"The accumulation of time or other reasons, whatever it is, it’s not a good thing."
Veronia silently watched Feng Yuan and the others in action; as for herself? Although she can use the finishing move with time attribute, it’s not her innate finishing move attribute, so it’s not as handy to use.
It’s precisely because she wasn’t participating in the battle that Veronia could see the traces of different eras in those crystal creations. Clearly, this stuff has slowly accumulated over time.
"Mm-hmm, those crystal crabs have come over too."
With the crystal rose vine as her eyes, Veronia immediately detected the movement of the crystal crabs. As for those crystal ball bombs? Feng Yuan and the others were handling them, so she wasn’t worried.
"Tsk, we can only move forward for now. Wait, that thing won’t react to your vine, right?"
Feng Yuan pursed his lips and, remembering something, looked at Veronia. The latter nodded and said,
"That’s right, even now it’s the same. Those things seem to be chasing us, at least they aren’t attempting to destroy the vine."
"Then as long as we avoid those things..."
"Mm-hmm, are you still planning to wait for me to scout the path?"
Veronia glanced at Feng Yuan, instantly guessing what he was pondering. With a sly smile, Feng Yuan said,
"Otherwise? Retreat back? Wait until the path is clear before proceeding."
"Seems impossible; there are these small bombs ahead."
Sighing, Veronia spoke helplessly. While they were conversing, she had already extended the crystal tendrils further, but unfortunately, it hadn’t expanded long before hitting a crystal creation bomb.
This time, nothing needed to be said. As Veronia pointed out the location, Feng Yuan and the others immediately charged forward to eliminate that small heap of crystal creations.
"Seems like there’s no shirking this task."
Sighing, Feng Yuan remarked, face full of helplessness. With the current situation, it’s clear that using the crystal rose vine to scout the path wasn’t viable; of course, for the time being, there was no need for Veronia to retract the vine, because they couldn’t guarantee they could find the right path.
"This place feels like an underground city, but the structure is different; ordinary chimneys aren’t practical here, and then there’s that flowerbed."
Agunas surveyed his surroundings and offered his judgment. Unlike the stone path, what’s here was buildings constructed from large yellow bricks made of unknown materials.
This place had an unusually spacious space, especially the dome above, which illuminated the city buried deep in the ground with a false starry sky.
If it were an average person, they might not notice the incongruities here, but Agunas and Veronia had both participated in the design and construction of cities during the Mythical Era, so they knew well how underground cities should be designed.
It’s not that the construction was strictly regimented; rather, such methods could effectively prevent the waste of resources, space, and the creation of useless things.
But this city of yellow bricks concealed numerous useless designs, and even Agunas and the others couldn’t comprehend the purpose of the colorful little windmills stuck into the doorways.
The underground space wasn’t devoid of wind; however, this was related to the air exchange design, and at least for now, Agunas hadn’t seen any ventilation facilities here.
"Uh, a flowerbed designed entirely according to ground planting? That’s ridiculous."
Examining those beautiful yet plant-less flowerbeds, Feng Yuan commented in exasperation. Underground structures weren’t without flowerbeds or gardens, which were abundant.
Due to the unique circumstances of underground plants, the flowerbeds differed from those on the surface. While mushrooms and various mosses were common, there were also trees.
However, most of those plants possessed the ability to resemble a solitary forest, or, to gain enough nutrients for growth, underground tree-type plants would extend roots and sprout offspring from those roots after a certain distance.
Offspring connected to roots weren’t for aesthetic purposes; they absorbed essential nutrients for growth from the air, thus, underground plants—especially trees and shrubs—had flowerbeds larger than those on the surface.
As for flower pots? They were used for mushrooms; besides particular flowers, many flowering plants growing in underground caverns are also singular and extensive clusters that don’t fit in pots.
Flowerbeds can accommodate them, but there must be sufficient space; these small flowerbeds can’t hold underground plants.
Judging by the look of this thing now, it’s likely they didn’t consider serious underground plants.
"It really is; it seems fine at first glance, but once examined, it’s problematic. I wonder what the builders were thinking."
Feng Yuan shook his head in resignation, finding it unexplainable why that unknown entity would establish such a mismatched underground city.
"Mm-hmm, there’s another small bomb over there."
Veronia didn’t cease spreading the vine because the passages here were intricate. The exhaustive method was cumbersome but effective, at least unless the final destination lacked a route; otherwise, Veronia would certainly find the path swiftly.
Upon hearing this from Veronia, Feng Yuan and the others immediately rushed forward to deal with the self-destructing crystal structure impeding the crystal tendrils’ progression. Due to this, Feng Yuan frequently complained; there was no choice, this thing was so troublesome.
If not handled, the crystal tendrils couldn’t extend further, and continuous self-destruction could potentially cause a collapse; handling it...
The tendrils spread in all directions, so processing required relentless rushing, which wasn’t very enjoyable.
"Are we there yet?"
After once more eliminating the self-destructing creatures, Feng Yuan weakly asked Veronia. She huffed lightly and said,
"Not yet. To avoid being unable to manage in time, I can’t fully spread the tendrils, and... I have a vague feeling there’s no path to the endpoint."
Though merely intuition, Veronia inexplicably felt it might indeed be true.
"No endpoint? No, to be precise, is it impossible to reach our intended location? If that’s the case..."
Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas, feeling a bit troubled. Those bothersome bomb monsters weren’t the issue; what concerned him was whether digging through might trigger something bizarre?
After all, that thing had locked down digging-type finishing moves, presumably to prevent them from doing so.
If there wasn’t a path leading to its location, Feng Yuan might have no choice but to break the rules it set.
"Time lockdown then use destructive power to carve the path by obliterating obstacles."
Agunas flicked his tail, considering this as the only feasible solution. However, this required that they be relatively close to the thing; otherwise, the time lockdown might not maintain long enough, not to mention destructive power wasn’t easy to wield.
"Hmm, seems...feasible. But it requires approaching that thing first; we’re still a bit far."
After pondering a moment, Feng Yuan felt this was a worthwhile suggestion. Veronia remained silent momentarily and said,
"Since that’s the case, then let me find the closest position."
Perhaps fortunately, the underground city’s location was already quite near the special energy reaction, so finding a closer spot wasn’t particularly challenging.
"I found it."
Veronia murmured, commencing to lead Feng Yuan and the others; as for continuing to expand the tendrils? She no longer intended to do so.
Tamur silently followed behind, gazing at the ancient city and said,
"Both real and illusory?"
"This is the closest point I can find to him now; other places are blocked by bombs, preventing the tendrils from scouting further paths."
Upon arriving at the destination, Veronia said. Currently, they were positioned between two small two-story buildings, and according to their senses, the massive energy reaction was just a short distance beyond the wall corner.
"Ready?"
Feng Yuan looked at Agunas and asked; the latter flicked his tail and replied,
"Let’s do it; I’ll go first."
The power of time lockdown once again enveloped Molan Giant Pit. Perhaps due to earlier alarms, Xiqing City didn’t pay excessive attention this time, for Agunas was trustworthy, and they had other matters requiring attention.
"Since crystal creations can be locked in time, whatever traps there are here should also be unable to escape this restriction, so..."
Gazing towards the direction of the massive energy reaction, Feng Yuan tossed the Ancient Black Book, and a black sphere emerged from the open ancient black book, floating in Feng Yuan’s palm. Pointing to the spot for clearing a path, a ghostly blue beam shot from the black sphere, swiftly erasing the obstructive rocks and other miscellaneous things.
