In the end, Фэн Юань gave up the idea of using Divine Sense to investigate the "river bottom". To him, it wasn’t something important. Besides, if he really wanted to know, he could just ask when they arrive at Cloud Crossing Village, right?
Now, Фэн Юань was a little curious about the name of Cloud Crossing Village. Could the "cloud crossing" refer to crossing the Mist River?
Of course, there might be other reasons for the name. But once they got there, all questions would eventually be answered.
Putting the Магма Бэби back on the ground and bidding it farewell, the group continued along the stone path. Rounding a curve, an old village appeared before them.
Unlike the two villages Фэн Юань and his group had passed through, whether it be Половина-Mountain Stronghold or Грот-Rock Village, both preserved their original appearances due to their unique geographical locations.
The village ahead was different. From a distance, one could see many cement buildings that didn’t belong to traditional wooden structures. But it wasn’t surprising, since compared to traditional wooden structures, cement buildings had their own advantages, especially in a location like Cloud Crossing Village where wooden structures didn’t insulate as well as cement ones.
"Indeed, there hasn’t been any tourism development here."
Looking at the village with a mixture of new and old structures, Фэн Юань couldn’t help but sigh. Ци Чэнь glanced at him and said,
"Should we go over there?"
"Of course, we have to take a look~ After all, they’re not hostile to outsiders, and who knows, they might have some local specialties for sale~"
Resting his hand on the head of the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, Фэн Юань said. According to the service staff, Cloud Crossing Village’s annual income was not as good as Грот-Rock Village’s, which was understandable. With the support of the Магма Бэби and Магма Канал, along with the unique specialty of Fire Spirit Mushroom, Грот-Rock Village naturally had higher revenue.
But this didn’t mean Cloud Crossing Village was really bad. The spectacle of the Mist River alone could bring them a lot of unique Spiritual Medicine and Materials. However, in terms of quality, it might not compare to the specialties of Грот-Rock Village.
There was no other option; this was just a unique spectacle caused by the excess energy from the Магма Канал. Not to mention the various energies mixed within it, even in terms of intensity, it didn’t compare to Грот-Rock Village.
However, they were still slightly better than villages with no unique specialties at all. At the very least, the unique Spiritual Medicine and Materials born out of the Mist River spectacle were still theirs, although Фэн Юань wasn’t sure about their effects. Maybe they were good as condiments?
Thinking of those special seasonings made with Половина-Spirit Medicine, Фэн Юань quickened his pace a little. After all, these things were quite good.
A group of elderly women chatting under the big trees outside the village noticed Фэн Юань and his group coming along the mountain path and started discussing them.
They were already used to seeing tourists pop up from time to time, especially since many outdoor streamers had started visiting, making the women even less interested.
But Фэн Юань’s group was a bit special. After all, those streamers usually seemed older than them, and the number of Духовные звери following Фэн Юань was more, which made people wonder if they were just ordinary tourists.
Dou Yanlan quickly stepped forward and greeted the group of elderly women. Normally, Dou Yanlan wasn’t one to initiate conversations, but this time Ци Чэнь and Фэн Юань realized that Dou Yanlan wasn’t lacking in capability.
Soon, under the enthusiastic greeting of the elderly women, Dou Yanlan waved the others forward.
"There have been more tourists visiting Cloud Crossing Village lately, but most of them are camping on that hillside over there. I suspect they might be outdoor streamers."
"If you want to stay overnight here, we’ll likely have to camp on that hillside as they do. There are no accommodations here."
Entering the village, Dou Yanlan quickly shared the information she had gathered with the group. In fact, this information wasn’t too different from what they had expected.
Since Cloud Crossing Village hadn’t developed much in terms of tourism, there weren’t any facilities for travelers, which is why those livestreamers had to camp outside the village.
It couldn’t be helped; even if the villagers didn’t mind, they couldn’t possibly let people pitch tents on the roads.
Cloud Crossing Village didn’t have any plazas within either. To them, such places would be a waste of space in the village.
Due to the mix of new and old buildings in Cloud Crossing Village, Фэн Юань and his group didn’t explore the village. Dou Yanlan proactively obtained quite a bit of information this time.
Among which was the origin of Cloud Crossing Village’s name.
As they had speculated, the name Cloud Crossing Village indeed originated from the Mist River spectacle, which could appear at least a third of the year. Naturally, their crossing referred to the Mist River.
On their way here, the village they saw on the "opposite bank" was also called Cloud Crossing Village, or rather, the entire Cloud Crossing Village was divided into East Village and West Village. They were currently in East Village, and what they saw before was West Village.
Only by combining the two villages could it be called a complete Cloud Crossing Village. As for traveling between the two villages, it relied on the flying Духовные звери they raised.
Even in the Dynasty Era when Духовные звери were scarce, Cloud Crossing Village had a good number of flying Духовные звери capable of carrying people.
Other than that, there were also specialized Cloud Ferries. These were wooden boats that required the help of several flying Духовные звери to cross the Mist River.
There was nothing particularly special about the Cloud Ferry, as they relied on flying Духовные звери. The boat appearance was just for safety and aesthetics.
As long as there were Духовные звери carrying it, even a sturdy bedboard wasn’t much different from a Cloud Ferry.
Before a bridge was built, Cloud Crossing Village bore the responsibility of facilitating communication between several nearby villages, especially due to the Mist River spectacle. Without Cloud Crossing Village, the villages on both sides of the Mist River wouldn’t be able to communicate during the spectacle.
However, things have changed now. The existence of bridges and newly built roads has made Cloud Crossing Village less critical than before.
Of course, for the few nearby villages, detouring through Cloud Crossing Village could still save some travel time.
Standing on the Cloud Crossing Platform provided a different view than on the mountain path, imbuing the rolling clouds with an ancient feeling, as if witnessing that long and peaceful past.
Now, unlike before, people no longer needed to rely on Cloud Crossing Village to travel back and forth, so there weren’t as many people guarding the Cloud Crossing Platform. Only the familiar villagers knew where to find someone to help them cross the Mist River.
As for ignoring the mist and just following the mountain path?
Cloud Crossing Village indeed had a stone road leading directly down the mountain and extending to the other Cloud Crossing Village. But during the Mist River spectacle, entering the mist zone wasn’t the right choice.
Although the Mist River spectacle was harmless, the internal energy could still affect humans. Even weaker Духовные звери would be harmed after prolonged exposure in the Mist River. Even for a Fire Wolf Dog like a Fire Attribute Духовный зверь, the outcome would be the same.
Of course, the stone road was used to cross the Mist River when necessary, like in urgent situations when the village’s flying Духовные звери weren’t available or couldn’t fly for various reasons. The stone road allowed for a forced crossing.
After all, the energy inside the Mist River only slowly eroded causing harm. The real trouble was the extremely low visibility within the Mist River.
Even with the stone road as a relatively obvious landmark, one could still easily get lost in the thick mist.
But nowadays, the stone road doesn’t hold the same significance as before, given the growing number of modern flying Духовные звери, eliminating the need for forced Mist River crossings, and rendering the stone road unnecessary.
Yet, the locals still inspect and repair the stone road during intervals in the Mist River spectacle, even if it won’t be used anymore.
Admiring the view from the Cloud Crossing Platform for a while, Фэн Юань looked towards Cotton and asked,
"Wouldn’t it be fun to have a spin on the Mist River with Nether Cross?"
"Are you serious?"
Ци Чэнь looked at Фэн Юань, exasperated. This guy, was he trying to cause trouble?
With a silly laugh, Фэн Юань rested his hand on Xiao Ji’s head. Just then, Xiao Ji let out a sound, and Veronia glanced at Фэн Юань and said,
"It took you seriously."
"Took what seriously?"
Фэн Юань was a bit puzzled. He didn’t quite understand what Veronia meant by "it took it seriously."
