「Half an hour later.」
Lin Feng gently opened the door and tiptoed into the room.
It was already two in the morning.
Lin Feng knew that Su Ruoxi kept a very regular schedule. Going to bed before 11 PM was an unbreakable rule for her; it had practically become one of her core principles.
CLICK!
Lin Feng switched on the table lamp beside the sofa.
A yellow glow carved out a warm space in the darkness.
Su Ruoxi’s gentle, sleeping face came into view.
"You’re... back."
"Are you hungry? I can make you some noodles."
Startled awake by the sudden light, Su Ruoxi opened her eyes to see the man she loved.
But the words that tumbled out of her mouth the very next second warmed his heart deeply.
"It’s okay. I’m not hungry."
"Why didn’t you sleep in bed? It’s so uncomfortable out here. Besides, a sofa this soft is bad for your back."
"I knew you must be busy with something, since you were back so late."
"I also figured you were probably in a bad mood today, so I wanted to wait for you to get back. We could talk, and you wouldn’t have to sleep on those bad feelings."
Su Ruoxi’s soft, drowsy voice was utterly adorable, but it also revealed her deep care and affection for Lin Feng.
’She knew her boyfriend had a major falling out with his own sister today.’
’Even though they both had good intentions, and were probably just trying to do what was best for the other person.’
’But for a brother and sister who had never so much as raised their voices at each other to suddenly end up like this...’
’It was impossible for him not to feel upset and frustrated.’
’Sometimes, you’re touched in an instant, all because of one small thing.’
"It’s fine. I was just too hot-headed at the time."
"And Lin Xiaoman really is too immature. I can see that now."
"I’ll have her come over tomorrow, and we’ll talk it out properly. It’ll be fine."
"Besides, I thought about it more afterward. Maybe spinning off the Streamer Alliance isn’t such a bad idea after all."
Lin Feng’s voice was soft and gentle, his doting expression plain to see.
"So you *do* know you have a bad temper. Lin Xiaoman is young and naive. It’s one thing for her to do childish things since she’s new to the professional world, but you wouldn’t even cut her some slack. You just had to keep criticizing her."
Su Ruoxi gave Lin Feng a huge eye-roll.
"I really was just too angry at the time. She just burst in all excited, asking for a ton of money. And more importantly, she had no plan whatsoever. She was like a headless chicken, just running around aimlessly."
"That’s what made me so mad. No one—and I mean no one—has ever dared to report to me or make a request with such chaotic, jumbled logic."
Lin Feng felt helpless to explain.
’After all, it was a professional setting. I just hoped my sister could act like a professional—explain the situation clearly, with coherent logic and organized thoughts.’
’That’s why I was deliberately sarcastic. I mostly just wanted my sister to realize her mistake.’
"Your standards are too high. Xiaoman is still so young. How could you expect her to ’get your point’ so quickly?"
"Ugh, now you’ve got me all worked up. I’m not even tired anymore."
"Fine, I’m going to make something to eat. You can just keep me company while I have a late-night snack, okay?"
Su Ruoxi saw Lin Feng’s drawn face and weary eyes and knew at once that he hadn’t been eating properly.
She knew that while he was young, such an irregular diet would lead to stomach problems in the future.
And though she talked about feeling bad for his sister, what woman doesn’t dote on her own man?
"You should go take a bath. I’ve already run the water for you."
"The water heater has been keeping it warm. Go on, I’ll have something ready in about half an hour."
With that, Su Ruoxi gave a big, lazy stretch.
Then she picked up an apron, walked into the kitchen, tied up her loose hair, and began to bustle about, yawning as she worked.
’What more could a man ask for?’
He watched this devastatingly beautiful woman—a woman who had been pampered by her parents her whole life, treated like a princess by everyone around her, and put on a pedestal like a goddess.
And now, here she was, busying herself for him. She was clearly exhausted, yet she was fighting off sleep just to make him a late-night snack, all out of concern for his health.
Lin Feng now truly felt that having Su Ruoxi was the greatest happiness and the greatest fortune of his entire life.
Su Ruoxi had truly changed so much for Lin Feng. She was the type of girl who had never had to lift a finger in her life. She’d never set foot in a kitchen, let alone done any housework. Treated like a princess her whole life, she had never been in the habit of putting others first.
But after meeting Lin Feng, Su Ruoxi felt as if her life had entered a new phase.
She suddenly realized that while her old self had been carefree, she hadn’t been truly happy or at ease. Being constantly put on a pedestal, held high above everyone else, had only made her more spoiled and temperamental.
But what had truly changed her was her love for Lin Feng, which had filled her heart bit by bit.
This bubbly, rose-tinted love was no longer just a simple mutual affection between a man and a woman.
By now, it had grown into a deep attachment for Su Ruoxi, something that had become an indispensable part of her life.
The Su Ruoxi of today truly couldn’t imagine what would become of her if she woke up one morning to find Lin Feng gone, to discover that he had abandoned her. She was sure she would completely fall apart.
So-called aloofness is often just a sign that you don’t matter enough to someone for them to bother making themselves uncomfortable for your sake.
Lying in the bathtub, Lin Feng felt his exhaustion wash away. ’So this is what life is all about,’ he thought.
’Having someone who loves you by your side, a group of trusted friends to strive with, and a grand dream of your own to achieve.’
’Of course, life will always throw all kinds of frustrating, awful things at you, sometimes involving the very people you’re closest to. But what does that matter in the end?’
’When you face a problem, you just solve it. Dwelling on it only sours your mood and can even affect how you handle other important things.’
As this thought crossed his mind, Lin Feng, who had been exhausted and on edge all day, finally let out a long sigh of relief and felt the tension leave him.
As his mood lifted, his appetite suddenly returned.
Lin Feng suddenly realized just how hungry he was.
Having barely eaten all day, he was incredibly grateful for a woman who understood him so well.
A woman who knew how to tactfully look after both his pride and his well-being.
"Babe, I’m actually starving. Should we order some barbecue...?"
Lin Feng slowly ambled toward the living room, drying his damp hair with a towel.
He was genuinely starving.
And with his mood having taken such a sudden turn for the better, Lin Feng felt it would be a true injustice to the feelings he’d been bottling up all day if he didn’t celebrate with some skewers and a beer.
"Uh... Bro..."
But as he walked into the living room, he suddenly spotted a familiar figure sitting on the sofa.
