"Ring of the Yellow Sand? They sure have guts to tamper with that thing."
Drudgeon looked at Agunas with surprise. At the moment, what stayed at the Fire Stronghold was Agunas’s true body. Since Feng Yuan was not here, Agunas decided to bring Drudgeon along to use the stronghold’s original defenses against those people.
Although he was confident in his own strength, Agunas did not arrogantly assume that those people hadn’t considered its presence. Perhaps they had already factored it into their calculations when planning against their enemies.
"If they activate it, I’m afraid many areas in Great Xia will be destroyed. Moreover, that thing is clearly not permitted to remain in human hands, how dare they!"
Drudgeon said angrily. If it was just a matter of human action, the Divine Beasts could have been unaware, but this time it was clear that the Divine Beasts were also involved, which was a bit too much.
"It can pretend not to know, but what exactly is it trying to do?"
Agunas was perplexed, unable to comprehend Nierlat’s actions. Even if Feng Yuan and Lorraine Tower had a good relationship, if the other side wanted Lorraine Tower to help with something outrageous, it would definitely refuse.
"What a nuisance, I hope it doesn’t escalate into a new great war."
Drudgeon shook his fluffy tail nervously as he spoke. After all, such actions that crossed the line could easily provoke the hostility of other Divine Beasts, with unpredictable consequences.
"Hopefully."
Agunas replied uncertainly. He didn’t know what else to say about it—if the other party really did that, he feared he himself would choose to take action.
"Ring of the Yellow Sand? How dare they!"
Elder Li shouted in anger. The Grand Elder glanced at Elder Li and said,
"I have already asked an old friend to help. I called you here to ask you to take some people to Frostleaf City."
"You’re worried..."
"Though the information he received indicates that their target is only the Ring of the Yellow Sand, we can’t disregard the other locations. The Starry Sky Concealed Land is somewhat special; I believe they wouldn’t dare."
The Grand Elder spoke gravely. The Starry Sky Concealed Land sealed relics from the Mythical Era, but it was permeated with the power of time and space. He didn’t believe that the Time-Space Twin Gods of the Divine Land Region weren’t paying attention. He trusted that those people would not have the guts to tamper with it, because doing so would be tantamount to declaring war on the Time-Space Twin Gods themselves.
"Frostleaf City..."
After sighing, Elder Li said,
"I understand. But do we not need to send people to Xinmu City?"
"I trust him."
The Grand Elder didn’t elaborate further. After staring at the aged Grand Elder for a while, Elder Li turned and left. Although he didn’t understand who the Grand Elder’s enigmatic friend was, given the Grand Elder’s insight, he probably wouldn’t misjudge a person.
"Tch! Such a troublesome guy."
Drudgeon stepped on floating frost platforms, leaping higher and higher into the sky. In his hand, an ice-blue spear refracted dazzling light. In the distance, a strange mechanical creature was continuously destroying the surrounding environment.
With a point of his spear, water dragons blasted toward the mechanical creature, with the ocean currents changing wildly under Drudgeon’s manipulation. Even though Drudgeon had the home-court advantage in this city swallowed by the ocean, dealing with the strange mechanical creature was still a hassle.
What exactly was that thing made of? Drudgeon wondered. It seemed to go beyond Nierlat’s capabilities. And mechanical creatures? It couldn’t be that he’s sided with foreign enemies, could it?! At that thought, Drudgeon’s face showed a fierce light as he swung his spear fiercely.
"What exactly is that?!"
In the dormitory, Qi Chen stared at the blue ocean in the sky in surprise. In the deep blue starry sky, that sea of azure light was so conspicuous. At this moment, not only Qi Chen but all the awake people in Maomu City were stunned by the scene in front of them. Could it be that someone was attacking again? Ordinary people couldn’t help but panic, given that illegal organizations had been particularly active recently.
"Drudgeon’s Ultimate Move, but why is it so... visible?"
Dou Yanlan said uncertainly. Although they were not much help, neither had the idea of continuing to rest. After all, they were facing an unconventional war now, and they both had loved ones they naturally wanted to keep a constant eye on the current situation.
"What exactly... are they doing."
Looking at the sky, Liao Yu murmured in amazement as Ye Hanlei checked her weapons and said.
"No matter what, that is not a battle we can interfere with. Let’s go and see if there are any fish that slipped through the net."
Beside him, Huo Feng silently picked up the weapon in his hand and followed Ye Hanlei. They were not sure how exactly Feng Yuan had spoken to Drudgeon, but they could be certain that Drudgeon would not have captured all the spies hiding around. If those characters were left unchecked, no one knew when they might unexpectedly strike.
"What exactly are they after..."
Gazing at the deep blue ocean in the sky, Liao Yu muttered to himself. Huo Feng glanced at Liao Yu and calmly said,
"As an enemy, it’s enough just to eliminate them."
"But, if we let them be, what if their target isn’t us here..."
Liao Yu scratched his head, clearly puzzled, and Ye Hanlei looked at him and said,
"If you really want to figure it out, you can apply to Captain Yan to be transferred to the intelligence department."
"Do you think that Feng Yuan would ignore this, or that Agunas and the others would not be able to find out the truth?"
"That..."
Scratching his head, Liao Yu sheepishly didn’t rebut, indeed realizing what Ye Hanlei had said was true. Whether it was Feng Yuan or Agunas and the rest, none would allow those scoundrels to run wild. However, it felt odd that although it was their duty to safeguard the people’s safety, it ended up being others who were shouldering their responsibility.
"Has it begun?"
Agunas tossed the book in his hand and looking toward the distant red pillar of light, he whispered, and glanced at Drudgeon beside him, Agunas said,
"You stay here. Be careful not to let them hurt the people in the stronghold."
"Be safe and cautious not to let them get anywhere near where Yognot is slumbering."
Although the location of the light pillar was far from where Yognot slept, Drudgeon was still somewhat worried. The exact location of Yognot was unknown even to the Alliance, but there was information within the Alliance that Yognot was near the Fire Stronghold, hence it wasn’t odd for the adversaries to have found this place.
"Understood, be careful yourself, as I fear I might not be able to pay attention to this place all the time."
After all, Drudgeon was much weaker than Agunas, who was still somewhat worried. However, those troublemakers couldn’t just be ignored. With a flash, Agunas vanished in front of Drudgeon, whose fluffy pointed ears drooped slightly. Drudgeon turned to He Nanqing and said,
"Let’s go. We’ll check if there’s anything unusual in the stronghold again."
"This power, the power of the Netherworld? But it seems not pure."
Agunas looked at the mechanical device with some confusion. Just at that moment, a roaring sound came through, and Long Boduo, sprinting on a dirt path that emerged from the void, ran up to Agunas and asked,
"What’s going on here?"
"Why are you here?"
Agunas looked puzzled; it seemed that Feng Yuan hadn’t sought help from other Divine Beasts via their intelligence network. Long Boduo snorted and said,
"Drudgeon and Nierlat are at each other’s throats again. Didn’t you notice?"
"You really do have too much free time."
Agunas gave Long Boduo an incredulous look. Their quarrels usually occurred in a specific communication area. That area’s messages were not sent automatically to all Divine Beasts - one had to check it intentionally. Therefore, virtually, the area was filled with bickering messages and even full-blown verbal fights, which wasn’t surprising at all. Agunas certainly had no interest in watching other Divine Beasts quarrel.
"It can’t be helped. There are too few beings from the Netherworld, and the real world is not much better either. You’re always busy with these trifles, doesn’t it exhaust you?"
Long Boduo curiously looked at the red light pillar, and Agunas flicked its tail and said,
"Do you know what that thing is?"
"An ancient artifact, name unknown, but I can tell it’s using the power of the Netherworld to spread death."
Long Boduo scrutinized the device on the ground somewhat strangely and said. It didn’t quite understand human thought – what’s the point of bringing the Netherworld’s power into reality? Aside from bringing death, what other purpose could it serve?
