Chapter 2030: Chapter 2031: The Challenge Begins
In the end, Dou Yanlan and Qi Chen decided to challenge the limit. This was not only because it’s likely that only by challenging the limit can they see the Earth treasure, but also because the existence of the Crystal Domain gave them confidence.
"I think we should rest a bit first. If we rashly challenge the limit, we might end up having to make a move ourselves in the end."
Just as Qi Chen and the others were preparing to take action, Feng Yuan spoke up to stop them. Seeing Dou Yanlan still wanted to persist, Feng Yuan shook his head and said,
"The meaning of the Earth Maze is to give you training, but is it really good to pursue speed too much? After several consecutive areas, even if you are fine, look at them."
Xiao Ji walked over to Feng Yuan, shook its head to indicate that it could still fight, amusingly patted Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan pointed to the Hao Chun Bird and said,
"Even though the others have decent combat capabilities, you look at Hao Chun Bird and Ah Mu, even if it’s Cotton, they seem a bit low in spirit, don’t they?"
Cotton meowed once as if saying it was fine, but the others still looked somewhat listless, and Hao Chun Bird seemed half-awake. Dou Yanlan paused for a moment, then said,
"Sorry, I was too anxious."
"Actually, this underground maze isn’t without benefits. At least, in some sense, we aren’t affected by normal routine time."
Feng Yuan chuckled and said, because they were underground, the sense of time passing felt different than on the surface. In Feng Yuan’s view, they could completely rest first and then proceed with the challenge once they were sufficiently rejuvenated.
Dou Yanlan thought about it and eventually agreed to Feng Yuan’s suggestion. They camped on the plaza to rest for a while. Around 3 AM, Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan woke up, checked on Ah Mu and the others, and ensured their energy was mostly restored. Qi Chen then woke up Feng Yuan.
With a yawn, Feng Yuan rubbed his eyes and retreated to the side with Agunas and the others. Although he had slept for a long time, Feng Yuan still felt very sleepy, mainly because the chances of unexpected incidents here were quite low.
No need to worry about everyone’s safety; Feng Yuan idly took out his phone while Dou Yanlan and Qi Chen prepared and activated the Stele.
Golden thunder startled Feng Yuan, who was playing with his phone. The golden lightning circled the field’s edges, and a light brown barrier enveloped the battle area. However, this spherical barrier was quite large. Normally, spherical barriers are generally in a hemispherical form, but this spherical barrier’s intersection with the ground was positioned at the lower third of the sphere.
As a result, a lot of space was left open air, allowing Xiao Ji and Hao Chun Bird to fly in the sky without worrying about being forced to stand on the ground to fight because of the barrier.
The pile of stones unsurprisingly came alive, and those stone giants formed from the rocks moved towards Xiao Ji and the others. Hao Chun Bird boldly chirped, activating the Forest Domain.
With the Forest Domain expanding, the earth-yellow glow flowing over the rock giants dimmed instantly. The stones comprising the rock giants shrank in size, and even in terms of momentum, Feng Yuan could perceive that the aura of the giant rock instantly dropped a notch.
Feng Yuan didn’t find it surprising at all, after all, it would be incredible if the environment here did not enhance the stone men. It’s just that the original designers probably didn’t anticipate the emergence of the Crystal Domain, which directly allowed a field ultimate move originally mastered by only a few Spirit Beasts to become something all Spirit Beasts could use.
Of course, compared to the Crystal Domain, the field ultimate moves of Spirit Beasts cannot be directly compared. As moves that sacrifice certain abilities, the primary difference with these unique field ultimate moves is that they are not overridden.
Unless a special ultimate move is used to eliminate them, if a field ultimate move is expanded once, expanding a different field ultimate move within the same range would cause a clash. At this point, whoever uses more power, their field will be retained.
However, generally speaking, Spirit Beasts that master field ultimate moves can only be used as support, and they can’t do much once they expand the field, so the incidence of these field Spirit Beasts in battles is relatively low.
The designers deliberately left this loophole perhaps to balance those students who choose field Spirit Beasts. But no one expected a phenomenon like the Crystal Domain to appear in the future.
While Feng Yuan was daydreaming, Ah Mu and the others had already engaged with the rock giants. Ah Mu charged ahead, using Wood Element ultimate moves to enhance its defense, physically blocking three advancing rock giants.
Behind, Xiao Ji flapped its wings, the Netherworld Wind blew again. This time, Xiao Ji altered the effect of the Netherworld Wind with its ability.
Unlike the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, which stubbornly approached the rock giant with claws, Xiao Ji adjusted the Netherworld Wind to add Decay Power, which caused no small damage to the rock giant.
Unfortunately, though the rock giant had various life reactions, it ultimately wasn’t a living creature. Thus, conventional soul damage from the Death Series was ineffective against them, making things difficult for the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound.
Not only did the rock giants have high physical resistance, but they also had high resistance to flames. Throughout their journey, Fluffy Fire Wolfhound found itself constantly being targeted.
In contrast, Ah Mu’s wood attribute ultimate move attacks dealt considerable damage, but Ah Mu relies on its size to exert high lethality. Against these rock giants with extremely high physical resistance, the damage Ah Mu’s ultimate move could inflict wasn’t much higher than Xiao Ji’s.
Hao Chun Bird perched atop the Amu Tree Crown and began to sing. In Hao Chun Bird’s singing, green light spots condensed out of thin air and entered Ah Mu and the others’ bodies.
"Hmm, continuous healing and replenishing energy? Coupled with the recovery effect of the Forest Domain, tsk, this seems like a battle that’ll drag on for a long time."
Feng Yuan muttered while stroking his chin. Although he didn’t know Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan’s thoughts, looking at the current situation, it seemed like this would drag on for quite some time.
Obviously, unless Ah Mu and the others used their special powerful ultimate moves, they couldn’t easily resolve these rock giants quickly. But from the start, using big moves, Feng Yuan doubted if they’d manage to win later.
"Perhaps, however... Xiao Ji seems to be playing tricks again."
Veronia sniffled lightly, glancing at Xiao Ji. At this moment, not only Xiao Ji but even Ah Mu took advantage of the engagement to release a special ultimate move, gathering Wood Power to float slices of willow leaves down from the sky. Xiao Ji flew overhead as if readying to use some unique ultimate move.
Hao Chun Bird continued its chanting, and Fluffy Fire Wolfhound also plunged into battling with the rock giants. Unfortunately, Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s attacks mainly consisted of flames and physical attacks, which are attributes the rock giants have high resistance to.
Cotton meowed, flicked its tail, and clusters of white clouds gathered in the sky, drizzle falling down from above, yet the rain dropped like strong acid on the rock giants, with white steam rising from the contact points.
"Acidic Rain weakening physical resistance? Hmm, it’s viable, but what is Xiao Ji up to?"
Puzzled, Feng Yuan studied Xiao Ji, unsure of its intentions. At that moment, Xiao Ji sharply widened its eyes, flapped its wings with a resonant cry, the wind surged, the drifting willow leaves turned into flying blades that furiously struck the rock giants.
Apart from the initial slicing damage, these willow leaf blades exploded upon contacting the rock giants, triggering residual wood energy to inflict considerable wood attribute energy damage on the rock giants.
Fluffy Fire Wolfhound seized the chance provided by the Acidic Rain’s weakening to constantly swipe its claws at the rock giants, the rain weakened the sturdy rocks, allowing Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s each attack to fracture many stones.
Having reached this point, neither Xiao Ji nor the others deployed stronger tactics. Feng Yuan didn’t see any issues with this, as evidently, the first batch of rock giants was just appetizers. If they went all out now, they might not be able to continue till the end.
Moreover, what surprised him was Cotton already mastering the Acidic Rain ultimate move. Despite it seemed effective against the rock giants, this ultimate move specialized in weakening material armor.
If faced with an energy defense barrier like the Rune Stone Barrier, Acidic Rain would be almost ineffective, lacking inherent damage capabilities—making its learning priority typically low.
Glancing at Cotton, Feng Yuan speculated that Dou Yanlan probably invested considerable effort to ensure Cotton mastered these ultimate moves. As for the goals...
"Dedicated support... This really doesn’t seem like you."
Muttering, Feng Yuan shakingly dismissed his thoughts, unable to guess Dou Yanlan’s true intentions. Rather than focusing on that, it better to watch Xiao Ji and the others’ performance.
