"It really lives up to the name of The Great Haunted House."
Feng Yuan looked back at his classmates with some amusement. Apart from a few, most had been thoroughly frightened by the various eerie occurrences in the remaining four mansions. But that was all, the host had even managed to differentiate the treatment so that the timid wouldn’t be overly scared, and the brave wouldn’t feel bored.
"Indeed, but without that ability, they wouldn’t dare to use such a large place, and..."
Dou Yanlan surveyed the manor shrouded in crimson with an inexplicable expression and said
"Are these stories they’ve come up with real or..."
"They must be made up, right? The first owner of the Foreyn Mansion was a businessman from Omeilia, and all the stories inside are about locals from Divine Land. They must have had someone make up a background story."
Qi Chen thought for a moment and said. Feng Yuan smiled and did not speak. At this time, he somewhat missed Guo Huai. If that guy were here, he could have him search for relevant historical data. But Guo Huai was busy preparing for Pu Pu’s evolution, so he did not attend this event.
"Why not check at the Maomu Grand Library later tonight?"
Seeing that Dou Yanlan still cared a lot about it, Feng Yuan suggested, and Qi Chen looked at Feng Yuan and asked
"You think it might be true?"
"I can’t be sure of that, but it’s true that the mansion has never changed hands, and the host does have plenty of things that went missing during the defense wars, so I can’t deny the story’s authenticity."
"Or maybe they’ve mixed some real stuff in?"
After pondering for a moment, Dou Yanlan said
"I can go alone later."
"I’ll go with you. There’s so much content in the historical archives, it will take you forever to find it alone."
Seeing Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan spreading ’dog food’ again, Feng Yuan took Xiao Ji and moved to the front of the group. By this time, everyone had toured the entire Foreyn Mansion, and all the building areas had been sealed and could not be entered.
"Go for another round? Let me see, no, it’s already four in the afternoon, and we don’t have enough time."
Just then, someone suggested going through it again, but Chen Xin checked the time on her phone and vetoed the suggestion.
"They should be open until ten at night, right? There should be enough time. And don’t you all think it would be more interesting to do this at night?"
"It’s boring to go through the same mechanisms again, isn’t it?"
"Not necessarily. Don’t all those great haunted houses have lots of plans?"
"But... wouldn’t it be really scary at night... "
"Haunting houses are meant to be played at night~"
"Hey! You’re not thinking about summoning spirits in a place like this, are you?!"
"Why not?"
"They definitely wouldn’t allow it! What if it summons evil spirits from the Netherworld?!"
"Tsk! Who’s afraid!"
"Sorry, the exit is this way."
At this moment, the tailcoat-clad man they had encountered earlier appeared from the shadows, bowed to everyone, and pointed to a Space Gate. The students didn’t dare to bring up dying in a haunted house, as it was fine to talk about it privately, but it seemed a bit too much to do so openly.
Though it was strange why they needed to leave through a Space Gate, no one asked further questions—perhaps that was part of their design.
"Why do I feel something is not quite right?"
After leaving the Foreyn Mansion, Qi Chen looked back at the ominous residence behind them and said in a low voice. By this time, everyone had dispersed, with the wealthier ones opting to take taxis back to school or to head to other places by bus. Dou Yanlan originally wanted to take a bus directly to Maomu Grand Library but noticed that Feng Yuan seemed to be stealing glances at the Foreyn Mansion behind them from time to time.
"Did you discover something?"
Dou Yanlan asked, curious. Looking towards Agunas, Feng Yuan asked
"Don’t you find it odd? Why leave through a Space Gate?"
"Isn’t that..."
As Qi Chen spoke, he choked. If it were for the sake of atmosphere, not to mention that they had finished their tour and were ready to leave, that Space Gate didn’t look like it had any effect in setting the mood, and instead, it seemed somewhat abrupt.
Furthermore, if they were to say that the Foreyn Mansion was in an alternate space, that wouldn’t be right either. At least they didn’t feel like they had crossed spaces. Although the Space-attribute Spirit Beast’s Space Gates could lead to those more unique small spaces, it was impossible to avoid the sensation of boundary breaking when passing through a Space Gate. That was a special sensation that would definitely occur when traversing between two spaces.
"Aren’t you going to deal with it?"
Agunas asked, looking at Feng Yuan. Although it didn’t know what had happened, it vaguely sensed that it might be within Gitalien’s area of business?
"Later, haunted houses are naturally more fun at night~ and besides, I’m also very interested in the Shen Family~"
"The Shen Family?"
Dou Yanlan looked at Feng Yuan with suspicion. The main character in the stories used in the haunted house was the Shen Family, so was Feng Yuan bringing them up now because he knew something?
Turning the dark ancient book in his hands, Feng Yuan smiled mysteriously and said,
"Exactly—some interesting things—"
"Feng Yuan?"
Upon hearing someone calling him, Feng Yuan, puzzled, turned around to see a woman waving at him. He said with a hint of surprise,
"Yun You? How did you get here?!"
Seeing Feng Yuan run over, Dou Yanlan thought for a moment and then whispered to Qi Chen,
"I want to follow him; I’m really interested in that story about the Shen residence..."
Understanding Dou Yanlan’s intention, Qi Chen whispered back,
"Let’s go together, then."
"Yun You, how did you come here?"
Upon reaching Yun You, Feng Yuan asked with a smile while Xiao Ji curiously sized up Yun You. The latter glanced at the Spirit Beast behind Feng Yuan, and asked with some confusion,
"Where’s Xiao Ji? I haven’t seen it."
Hearing Yun You’s question, Xiao Ji proudly puffed out its chest and called out. Seeing the eagle-like Xiao Ji, Yun You said in astonishment,
"It evolved? But this form is..."
"Consider it a newly discovered evolutionary form. But Yun You, why are you here? What about the manor..."
"I asked her to accompany me here."
Granny Mianlan interjected with a clear cough, calmly taking a moment to evaluate Xiao Ji before commenting,
"Not bad."
Xiao Ji, a little confused, shook its head, not understanding the meaning behind Granny Mianlan’s words. Only Yun You, who had some guesses, said with slight resignation,
"Granny, you really are..."
"You just finished the tour?"
With just a glance around, Granny Mianlan seemed to guess something. Feng Yuan nodded and said with a curious tone,
"Granny, why exactly are you here..."
Sighing, Granny Mianlan looked towards the Foreyn estate and said,
"To fulfill an unfinished wish of a loved one..."
"If you’re free..."
"How about taking a trip to the Shen residence with Granny?"
Granny Mianlan asked softly. Feng Yuan nodded and replied,
"Okay, I also have some things I need to deal with."
"Is there an issue with the Shen residence?!"
Granny Mianlan asked somewhat nervously. Shaking his head, Feng Yuan looked up at the clouds shrouding the Foreyn estate and said,
"I’m not quite certain at the moment..."
"The Shen residence?"
Dou Yanlan murmured softly to herself and, after a glance at the trio, slowly walked forward and asked,
"May I join you?"
Seeing Feng Yuan look over to her, Granny Mianlan smiled lightly and said,
"Of course, he can come along too."
Qi Chen, who had followed along behind, paused, and for a moment did not understand what was happening. Dazed, he followed Feng Yuan and the others as they stepped into the Foreyn estate once again, where Qi Chen discovered with surprise that the environment had changed again.
"What exactly..."
Granny Mianlan was also somewhat astounded. She could tell that the bone tree before them was definitely not a decoration created by them. The bone tree emitted a creaking noise as if calling out to something. The whole Foreyn estate had now taken on a ghostly aura; if previously, things had gradually created fear in people’s hearts, now the items here had become an unreserved intimidation.
"Such a huge change in just a little while? Moreover, these things have now exceeded the permitted scope of the haunted house..."
Dou Yanlan surveyed her surroundings with an indescribable expression. Both Great Xia and the Alliance had strict restrictions on haunted house attractions. Although it wasn’t that certain things were not allowed to exist, if they could easily cause psychological trauma, they would be deemed inappropriate for the general public.
Before, although the Foreyn estate was scary, it didn’t cause psychological trauma. But now, aside from the bone tree, there were various indescribably shaped things moving around, which clearly went beyond the all-ages limit.
