vampires, always squeezing every last drop of value out of us!"
"Aren’t we all just sheep for the capitalists to fleece?"
"I feel that. It’s the same for all of us!"
"We run into this kind of thing in our daily lives all the time, we just don’t always realize it."
"What fucking good does it do to realize it? You still have to obediently work for them, too afraid to fight back!"
Lin Xiaoman hadn’t expected this. She had only planned to explain the platform’s "hidden rules," but she ended up striking a chord with her audience.
In reality, people were starting to see things more and more clearly.
All the so-called "standards" for docking pay were just a way to keep them from earning too much.
Furthermore, almost everyone had encountered such situations, to some extent, in their own lives.
So what Lin Xiaoman was describing was nothing new to them.
Perhaps because Lin Xiaoman was the one to speak up first, it gave some of her fans courage.
They all started chiming in, discussing the matter animatedly.
Lin Xiaoman was genuinely surprised to see such a heated discussion erupting in her chat.
She had been fully prepared to do battle with the trolls who usually frequented her chat.
But she never expected that this time, the trolls wouldn’t dare show their faces.
The mood in the chat was just too overwhelmingly emotional.
And while Lin Xiaoman hadn’t anticipated this, she knew it was a rare opportunity.
As the chat buzzed with discussion, Lin Xiaoman spoke up:
"It’s because I discovered this, and on top of that, I found out that some streamers who came before me have also suffered this same unfair treatment."
"And the most disgusting part is that the platform’s management only targets streamers with over a million followers for these deductions."
"In their eyes, streamers with fewer than a million followers are still being ’nurtured.’ In other words, they don’t think they’re ripe enough to have their blood sucked yet!"
"For streamers like us, most of our fans found us through this platform."
"So the platform’s management thinks that even if they skim a little off our earnings, we won’t dare to fight back!"
At this point, Lin Xiaoman’s voice rose with indignation.
The stream of chat messages gradually slowed.
But the viewer count in the stream, far from decreasing, was actually climbing.
Everyone was listening intently to Lin Xiaoman.
"Either we erupt in this silence, or we will be exploited in this silence until there’s nothing left!"
It was hard to imagine that such a sweet and lovely girl could speak with such powerful conviction!
The entire stream went silent.
Lin Xiaoman didn’t say anything more. She was waiting.
For a single spark to become a raging inferno, it doesn’t just need wind. More importantly, it needs a constant supply of fuel.
"We can’t let this platform get away with bullying a girl like this!"
At last, after a long silence, a single message appeared in the chat!
And that single sentence was like a spark, or rather, a fuse connected to a barrel of gasoline. It instantly ignited the fury that had long been festering in everyone’s hearts—fury against the barbaric, blood-sucking corporations and the power-drunk capitalists who exploited people at will!
"Protect the streamer! Get her the justice she deserves!"
"We’re the users of this platform! That basically makes us their customers! The customer is king!"
"Let’s all file complaints together! I refuse to believe Douhu will still dare to be so arrogant then!"
"I’m a lawyer. This company’s failure to honor its contract constitutes fraud. If you need it, I can provide you with legal assistance!"
"To the lawyer who just posted: say no more. I’ll put up the money, you put in the work. Let’s do this!"
"..."
’This is exactly the effect I wanted!’
’The power of the people is the greatest power of all!’
Lin Feng’s judgment had been correct.
Lin Xiaoman had achieved her goal. In fact, the result had far exceeded her expectations!
Right now, the number of viewers in Lin Xiaoman’s stream had already surpassed one million.
This was an unprecedented milestone for her channel, and it was also the goal Lin Xiaoman had aimed for: the more people who watched this stream, the greater the impact!
But Lin Xiaoman was still waiting—waiting for the cue Lin Feng had told her about.
