"I’m finally back~"
Returning to the dorm, Feng Yuan excitedly tossed his backpack onto the bed and shouted. Xiao Ji immediately transformed into the form of an Eggshell Chicken and slipped back into its hut to curl up, probably tired. After a while, it seemed to remember something, poked its head out, chirped toward Feng Yuan as if to say goodnight, and then withdrew again.
"I didn’t expect to have to stand for so long."
Sitting on the bed, Feng Yuan complained with dissatisfaction, and Qi Chen glanced at him and replied with a touch of annoyance,
"The high-speed rail travel time is fixed. As for not having a seat, isn’t that very normal?"
"Hmph! I thought there would be open seats."
Feng Yuan pouted and said unhappily, while Agunas landed next to the window and commented,
"With such a big incident at Lake Bai Dao, it’s normal for the residents of surrounding towns to flee. It’s just..."
"It’s all the fault of those researchers. Don’t they know what they’re thinking, getting anxious when they saw G Organization and the Hunters with all that strange technology?"
Feng Yuan said as he swept his backpack aside and lay down on the bed with an irritated voice. Qi Chen, somewhat puzzled, asked,
"Speaking of which, what’s the situation with their technology? I remember G Organization is more proficient in biotechnology, right? Why would they suddenly come up with something that can break through Barriers?"
"That’s not breaking through Barriers. How to put it, G Organization and the Hunters are inherently opposed. Their bullets are specifically designed to destroy the Hunters’ Barriers and are of no use against any other Barriers."
Feng Yuan closed his eyes and thought for a moment before saying. Agunas, flipping through a book in his hands, said,
"That barrier-breaking bullet was kindly provided by Ernis. That guy is hunting those Hunters in Omeilia and can’t reach the Divine Land Region for the time being, so he supplied them with that stuff."
"Ernis, huh... That figures. No, wait!"
Feng Yuan sat up as if he had heard some shocking news and looked at Agunas saying,
"Why would they accept a gift from Ernis?!"
"They share the same goal. He’s not that restricted. As long as he can achieve his goal, cooperating with an enemy is not out of the question, of course not with the Hunters."
Agunas said this unsurprisingly, and lying back down, Feng Yuan said somewhat helplessly,
"He really is..."
The Master of the Mirror Realm emerged from a bead and, clutching his precious bead, darted under the bed. Noticing something, Feng Yuan quickly lay down and peered into the darkness at the pair of bright eyes,
"What are you hiding for? Come out!"
The Master of the Mirror Realm didn’t react and even retreated further into the darkness, bumping into a box stuffed under the bed by Feng Yuan. The Master of the Mirror Realm seemed to think of something, hugged the bead, and tugged the box forcefully to create just a crack between it and the wall before slipping inside. Seeing the other party hiding behind the box, Feng Yuan stood up and, holding his forehead said,
"Agunas, help me out here, get it out."
"No, too dirty."
Agunas said with disgust. Under the bed had only been cleaned a couple of times a year, and it was full of dust and some unnoticeable trash. Although it had the ability to keep itself clean, it wouldn’t bother with such a place unless necessary. As for whether it would sneak away when people weren’t paying attention?
That would be impossible. Although the Black Chains had become invisible, the chain tattoo on Feng Yuan’s arm and the chain patterns on the body of the Master of the Mirror Realm still indicated that the chains were still there. With those chains in place, the other party could not get too far from Feng Yuan.
As for attacking Feng Yuan? Agunas didn’t think the other party would be so unwise. Annoying that guy – if the Cang Ming Dragon were to reappear, it might just take it away, especially since its situation was somewhat special. Divine Beasts should be exercising authority to maintain world stability, but its authority actually no longer had any meaning.
The World of Mirrors was no longer within Its plan, and the Master of the Mirror Realm had lost its duties as a Divine Beast. That’s why the other side felt that way, right? Agunas guessed with some puzzlement.
"Uh... what are you doing?"
"Taking Ah Mu for training; the academy assessments start next month, and I don’t have the luxury of time like you do."
Qi Chen glanced at Feng Yuan with annoyance as he said this. That guy didn’t need to worry about the academy assessments at all, but Qi Chen did. When he faced the challenge of Lake’s Brave Ones, he realized that although he probably wouldn’t have any trouble enrolling in Maomu Academy with the boost from the Maomu Beast Tamer competition, if he really wanted to pursue the path of a Beastmaster, he needed to work even harder.
"Why don’t you take Xiao Ji with you as well?"
Rubbing his eyes, Feng Yuan got up and knocked on Xiao Ji’s little house. The creature peeked out, looking somewhat confused at Feng Yuan, who casually picked up Xiao Ji and placed it in front of Qi Chen, saying,
"Do me a favor, yeah?"
"Hey! Why don’t you take it for training yourself?"
Qi Chen looked at Feng Yuan speechlessly, while Xiao Ji gazed pitifully at Feng Yuan, who shook his head decisively in refusal.
"I don’t want to. Why can’t it just enjoy life instead of being soaked in training all the time?"
"You, lazybones, you’re going to lead Xiao Ji astray too..."
"Lazy? I just don’t want its high school memories to be solely of endless training, you know?"
Agunas flicked its tail dismissively as it eyed Feng Yuan’s pretext.
"What nonsense are you talking? Xiao Ji has accompanied you to so many places. When has it ever been only about endless training? And about Wu Feng, have you stayed in touch with him?"
"Why? Do you need him for something? Just let the Vermilion Bird send him a message directly. He’s the Divine Pact Maker of the Vermilion Bird; it should be able to contact him."
Feng Yuan asked in surprise, not understanding why Agunas suddenly brought up the topic. Agunas flicked its tail and suggested,
"If you guys are looking to train, the Tower of Oblivion in Featherwood City would be a pretty good place."
"Why are you bringing that up all of a sudden?"
Feng Yuan felt suspicious. The Tower of Oblivion in Featherwood City was a special place, Feng Yuan guessed that it was constructed with help from numerous external participants. Inside, it contained a space almost as vast as the real world with various challenges. If the aim was to hone real combat skills, indeed, it was an excellent place to train.
However, because the distribution of power inside was quite chaotic, it was difficult to guarantee that one wouldn’t encounter enemies far stronger than oneself. There were no adequate safety measures inside the Tower of Oblivion, and if one were unlucky enough not to use the Tower’s teleportation stones to escape in time, one might be stuck there forever.
Unless Feng Yuan stayed behind them constantly on guard, it wasn’t a suitable place for Qi Chen and the others. Of course, Xiao Ji wasn’t included in Feng Yuan’s consideration; if that critter needed real combat experience, wouldn’t it be more convenient to go to Drudgeon and the others? Being Divine Beasts themselves, they would certainly be happy to mentor Xiao Ji.
"Just suddenly thought of it."
Agunas said a bit guiltily, flicking its tail while Feng Yuan eyed it with suspicion.
"Do you think I’ll believe that? Nothing’s happened over there again, has it? But I remember Wu Feng’s family is also in Featherwood City; he’d probably step in if there really was an issue, wouldn’t he? Can the problem not be solved by the Vermilion Bird?"
Although the Divine Beasts weren’t completely back in their territories at the moment, those that had Divine Pact Makers had mostly returned to their domains. After all, a war almost broke out in Great Xia, hadn’t it? Yimu Qingling, because it had no Divine Pact Maker, wasn’t actually very inclined to side with Great Xia.
With all the invaders running rampant, Yimu Qingling wasn’t staying in Shenhua City of Great Xia, though even if it and the Vermilion Bird were guarding within the borders, it likely wouldn’t make much difference.
The real Guardian Divine Beasts of Great Xia were the Vermilion Bird and the Earth Qilin that had been there since the founding of the country. Perhaps other Divine Beasts also had good relations with Great Xia, but since they hadn’t made overt appearances, Feng Yuan guessed they probably didn’t have Divine Pact Makers and were just on good terms.
Just like Granny Mianlan, aside from being able to recommend humans she believed might meet Drudgeon’s standards, she could also take the opportunity to request its intervention, like during the Emerald Ruins incident.
"It’s not that. There’s been a spatial anomaly inside the Tower of Oblivion. The impact isn’t significant, but it still concerns me."
Agunas looked at Feng Yuan as it spoke. Shrugging his shoulders, Feng Yuan replied puzzledly,
"Hasn’t Gitalien checked it out?"
