Divine Beast Creator
Chapter 2127: Chapter 2128: Speculation and Connection
"Doing this will only provoke them. After all, they are Divine Beasts, and it’s impossible for them to easily agree to anything because of your pleas."
Seeing this, Dou Yanlan couldn’t stand it any longer and had to explain, letting out a cold snort. Veronia silently distanced herself from the crew member. Hearing Dou Yanlan’s explanation, the persistently pleading crew member was stunned.
He initially thought Veronia was a powerful Beastmaster with special abilities, but he didn’t expect her to actually be a Divine Beast.
But if that’s the case... what about the others...
"What exactly is happening? Just the appearance of Eviltooth Fish, is it really that scary?"
Qi Chen asked curiously and confusedly. He didn’t quite understand why these fish, which aren’t even Spirit Beasts, were so frightening.
With a bitter smile, the crew member sighed and said,
"Although we’ve sometimes thought that traveling in this dangerous place would eventually lead to trouble, we didn’t expect it to happen so soon..."
"Eviltooth Fish are not deadly in themselves, but... they can easily destroy the hull of a ship. Nothing can cross the Lake of No Return because of them; any ship will be bitten apart by them."
"That’s not necessarily so."
Remembering something, Feng Yuan casually mentioned. His Star Sea Warship, although not specifically designed to counter Eviltooth Fish, was a product of a high-rank world, and in this world, not to mention Eviltooth Fish, even Agunas would have to exert some effort to damage it.
Of course, even without mentioning such a severely non-compliant item, Feng Yuan believed there were materials in this world that the Eviltooth Fish couldn’t bite through.
After all, they’re not even Spirit Beasts; no matter how special, they have their limits.
Unless... they themselves are some sort of special secret Guardian, but is that possible? This Serene Forest Sea has existed since the dawn of human civilization, could it really hold any earth-shattering secrets?
Although Feng Yuan suspected there were materials that could withstand the bites of Eviltooth Fish, upon closer thought, those materials must not be cheap either. If Eviltooth Fish indeed run rampant on this route, the route between Lin Du and Lin Qiu would be as good as done for.
After all, instead of spending a great deal on sturdy ferries, Feng Yuan thought they might as well establish a sky route operated by Flying Spiritual Beasts.
As for the crew member’s plea for help, Feng Yuan understood the situation. Those daring to take the night ferry aren’t ordinary people; most of them are Beastmasters.
Therefore, even if the ferry is sunk by Eviltooth Fish, it’s not that dangerous. After all, they’re not on the open sea; the stream here isn’t wide, and if the ferry sinks, they can just run to the shore.
The real problem is the waiting time for rescue after reaching the shore. Since this route goes deep into the Serene Forest Sea, it’s safer thanks to the special protection along the route; but upon landing, it becomes hazardous for those people.
Be it night or day, Serene Forest Sea is not a friendly place.
The ferry passengers might not all have the capability to spend the night within the Serene Forest Sea, especially in its depths.
Realizing this, Feng Yuan touched his chin and said,
"It does seem a bit dangerous, but these Eviltooth Fish shouldn’t be that aggressive, at least not on this route. Otherwise, I don’t believe there wouldn’t have been Eviltooth Fish in the waters before, but... does straying from the course mean doom? Is this river like this from the start?"
"Obviously not, the Eviltooth Fish habitat is only the Lake of No Return, other than that place, there are no waters that can support them, even within the Serene Forest Sea."
"Why these fish suddenly appeared here, I have no idea."
Agunas wagged its tail and said helplessly, after all, it wasn’t omnipotent, and at least beyond the records, it wasn’t aware of everything.
Based on the ancient texts, Agunas could infer that the appearance of these Eviltooth Fish was peculiar; how did they adapt so quickly to the environment?
Moreover, why would the Eviltooth Fish, which only lived in the Lake of No Return, appear here?
"Geez, just my luck."
Sighing, Feng Yuan felt helplessly resigned. Though there were Divine Beasts related to luck, he had no intention of seeking their help, because if his luck was really problematic, clearly they couldn’t solve it.
Agunas flicked its tail and said,
"Perhaps it’s not just bad luck, have there been reports of shipwrecks recently?"
Although this route connecting Lin Du and Lin Qiu didn’t concern Agunas much, it decided to investigate a bit considering the situation of the Serene Forest Sea itself.
At the very least, it needed to find out what was really going on with these fish.
Feng Yuan looked at Agunas with surprise and said,
"Weren’t these fish just appearing today?"
"It’s hardly a coincidence, tracing the time back, the Eviltooth Fish should have appeared here a few days ago, and they indeed haven’t been living here before."
"Hmm, how about we directly see when and how the Eviltooth Fish came?"
Reminded by Agunas, Feng Yuan suddenly realized, although the Eviltooth Fish were special, they weren’t Spirit Beasts. Time tracing didn’t work on Spirit Beasts or humans, so usually, Agunas wouldn’t use this method to track Spirit Beasts’ origins.
But as for Eviltooth Fish, Agunas should be able to accurately replay their experiences through the power of time. That way, they would know how these fish appeared here.
"Shipwreck reports? We don’t have those, and even if something happened in other waters, the time is too short, the docks probably wouldn’t have reacted yet."
The crew member thought for a moment and said, as Dou Yanlan asked somewhat confusedly,
"Is the dock’s efficiency really that low?"
Glancing at Dou Yanlan, the crew member replied irritably,
"You don’t understand, those ships deviate from the safe route and navigate along waterways into the forest. Even if they encounter Eviltooth Fish, they can’t get out quickly. Even if they manage to leave the depths of the forest, it generally takes about half a month; this forest’s land routes aren’t as easy as you think."
"However, for an exploration trip here, shouldn’t they at least bring the newest communication equipment?"
Feng Yuan looked at the crew member in disbelief; he thought it’d be better to ask him than to get any valuable information.
Seeing Feng Yuan taking out a strangely shaped phone, the crew member mocked,
"Communications are down within the forest. Even if you have a phone, it’s useless. I wonder how they’re doing now..."
"Hehe~I’m in the Serene Forest Sea now, of course, I can’t just use the regular public lines to call you~ Oh right, do me a favor, I want to know a few things..."
Noticing Feng Yuan apparently speaking to someone through that phone, the crew member suspiciously eyed Feng Yuan. Was he acting? But what was the point?
Initially, Qi Chen didn’t quite understand Feng Yuan’s words either, but upon seeing him take out that peculiar phone, Qi Chen immediately realized.
Unlike before, the Alliance’s communication network couldn’t cover dangerous places like the Serene Forest Sea, meaning contact with the outside world was not easily established here.
But this didn’t mean that the Data Domain wasn’t covering it.
With the appearance of the Data Domain, the Alliance’s first move was to optimize, modify, and produce such special communication devices specifically for Beastmasters venturing into perilous areas.
With the aid of the Data Domain, these special communication devices can maintain communication nearly everywhere.
Qi Chen started to suspect the crew member; given the circumstances, shouldn’t these things be essential equipment for ferries? After all, constantly shuttling through the Serene Forest Sea, without communication before was understandable, but how could they not be equipped now that they could maintain contact?
"Alright, I’ll wait for your news."
Hanging up the call, Feng Yuan glanced at the terminal in his hand and said,
"Liao Yu said he’d help check the situation on the Lin Du side and inform them about the Eviltooth Fish, but it’s strange, no report at all about Eviltooth Fish appearing here?"
"Were you really talking to someone from the outside?"
The crew member looked at Feng Yuan in disbelief, unable to accept it. Shrugging, Feng Yuan replied,
"What else? Isn’t your ship equipped with devices that transmit information through the Data Domain?"
"Well... maybe the captain knows about this, oh right! The captain must be informed!"
Saying this, the crew member suddenly realized, the captain probably doesn’t know about the appearance of Eviltooth Fish!
