"It’s not your fault, such is destiny. Whether one complies with fate or resists, it has never been simple, has it?"
Little Husky raised its paw, gently patted the white cat, and said with a smile, while looking at Little Husky, Belusir remained silent for a long time before speaking
"What about you?"
"Me? Conforming or rebelling, does it make a difference? When the things I don’t wish to see happen, should I hesitate whether to resist or not?"
Without any hesitation, Little Husky said with a proud smile, then remembered something and added
"Of course, I will still consider the cost of my actions. Perhaps, resisting is just to make myself feel better; for the situation at hand, it might just make things worse."
"Fate is unpredictable, just like time. Who can truly dictate it always? Although you have the ability to peer into fate, such a thing really shouldn’t be used unless necessary."
Hearing Feng Yuan’s advice, Belusir shook its head and said
"That is my duty."
"Your duty is only to maintain the stability of the River of Fate, not allowing those who arbitrarily interfere with the destiny of creatures to run amok. However, this definition has never been strict. Take me, for example; you should be able to see how many people’s fates I’ve influenced~"
Sitting on the ground, Little Husky wagged its tail and spoke, while Agunas quietly floated by the side without making a sound. It had some doubts about Belusir’s duty, indeed. If it was truly to maintain the stability of the River of Fate, then whether it’s Feng Yuan or any other Divine Beasts, they all had the power to change the fate of others.
The River of Time cannot restrain them, nor can the River of Fate. Therefore, is it not asking Belusir to declare war on all Divine Beasts? Is that even possible?
"I... then what should I actually do?"
Belusir showed a perplexed expression, and after being questioned by Feng Yuan like this, it also became confused. Had everything it had done all along been wrong? What exactly is its duty?
"Don’t let him lead you astray. You are just like Little Crocodile, maintaining the stability of fate. If they change the destiny of others, isn’t it possible that this was dictated by fate all along?"
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Veronia spoke irritably. It hadn’t expected even Little Crocodile to be swayed by Feng Yuan. Strictly speaking, isn’t Agunas also an entity that maintains the stability of the River of Time? But hasn’t that guy frequently helped Feng Yuan interfere with time? Moreover, Feng Yuan alone has caused significant tremors in the River of Time.
After all, time and space without Feng Yuan, being forcefully joined by such an individual, and with such power, were bound to differ from the original history. And as history changes, tremors will occur in the River of Time, yet Agunas seems to do nothing to preserve the original history.
Casting a glance at Veronia, Little Husky shook its ears helplessly and said
"You don’t understand, there is only one fate, no matter how many possibilities there are, the fate that ultimately emerges will be the only one. This is unlike the River of Time with its infinite possibilities."
"However, small fluctuations in the River of Fate, if you just ignore them, wouldn’t it be like before... don’t you feel lonely?"
"I..."
"Like before?"
Veronia looked at Little Husky curiously. Sometimes it really wanted to borrow that pitch-black Ancient Book to take a look. After all, that book records everything so thoroughly, including the secrets of Divine Beasts. But thinking it over, it’d better not. Not to mention whether Feng Yuan would agree, Agunas definitely wouldn’t let Feng Yuan do so. That book is of great importance, and it is well aware that the book cannot afford to be lost. It didn’t want to handle such troublesome matters itself.
"You really know everything... But, of course, it’s you..."
Looking at Little Husky, Belusir spoke with an indescribable expression, beginning to recount its experiences. In fact, there wasn’t anything overly complicated. Belusir wasn’t always as it is now; it used to be very close to humans. However, it always maintained the ability to peer into destiny, and destiny is always a mix of good and bad.
At first, it didn’t just warn its friends; it also tried to find solutions for them. Still, every time it changed destiny, the outcomes were not good. Varieties of accidents consistently extinguished what seemed to be glimmers of hope. Even later on, when it became somewhat disheartened and simply informed them of their future destinies, it couldn’t escape those outcomes.
Those who resist destiny ultimately face a backlash from it, while those who submit to destiny and let things be end up with the dismal fate that is shown to them. No matter what is done, there’s no glimpse of hope in sight. Despondent, it distanced itself from all friends and hid away in a place rarely trodden by anyone.
Only when there are anomalies in the River of Fate would it appear in the form of a white cat to secretly check on the situation.
Having listened to Belusir’s story, Agunas and Veronia remained silent. To Agunas, its approach was like incessantly prying into the future in search of an absolutely perfect one.
But this was impossible, which is why they never arbitrarily pried into the future; because peering too much into it would surely lead to troubles like those of Belusir.
Yet, if one does not peer into destiny, what then should Belusir do? Its duty is to maintain the River of Fate. However, unlike the River of Time, whether in importance or uniqueness, the River of Fate pales in comparison; even if left unattended, it’s unlikely that any issues would arise for quite some time.
"You really don’t need to keep looking into the fates of all beings. To be honest, I never thought such an approach similar to constantly looking into the future had any merit."
Little Husky said nonchalantly, flicking its tail, as it had been aware of this all along. After all, as a Divine Beast of the Fate Series, it would naturally have researched the relevant information. As long as the Divine Beasts of fate and time weren’t too rigid, it could play with peace of mind. Therefore, it took this matter quite seriously.
However, even though it was aware of Belusir’s issue, Little Husky had never considered actively seeking to help resolve it, believing more in fate. Besides, if it really had to interfere with everything, it feared there would be no time left for enjoyment.
Unless it was something Little Husky witnessed itself, it would not get involved, no matter how tragic the situation. With so much misfortune around, it simply didn’t have the time or see the necessity to care. Now that it had encountered Belusir, it was naturally prepared to have a serious talk with it, although what it ultimately decided to do was not within its control.
"You’re here? I found this nice; give it a try~"
At this moment, the black-haired youth holding a bag of snacks ran over to where Little Husky was and glanced at Long Boduo. Little Husky expressed its surprise,
"You finished eating that quickly?"
"There’s not much distinctive food here, too common... Not to my taste."
It’s not that there’s no food in the Netherworld; it’s just that it has grown tired of eating the same things. It wouldn’t waste time on something even less impressive than those foods, unless Feng Yuan recommended it—but he would not recommend that kind of thing to it either.
"Belusir? What are you doing here?"
Seeing the white cat, Long Boduo expressed his surprise. Unlike Agunas, because most of the River of Fate flowed through the Netherworld, he would occasionally encounter Belusir while patrolling the Netherworld. However, they weren’t really friends, merely familiar with each other. Even so, he knew that Belusir didn’t like visiting human settlements.
What was the reason again? Was it because those close to it would become unfortunate? Tsk, such a funny notion—as if he didn’t know what kind of Divine Beast Belusir is. A Divine Beast of the Fate Series is not a harbinger of doom; it doesn’t have any strange special powers. Moreover, they’re not like those special Spirit Beasts with uncontrollable negative traits.
But since Belusir believed so, Long Boduo didn’t bother to say more. However, why would it suddenly appear here?
Belusir responded softly, glancing at Long Boduo,
"You suddenly connected the Hongxi River to the River of Fate; of course I had to come and check, just in case you accidentally left behind any unresolved issues."
"Am I that careless?"
Scratching his head, Long Boduo was somewhat uncertain, but he knew Belusir meant no harm. Sometimes they indeed left behind troubles due to carelessness. Remembering Belusir’s usual habits, Long Boduo didn’t find it strange and sincerely expressed his gratitude. After all, if there was any trouble inadvertently left behind, it would indeed be problematic.
