"Those selfish guys fighting on the front lines for Nanyu Kingdom would be the strange thing,"
Wei Fangwu said with a sneer of disdain. He had long known what the so-called Five Great Families were made of, and even the Wei Family was not much better, only the branch of the family head he had been part of could still claim to be loyal to Nanyu Kingdom. The rest of the relatives had long since changed their hearts.
"Talking about this now is pointless; they’ve all been driven away. As long as he can govern well, there should still be hope for Nanyu Kingdom,"
Wei Dingwu said wearily. When they supported the king of Nanyu, they saw too many shadows that lay hidden beneath the surface. Liu Wenli carefully observed the two elders who were reprimanding people from both sides and noticed that although they were very angry, they were more tired.
"I wonder if their wishes can ever come true..."
Liu Wenli murmured quietly, and Cheng Yong, standing beside her, wasn’t sure how to respond. Something came to her mind and Liu Wenli turned to Feng Yuan and asked,
"Do you know what’s happening with the Maritime People in the Omeilia region?"
"The Maritime People of Omeilia?!"
Startled by Liu Wenli’s question, Cheng Yong hadn’t considered this possibility. Feng Yuan closed his eyes and fell silent for a moment before saying,
"There are no Maritime People in Omeília. This region lacks the kind of tribes of Maritime People and Aquatic People that exist in the Divine Land Region."
Relieved by Feng Yuan’s words, Cheng Yong was about to relax when Feng Yuan continued,
"The coastal areas of Omeilia are mostly controlled by those families or great nobles, with plenty of naval forces. There is simply no place for the Maritime People to exist."
"Naval forces?"
Liu Wenli expressed confusion. The Divine Land Region, not focusing on the sea, had no armies specifically designed for maritime affairs, and she couldn’t imagine what naval forces would be like. Guo Huai, somewhat surprised, said,
"Naval forces? Could it be that they have warships?"
"Why wouldn’t they? Honestly, they’ve even managed to make something like the Spirit Beast Cannon,"
Feng Yuan said with a strange look on his face. Mo Li and others, puzzled, looked at Feng Yuan and asked,
"Spirit Beast Cannon? What is that?"
"You stuff a Spirit Beast into a cannon and shoot it out?"
Guo Huai ventured a guess, and Feng Yuan looked at him as if he were an idiot and said,
"Are you sure doing that won’t get you beaten? The Spirit Beast Cannon is similar to Divine Envoys and roaming warriors; it’s just that the thing directly absorbs the power of Spirit Beasts and blasts it at the enemy."
"What’s the point of that?"
Hua Yiyou didn’t understand. He didn’t think it would be better than letting Spirit Beasts fight directly. Feng Yuan revealed a sly smile and said,
"What if I told you that a single Spirit Beast Cannon could absorb and combine the powers of multiple Spirit Beasts? Even though there’s quite a bit of loss, the power is still pretty immense."
"Combine together?!"
The crowd exclaimed in surprise, unable to help themselves, and Feng Yuan nodded and added,
"That’s right, anything below Legendary Level can have its power increased by up to three tiers. You might want to try and see if that thing is of any use. Besides, they are also working on Crystalline Bombs that store the energy of Spirit Beasts."
"Ernis really knows how to play the game,"
"This is like cheating!"
Guo Huai said in disbelief. At this time, the Divine Land Region was still akin to an era of cold weapons, and yet Omeilia Region had seemingly entered an era of firearms. Feng Yuan just shrugged and said,
"Ernis is up to no good; what can you do about it?"
"Why do you say Ernis is up to no good?"
Guo Huai looked at Feng Yuan, puzzled. Among the group, only he and Yao Yin understood just how terrifying the Spirit Beast Cannon could be. Even if Omeilia and the Divine Land Region didn’t have enough Spirit Beasts for everyone, so what?
Don’t assume that the previous battle was all about Legendary and Rare Level Spirit Beasts; that was because the defense of Nanyu City was a war between nations. If a country didn’t even have Legendary and Legendary Level Spirit Beasts, then that country really shouldn’t think about establishing itself in the Divine Land Region, especially as time passed, they gradually found more and more Legendary and Rare Level Spirit Beasts.
Even so, in the evacuation battle at the time, the number of Legendary and Rare Level beings that actually participated did not exceed one hundred and twenty. Lower-level Spirit Beasts, although numerous, were meaningless on such a battlefield. The lower-level Spirit Beasts of Nanyu Kingdom were stationed on top of Nanyu City, while the allied forces left theirs at their base.
Without sufficient strength, even breaking through defenses is not possible, and venturing into Legendary Level battlefields would simply be a suicide mission. Under the area-of-effect strikes of Legendary Level tactics, it is estimated that all but Rare Level individuals would be neatly dealt with.
Therefore, not many Spirit Beasts were present on the battlefield at that time; otherwise, how could Feng Yuan and his small group have managed to hold back their main force?
This was even more true for the Maritime People. At that time, their Giant Continent Whales were very far from them, and it was easy for Spirit Beasts that were not of Legendary Level and situated too far from the safety of the magical islands to run into trouble. When Feng Yuan and the others encountered Xiao An and the Aquatic People, it was because the Island Jellyfish was right on the surface of the sea, not far away. Their Spirit Beasts were much weaker than those of the Maritime People and only dared to fish near the Island Jellyfish.
There were many lower-level Spirit Beasts relatively speaking. If one were to utilize the Spirit Beast Cannon, the number of lower-level Spirit Beasts that could join a Legendary Level battlefield would far exceed those of Legendary Level and above. This could easily disrupt the balance, as these beasts, while poor in defense, could at least break through it and injure beings of Legendary Level.
Seeing that everyone’s expressions were not looking good, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said,
"Why are you all looking like this? Don’t tell me you’re planning to engage in armed trade in Omeilia?"
"What armed trade... I am just concerned about how they will conduct trade with those people if it comes to that," Guo Huai glanced at Feng Yuan with a bit of worry, noting that a premise of fair trade is that the powers of both parties are not too disparate. According to Feng Yuan’s information, the coastal towns of Omeilia were clearly much stronger than the Aquatic People.
Feng Yuan looked at the Maritime People and said,
"Aren’t they still around? Although they’re not good at trading, their martial power is strong, right?"
"But they have the Spirit Beast Cannon," Guo Huai said discontentedly, and although the others didn’t understand the full threat of the Spirit Beast Cannon, merely knowing that it could enhance the offensive power of Spirit Beasts was enough for them to treat it quite seriously.
"So what? That thing wears out quickly; they’d be crazy to use it without good cause."
"If we can cooperate with the Maritime People, then it’s not a large problem, but if we go there directly..."
Feng Yuan glanced at Cheng Yong, whose complexion wasn’t looking very good at the moment. Although it was a fact that the Maritime People were stronger than them, having it pointed out like this...
"With us there, those guys should be pretty honest. After all, that thing is meaningless to Divine Beasts," Mo Li said with a smile, not saying much more. He knew Feng Yuan was warning Cheng Yong, or perhaps using him to warn the Aquatic People. Liu Wenli looked at Feng Yuan and asked,
"What is Ernis? Why did you say it’s causing trouble?"
"One of the twin gods of the Omeilia Region, with a status similar to that of Lorraine Tower in the Divine Land Region," Feng Yuan replied.
"Lorraine Tower?"
Liu Wenli did not know much about Lorraine Tower, or perhaps people in the current Divine Land Region didn’t know much about the twin gods of time and space, as they had almost never appeared before humans. Feng Yuan thought for a while and said,
"Anyway, you can consider them the strongest two Divine Beasts in the Divine Land Region, and Ernis is the same."
"The strongest Divine Beast of Omeilia..." Liu Wenli said softly, looking towards Feng Yuan and inquired,
"So what exactly did it do?"
"It came up with all sorts of strange things like Spirit Beast Cannons and Spirit Beast Lances," said Feng Yuan, somewhat speechlessly. He didn’t know whether Ernis was just bored or what, but somehow it provided Omeilia with a huge variety of hot weapons designed for Spirit Beasts. Guo Huai said, surprised,
"Is it really that one? I remember that its relationship with humans isn’t very good, is it? To think it would provide humans with such things?"
Feng Yuan glanced at Guo Huai and replied,
"Who else but that one, Arnis’s domain is the creation of magic-related things; it simply couldn’t produce such items. As for a good relationship with humans? Honestly, what do you think the outcome would be if the human world got their hands on them now?"
"I don’t know..."
"Fights would turn even more brutal, that’s what. Only with everyone wielding stronger weapons can there be more devastating consequences. Now, although the Omeilia Region is very restrained, once a fight breaks out, who knows what could happen, especially since those Spirit Beast Cannons, and the like, can’t control their power like Spirit Beasts can."
"This..."
After glancing at the Maritime People as they angrily left, everyone understood what Feng Yuan meant.
