The news about the Imperial People seizing relics from the Mythical Era quickly spread to every country, but the information was controlled and not fully disseminated, only those involved in combat were aware.
Because just this news alone could suggest that a difficult battle is imminent, and the challenge isn’t how to win, but how to protect more people in battle to avoid significant casualties.
On Feng Yuan’s side, although he temporarily stayed in Kui Shan Town for two days, the situation at Bian Shui Fort remained unchanged. After all, he just came over to lend a small hand due to the special circumstances here, and once the space stabilizes, he will definitely return.
As for what to do if the Imperial People launch a counterattack?
Normally, if they’re really planning a counterattack, two days is sufficient, and for anything longer... Feng Yuan indicated that they could make preparations here; don’t underestimate the power of the Mythological Remnants. Even if not all the devices are here, given time, she could entirely raise the current defenses several levels.
No way around it, ordinary people in the Mythical Era needed some skills to resist the Divine Beings and Divine Beasts; even though their tech grasp has fallen to less than one percent of what it originally was, it still can’t be compared to contemporary technology.
"She’s planning to increase the operating power of the entire device, you won’t interfere?"
Under the night sky, Feng Yuan sat absentmindedly outside the guesthouse door, gazing at the moon, his hand idly smoothing the feathers of Xiao Ji. Veronia egged him on from the side, glancing at her, Feng Yuan responded irritably,
"That thing isn’t always operating at full power, and without enhancement, it will drag the whole defensive line down. After all, if the opponent concentrates their force in an attack, Maomu City and I would have no choice but to take action."
Without these devices, perhaps we could resign ourselves to doing nothing, but given their presence, Feng Yuan can’t gamble that the Imperial People won’t launch an even more terrifying attack if they manage to seize them.
This makes Kui Shan Town a strategic vulnerability, at least compared to other places; attacking here forces Maomu City to carefully consider the consequences of abandoning it.
Therefore, Feng Yuan has to stay here temporarily because the previous battle left this space quite fragile, and if the enemy attacks again within two days, Long Boduo can’t quickly summon him from the Netherworld.
Of course, it can be said this way, having the Netherworld Passage ten minutes away isn’t an issue; Feng Yuan just doesn’t want the hassle.
Once the space stabilizes, Haitang’s device enhancement should be completed as well.
During this period, the person responsible for protecting Kui Shan Town is Xu Haitang, a Mythological Remnant from The Old World Continent untainted by sin. Her being sent here is for a straightforward reason.
The Old World Continent is gradually restoring order after early chaos. What they need to do now is establish diplomatic relations with other continents.
The Alliance was abandoned by them, or rather, amidst conflicting interests, the Alliance wasn’t a good choice, of course, on the premise they have other options.
Establishing diplomatic relations with member countries of the United Army is their current focus, especially since the United Army is planning to assault The Imperial Timeline, and their devices can provide support.
Moreover, it would be opportune to make good relations with the Divine Beasts behind the United Army, as even though Divine Beasts generally don’t interfere in human affairs, humans can’t ignore their opinions.
Kui Shan Town is their attempt in this regard, especially given the karmic ties this place has with them. Even though there are no longer many of their traces left in Kui Shan Town, it has still been chosen as a contact point.
As for directly dispatching envoys to the capitals of various nations? That’s currently not feasible, because as the war progresses, those crucial cities are in lockdown; even the Envoy from East Continent Great Xia needs to pass through multiple inspections to enter the Great Xia Capital.
Though The Old World Continent is unlikely to be enemies, the various nations currently don’t have the capacity to engage in many discussions at the national level.
When Feng Yuan first learned about these matters from Xu Haitang, his initial thought was, can those guys really manage The Old World Continent?
Given these arrangements, as Feng Yuan sees it, it’s riddled with flaws. If they truly want to attempt establishing contacts with various nations, what good does it do placing people in Kui Shan Town? Let alone other considerations.
One could say that from Feng Yuan’s perspective, this approach merely earns goodwill from him and Maomu City, but what use is that? Feng Yuan isn’t in a position to handle Great Xia’s affairs, and as for other member countries of the United Army, there’s no need to mention; Feng Yuan has no contact with them.
"Speaking of which, is this the style of those from the Mythical Era?"
Recalling this matter, Feng Yuan sighed helplessly. Veronia paused before reacting, chuckling softly, it said,
"In the Mythical Era, if you had strength, you could ignore various rules."
"Though later, during the joint operations, that was almost why they were ignored."
"Who would have thought, those who didn’t participate much in joint operations ended up being the last ones standing."
Sighing softly, Veronia didn’t expect the twist of fate, where those who acted unexpectedly ended up as the final winners, although calling it a win isn’t entirely accurate, considering...
"Tsk, are there any Divine Beasts skilled in political scheming? With their situation..."
"Do you think that’s possible?"
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Veronia responded somewhat speechlessly. The Divine Beasts during the Mythical Era were a different matter; after all, during that time, they did partake in managing nations. After the Mythical Era?
Such a thing is unlikely to happen, and even if it does, other Divine Beasts would certainly not allow it, as having a Divine Beast personally involved would leave no room for others.
"So what about the situation on The Old World Continent now?"
Sighing, Feng Yuan also realized it’s impossible for any Divine Beasts to excel in this, Veronia scoffed softly and said,
"They will have to find their own way, as humans are quite adept at finding a path in dire circumstances."
"But they need to have that ability."
With a helpless smile, Feng Yuan knew this thought was a bit naive, as for seeking help from humans on other continents?
That’s overthinking it. Not to mention whether the Mythological Remnants of The Old World Continent could accept it, if the other party has ulterior motives, that would be a sin. After much deliberation, Feng Yuan realized Veronia was right; they have to find their own way, provided they’ve noticed something amiss.
Feng Yuan decided he would remind Xu Haitang later, at least to not overlook the risks involved.
"Ah Chen, rest for now, in case a battle arises, we’ll need you to stand firm."
Deep in the night, Dou Yanlan, wearing a coat, spoke to Qi Chen by the campfire. Although they could set up a temporary camp, most Beastmasters didn’t see the necessity.
Based on Feng Yuan’s intelligence, Dou Yanlan explained the current situation to everyone. The common agreement was to ensure the City Defence Army gets as much rest as possible before the major battle arrived.
In other words, if necessary, they were even willing to volunteer for battle. Of course, they knew their strength was inadequate, but with enough numbers here, they could play a significant role in a night raid, even if just a distraction.
As for a full-scale battle breaking out at night, they deemed it unlikely. After all, the temple’s suppression hasn’t vanished, and the Imperial People couldn’t launch a consecutive attack, at least not conduct a large-scale troop deployment around Maomu City.
The Beastmasters who were repelled before are a concern, but not without solutions. Dou Yanlan still had the Mythical Transformation up her sleeve; if encountered again, she’d definitely choose to use it.
Because she knew that in the upcoming major battle, their impact would be minimal, and even with Mythical Transformation, it wouldn’t make much difference.
Using Mythical Transformation at this point isn’t too problematic, and Dou Yanlan is aware that for these two days, Feng Yuan’s been staying in Kui Shan Town, which, compared to Cha Mu Town, though farther, might still be within their patrol range.
Indeed, the entire area surrounding Maomu City, except for Cha Mu Town, is managed independently. Can’t be helped, with many towering mountains and dense forests in that region, Beastmasters from non-Cha Mu Town areas can only traverse pre-built roads, making effective patrolling impossible.
Other regions, however, have less and lower mountains, with much of the area resembling plains, making personnel placement easier to manage for patrols around Maomu City.
Being stationed in the suburbs close to the city can greatly enhance defensive capabilities, but ideally, battlefields should be kept away from one’s home, unlike Kui Shan Town, where battles become constrained.
Dou Yanlan wasn’t sure what would happen next, only hoping that the Imperial People’s attack wouldn’t break through their defenses, as behind the lines were their families...
