After guessing why this place is gathering so many divine artifacts from the mythical era, Feng Yuan no longer concerns himself with these matters. Even if those Divine Beasts might encounter unforeseen circumstances, it wouldn’t be the same for them. It’s not about planning unparalleled schemes, but simply the ability that is there.
A Divine Beast possesses singular authority, able to harness the power of the entire world to accomplish its arrangements. Even should something unexpected occur, unless it’s someone like Feng Yuan capable of defying the world’s power, there’s no way to counteract its corrections.
To put it bluntly, they simply use absolute power to push things in the direction they intend, surprises? Just crush them with force.
Therefore, Feng Yuan is completely unafraid of any danger here. Even if someone tries to stir up trouble, it’ll be those self-proclaimed clever ones who suffer misfortune.
Having played at the Ice Lotus Hot Spring for a few days, Feng Yuan finally grew tired and, instead of slowly flying back, had Agunas open the Space Gate.
Though it had only been a few days since his absence, Maomu City felt somewhat unfamiliar to Feng Yuan. Those shops closed due to the chaos were once again open for business, and decorations lined both sides of the road. Judging by the messy style and designs, Feng Yuan was certain this was not the work of officials.
Were it not for knowing that the new year had long passed, Feng Yuan might indeed think they were preparing for it. It was quite rare for an entire city to be made so lively within just a few days.
However, Feng Yuan noticed something unusual among the people on the streets. They weren’t particularly joyful; many faces carried worry, and Feng Yuan could sense they were ordinary people.
This wasn’t due to any bias Feng Yuan might have, but normally, pedestrians primarily consisted of ordinary people, with Beastmasters not being scarce. And yet now, Feng Yuan rarely saw the presence of Beastmasters.
"Strange, could they all have gone to the Imperial Timeline?"
Feng Yuan stroked his chin, somewhat puzzled. Qi Chen and his companions might have rushed to the Imperial Timeline because they found some good opportunity, but what about the others? Feng Yuan didn’t believe most Beastmasters could pass that trial jokingly. Qi Chen and his companions could because of their involvement in the defense and accompanying Feng Yuan to the Imperial Timeline.
Those fellows barely participated in the defense; are their contributions truly enough to pass the trial?
Without obtaining the Ascension Stone, going recklessly into the Imperial Timeline carries a high probability of mishap.
"Perhaps, as many Beastmasters are now entering the Legendary Stage, those who couldn’t make it suddenly fell behind." Veronia observed the pedestrians as she spoke lightly, while Agunas whipped his tail and said,
"The situation over in the Imperial Timeline is very chaotic, with various forces mixed together, making it impossible for war reports to provide detailed intelligence."
"That’s not unexpected. Having those guys cooperate properly is strange enough. Yet, without Legendary-level strength, they’re risking their lives." Veronia chuckled lightly, her face innocent, as she remarked,
"Why do they insist on doing this? Clearly, one can live well without Legendary-level strength."
Although a Beastmaster’s strength determines their earning capability, and the stronger the Beastmaster, the more extravagant their ability to earn, it doesn’t mean ordinary Beastmasters must lead poor lives.
Before the appearance of the Ascension Stone, the overall distribution of Beastmasters resembled a pyramid from low to high, with the weaker being more numerous. By the time it reached the Legendary stage, few remained.
Though their earning power is extraordinarily high, they don’t need it, while ordinary Beastmasters can live affluent lives with the miraculous powers of Spirit Beasts.
Agunas glanced at Veronia speechlessly, saying,
"You clearly know why. Right now, it’s both dangerous and opportunistic — this is their last chance. Even if there’s a future war with the War Timeline, it might not have much to do with ordinary people."
"Take a gamble now; there might be a chance of dying, yet there’s also a high possibility of obtaining a Legendary stage ticket."
"Strength is the key to self-preservation and protecting one’s family."
War is clearly unceasing, and the Ascension Stone has become crucial for protecting one’s family. Now, Legendary-level strength has become commonplace, making easy earnings after reaching the Legendary stage like before impossible.
But this doesn’t mean striving is meaningless; strength determines whether they have the power to resist in the future war.
Agunas claims this is their last chance simply because this rush approach is likely to occur only this once.
After this batch gambles their way into the Legendary stage, they might not have the courage to do it again.
Like Qi Chen and his companions, they’re not only trying to reinforce their team, but because they have talent, and are confident they can emerge unscathed from this chaos; after weighing their options, they considered participating in this chaos.
Others mostly rely on the idea of stepping into the Legendary stage to sustain themselves. Once their aim is achieved, they might not have the spirit to fight again.
By then, those truly able to fight may only be from various countries. As for the major powers, they might also take action, but not in such disorderly manner. They may secretly negotiate with certain countries, mingling into another’s troops to act together.
At least, a chaotic rush like now should be difficult to replicate.
"Strength... ah, really..."
Feng Yuan shook his head and sighed; he couldn’t do anything about it. Qi Chen and his companions went to the Imperial Timeline for the same reasons.
"Clearly, it’s a joyous setup, yet the atmosphere is filled with sorrow." Veronia said softly. Feng Yuan wanted to retort, but realized he couldn’t; the expressions of those pedestrians spoke volumes. So many Beastmasters joined this action, but it’s hard to say how many will ultimately return.
At least, they’ve all acknowledged one thing — this operation’s casualties might far exceed those of the United Army. There’s no choice; the United Army has Divine Beasts as backing, while they have nothing.
Regardless, there are many who still want to fight, as the war in the War Timeline is imminent, and nobody knows what might happen in this battle. Rather than pinning hopes on others, they’d rather gamble.
"I wonder what’s going on at the department store now, data square there probably hasn’t changed, has it?"
Looking around, Feng Yuan said. Maomu City is not large and commercial areas are few. Aside from the newly emerged data square, the department store area is the only place with thriving commerce; as for Tea Wood Town, Feng Yuan assumes it won’t reopen anytime soon.
The Tea Wood Town area is passable as it’s barely functioning; other areas mostly avoided disaster, significantly impacting production activities. At this time, there are likely no local products for sale.
Even Tea Wood Town is in rough shape, given how long this disruption has lasted.
"There probably won’t be any changes; the time is too short." Agunas thought seriously before saying. The data square is now the centralized location for handling business, and in just a few days, it’s unlikely it would change readily — at least not before Maomu City is fully stabilized.
"Let’s go wander around the department store; here... there’s nothing much to buy." Feng Yuan said offhandedly, glancing at the shops. While many shops resumed business over the past few days, what they sold was just old stock.
There’s no choice; the war only lasted a short time, but it forced various production activities to halt, leaving shortages hard to resolve quickly.
Of course, it’s not overly severe, given the Spirit Beasts. Common crops and such can be rapidly grown, and as for industrial goods, once production lines recover, they can swiftly fill the gap.
This period will inevitably see significant price fluctuations.
"Aren’t you going back to check?" Agunas looked at Feng Yuan quizzically, only for him to be stunned before understanding Agunas’s meaning. Chuckling and shaking his head, Feng Yuan replied,
"It’s not suitable. If I go now, what should I say if I meet Xiao Shuang and the others? Comforting words are unnecessary; should something unexpected happen..."
"With their strength and capability, combined with the Mythical Transformation from Tamur, I feel it’s not so easy for accidents to occur." Listening to Veronia, Feng Yuan smiled helplessly,
"Isn’t an accident precisely outside the norm?"
