"I just see that they know nothing..."
Yao Yin looked at Guo Huai with incomprehension and said,
"You can hardly be called an ordinary person anymore, can you? So what if they don’t know?"
"Why should everything be kept from ordinary people! Do you elites really think you are always right?"
Guo Huai seemed to recall something, and his long-suppressed dissatisfaction suddenly burst forth.
"Why should you be the ones to decide our future!"
"Why should you presume we shouldn’t know those things!"
"Have you ever asked us! Have you ever sought our opinion!"
Listening to Guo Huai’s continual outpouring of rage, Yao Yin appeared thoughtful as she sized him up. After a long while, Guo Huai said in a low voice,
"Sorry, I just couldn’t hold it in..."
Eyeing Guo Huai with interest, Yao Yin smiled and said,
"Have you said enough?"
Guo Huai shrank back a little guiltily and twiddled with the cup in his hands. In a soft voice, Yao Yin said,
"Do you really think you’re not one of the so-called elites you’re talking about?"
"But..."
Yao Yin walked over to the window and looked out over the brightly lit Yongning. She said calmly,
"Because of what you said, all of Yongning has been forced into action."
"Have you considered the consequences of what you’re doing?"
"What consequences?"
Guo Huai looked at Yao Yin perplexedly, leaning on the windowsill and gazing at the nocturnal scene of Yongning. With a sense of resignation, Yao Yin said,
"You are forcing the other side to make a move."
"No... That can’t be..."
"What you’re doing will make the other side suspect how much information Mo Li actually has. Even if it is just speculation, finding some evidence isn’t difficult once they have the right lead. If they are thinking of eliminating the threat before it grows..."
Guo Huai’s complexion turned exceedingly bad, and Yao Yin, looking at the cup in her hand, said with a laugh,
"However, you did manage to do one good thing. The other side’s actions have left us somewhat puzzled. If their target is Yongning, why has there been no movement for so long? It’s impossible for them to not realize that Mo Li is suspicious."
"If there’s another, more important target, and you’ve caused such a stir, as long as they don’t strike immediately, then..."
Looking out the window, Yao Yin said with a fierce gleam in her eyes,
"That target must be very important, so important that they can afford to put aside matters here temporarily. Now is the time for ’that guy’ to take action."
"A quid pro quo; we too should send them a little gift, shouldn’t we~"
Seeing Yao Yin’s somewhat sinister smile, a chill ran down Guo Huai’s back. He hurriedly tried to recall if he had accidentally offended Yao Yin.
"I thought you were planning to continue your search in the night."
Seeing Feng Yuan leaning on Xiao Ji, Agunas’ shadowy figure spoke calmly. Glancing at the figure of Agunas, Feng Yuan yawned and said,
"I’m a bit sleepy today, and Xiao Ji and I don’t have night vision. With so many little rock creatures and their evolved forms gathered here, searching with lights isn’t ideal."
Feng Yuan looked at Agunas’ shadowy figure with a slight upturn of his lips and said,
"Disturbing one’s sweet dreams might get you beaten up, you know~"
"Are you afraid?"
"Not afraid per se, but to beat them up without reason? I’m not that bored."
Shifting his body to find a more comfortable position, Feng Yuan continued,
"This place is home for them. If I do that, wouldn’t it be like barging into someone else’s home, searching for stuff, and beating up the homeowner while I’m at it?"
"Would you care about that?"
"Why wouldn’t I? If I just do as I please, how am I any different from a demon?"
Looking at the starry sky, Feng Yuan said calmly,
"As long as it doesn’t affect me personally, I think being a so-called ’good guy’ isn’t a bad thing, right?"
"As long as you’re happy."
Agunas’ shadowy figure spoke, then glanced at Xiao Ji, who was lying on the ground, and said,
"Are you just going to rest like this?"
"What else? I can’t exactly call upon the White Wolf Deity, can I?"
"But there shouldn’t be any problem with putting up something like a tent, right?"
Standing up and placing his hands on his hips discontentedly, Feng Yuan said,
"We’re in the wilderness, the wilderness! There should be the joy of camping. It wouldn’t make any sense to just pop up a villa."
"You seem to be twisting my words."
"Weren’t those your words?"
Staring at Feng Yuan, Agunas’ shadowy figure spoke deliberately,
"I’m talking about tents!"
"Tents, huh... Xiao Ji, are you planning to sleep in the tent with me or rest like you are now?"
With a slight roll of her eyes, Xiao Ji chirped joyfully and made a protective gesture over Feng Yuan with her wings, prompting Feng Yuan to glance at Agunas’s phantom and say,
"Look~ This is Xiao Ji’s own choice~"
Upon seeing Xiao Ji, Agunas’s phantom said helplessly,
"As long as you’re happy, it’s as though it’s my fault."
The Little Green Snake watched Pomiti while keeping an eye on Feng Yuan, her eyeballs rolling around as if she were pondering something.
"Strange, not to mention Karnas, I haven’t even seen Carnas. Could they have already left?"
Getting up in the morning, Feng Yuan looked around at the Spirit Beasts that were already active and said with some confusion, while Agunas’s phantom responded,
"Wouldn’t that be a good thing?"
"But I’m not sure. It would be fine if they truly had left, but it would be troublesome if it’s hiding somewhere and I don’t know where."
"Forget it, I’ll search for another day. If I still can’t find them then, I’ll have to give up."
As he spoke, Feng Yuan gently patted Xiao Ji and said,
"I’ll have to trouble you with breakfast~"
Xiao Ji cast a glance at Feng Yuan, let out a long cry, and flew into the sky. Feng Yuan kicked a small stone beside him and said with resignation,
"This place really is devoid of almost any living creature; we have to rely on Xiao Ji to find food in other mountain ranges."
"Even such a desolate place is targeted... Ambitious men really are a terrifying breed..."
Feng Yuan looked at Agunas’s phantom with a smile that was not quite a smile,
"Not just the ambitious. If Divine Beasts like you aren’t careful, the problems you bring are hardly any better~"
Knowing who Feng Yuan was referring to, Agunas’s phantom swished his tail and said,
"Whether it’s right or wrong what it did is still hard to say, and among men, isn’t there a group that agrees with him?"
"That’s true, but it’s ultimately a trouble..."
"You don’t agree with his methods?"
Agunas’s phantom looked at Feng Yuan with some puzzlement. Feng Yuan glanced in the direction where Xiao Ji had gone and said with a faint smile,
"Perhaps I’m too selfish, but since that problem doesn’t concern me, I won’t think about solving it."
"Moreover... this isn’t something we can accomplish..."
"He may understand that, but still, he clings to hope, and... he can’t stop anymore..."
Staring at the sky, Feng Yuan said helplessly,
"Once you’re on the wrong path, there’s no turning back..."
"Have you decided?"
The kind old man looked at Hua Yiyou and asked, to which Hua Yiyou chuckled as if without a choice and replied,
"Isn’t that what you all expect?"
"If this isn’t what you truly want, then don’t do it."
"Whatever we say can’t compare to your own thoughts."
The old man stared at Hua Yiyou and said sternly,
"I don’t want you to waste your talent standing guard here, but I also don’t want you to do something you dislike because of us!"
Sighing, Hua Yiyou said softly,
"But Divine Lord, you pointed out the right path to me..."
"There’s never a single right path! Even the God of Time can’t see through all of the future."
Walking over, the old man gently patted Hua Yiyou on the back and said softly,
"Even I can make mistakes."
"I..."
"Think it over carefully, not for anyone else. Consider what you want for yourself, and how you should choose..."
The old man said this, waved his hand, rose from the bed, and left Hua Yiyou murmuring to himself,
"My own thoughts, huh... What do I really want..."
Staring blankly at the ceiling, Hua Yiyou was lost in thought.
"That guy hasn’t returned today? I hope he hasn’t disappeared for a while only to bring back bad news again."
Asking the city gate guards for news about Feng Yuan again, Yao Yin spoke discontentedly, and Mo Ling said with some concern,
"That couldn’t be the case, right...?"
"Hard to say. Didn’t he do the same thing last time?"
"What should we do... Should I discuss it with my brother?"
Yao Yin turned her head to look at the White Wolf Deity closely following her and asked,
"Do you know what that guy went off to do?"
