"Fusion transformation with a Spirit Beast? Hmm, theoretically it’s possible, but... don’t you think it’s strange?"
Feng Yuan glanced at Qi Chen and the others with a peculiar expression and said, if it were just a regular beast, it might be considered as wearing armor, but Spirit Beasts are different. While children might not realize it, they are all adults...
"Strange? Maybe..."
Qi Chen suddenly blushed at a thought, and after pondering for a moment, Dou Yanlan said
"It does feel a bit peculiar."
Although it’s not that serious, it indeed feels odd. However, if it could significantly enhance one’s power, Dou Yanlan believed it would have no negative impact, especially at times like this when having sufficient strength means being able to protect those you cherish.
"Hehe, let’s not dwell on it, or it might ruin your childhood. Hmm, let’s check out that side, it seems like it’s from a much earlier era."
Laughing foolishly, Feng Yuan immediately changed the topic, otherwise, Qi Chen might end up having nightmares.
Tamur glanced at Feng Yuan who swam aside. It had never considered fusion transformation, but it shouldn’t be that strange, right?
"That area features things popular during our parents’ youth, a hallmark of that era. Although my mom mentioned these from time to time, seeing them in person was rare."
Dou Yanlan said with a slight smile, seemingly unaffected by Feng Yuan’s earlier words. Unlike Qi Chen, she’s not easily swayed. Scratching his head, Qi Chen chuckled and said
"Let’s go check it out."
There is a clear divide between different eras. The period Qi Chen and his friends experienced during their childhood was the shortest. Regardless, they always prioritized the opinions of stronger Beastmasters.
Except for some special cases, the strength of a Beastmaster was closely related to age – the older, the stronger. It takes time to nurture beasts, not to mention the lengthy process to fully form a Beast Taming Contract.
This resulted in stronger Beastmasters generally being older, with only Divine Pact Makers being exceptions. However, in Maomu City, there’s only Yang Hongzhi, who doesn’t need those things, or rather, is close in age to Qi Chen and the others.
As for Feng Yuan, who despite not being a Divine Pact Maker, surpassed them due to undisclosed experiences, it wasn’t considered. They couldn’t figure out what Feng Yuan had been through.
Furthermore, the designs of these decorations focused on youthful vigor rather than mere childhood memories.
"That era was clearly still influenced by the World War."
Inspecting these decorations, Feng Yuan remarked, which wasn’t surprising. During Qi Chen’s parents’ youth, although it was decades after the anti-world invasion war, traces were not easily erased.
These traces are no longer visible today, but for them, they hold many memories. At least Feng Yuan and the others noticed people lingering in that area were mostly the age of Qi Chen’s parents.
"It’s quite evident, these designs, which could be used as weapons at any time, are quite unique."
Veronia examined those decorations and said, though the Department Store didn’t completely restore them, there was no need for decorations to transform into weapons. Just by appearance, one could discern their purpose.
None of these decorations were purely ornamental; every piece had a purpose.
This was characteristic of that era. The War against Outer World invasion was unlike the current World War, it directly targeted the Outer World invaders, and the intensity of the battles was far beyond what it is today.
Back then, no Divine Beast dared to hide; each participated in the fight, even the Divine Beasts like those led by Kastantos acted secretly.
No efforts spared, the invaders from the Outer World didn’t aim to occupy land, they only wreaked havoc and destruction, unlike the current Main World time-stream invaders attempting to seize territory, these were much more brutal.
"Is this the legendary Rampage Candy? Is it okay to sell it now?"
Seeing a candy wrapped in colorful paper, Dou Yanlan inquired curiously to a store clerk. The clerk smiled and said,
"Of course, it’s okay for you to buy it, madam. We sell them selectively, just be sure to place them out of children’s reach."
"Rampage Candy?"
Feng Yuan curiously stepped up and picked a candy with exaggerated designs. The packaging was simple, yet it sounded like a dangerous item?
"It’s something passed down from that era, made into candy due to frequent use. Essentially, it’s a special potion that temporarily boosts Beastmaster powers, but the transmission through Beastmasters is inefficient, hence it’s slowly phased out."
As Feng Yuan might not understand, Dou Yanlan explained. The store clerk didn’t find it strange, as Rampage Candy had been outdated for a long time, even disappearing in Qi Chen’s childhood.
Concerned about Feng Yuan’s possible misunderstanding, the clerk quickly explained: while the Rampage Candy retains its original taste, its medicinal effects have been drastically reduced.
The restriction to only Beastmasters is to maintain taste, requiring some Spiritual Medicine, which would cause overdoses in children.
"Hmm, that’s interesting. It first affects the Beastmaster, then transmits to the beast. Why does this type of potion seem uncommon now?"
Rubbing his chin, Feng Yuan expressed amazement, not expecting such a potion type. Normally, potions are directly given to beasts, rarely consumed by Beastmasters themselves.
Even with Taming Beast Contracts facilitating transmission, most of the medicinal effects are lost during transmission due to inefficiencies.
"The efficiency isn’t great; having Beastmasters take it is less effective than directly giving it to beasts. That’s why research in this direction was abandoned."
Qi Chen said, puzzled, glancing at Feng Yuan. How could this guy miss such a simple answer?
"Sure, but during intense combat, doesn’t it hold value as a substitute for dosing the beasts? Although it may not suit weaker Beastmasters, those with full Taming Beast Contracts should have strong physiques, and the potion should affect all their beasts simultaneously, right?"
Rubbing his chin, Feng Yuan inquired confusedly. Veronia rolled her eyes and said with a hint of exasperation
"You seem to forget about the drug’s side effects. It’s not a big deal for Spirit Beasts, but it’s a different story for humans. Without a life-or-death situation, why would anyone study this?"
The potion isn’t worthless, but its practical use is too limited. With better alternatives available, Veronia doesn’t see the value in continuing research on it.
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan chuckled, not dwelling on this issue, finding the novelty interesting, never having encountered a candy-like potion before.
In truth, he could guess the reason: the poor medicinal effect of the potion required mass usage, and candy form was more palatable than bitter medicine for large consumption.
Curious about the Rampage Candy, Feng Yuan bought a few as well. Dou Yanlan and the others didn’t pass up the chance, having never tasted it themselves, but they wanted to bring it back to their parents.
After all, only unemployed Beastmasters would wander here, ordinary people wouldn’t come near,
not due to safety concerns, but to avoid interfering with Beastmasters’ relaxation.
"The taste is quite unique, sweet but with a stronger medicinal flavor."
Feng Yuan threw one into his mouth and commented; as for the trace medicinal effect, it is negligible to Beastmasters and even more so to Feng Yuan. Observing Xiao Ji’s eager eyes, Feng Yuan chuckled, patting its head as he popped one into its mouth.
"Alright, this is just for fun, it doesn’t have any medicinal effect."
Despite the odd taste, Xiao Ji hesitated to spit it out, not because it liked the candy, but purely because it was given by Feng Yuan.
Seeing Xiao Ji’s discomfort, Feng Yuan said helplessly,
"If you don’t like it, just spit it out."
Averting its head, Xiao Ji ignored him. However, that action allowed Xiao Ji to notice a peculiar store and signaled Feng Yuan with its wings to look.
