"Perhaps? After all, in the Mythical Era, the rank disparity brought by power was more severe than in the so-called Dynasty Era. But isn’t this actually a good thing for you?"
Veronia looked playfully at Фэн Юань, who scratched his head and chuckled without saying anything. If there were indeed many loopholes, taking action himself would certainly be much more convenient, at least not having to worry about the impact of linked mechanisms.
While Фэн Юань and his group were advancing on the Trial of Conscience, Agunas had also reached the Rock Peak Treasury entrance. At this moment, the entrance was enveloped in a mysterious glowing barrier, and the soldiers stationed nearby were anxiously requesting assistance from their superiors.
Agunas, who arrived invisibly, flipped through the book in his hand and sighed to himself,
"Knowledge granted by the Heavenly God... who are you, really? And what is your true purpose?"
"Unexpectedly, this Trial of Conscience actually has such an effect. Tsk, now it’s hard to say whether this place is good or bad."
Looking at Ци Чэнь and the others whose expressions had slightly changed after passing through those Stone Rings, Фэн Юань couldn’t help but remark. Unlike Фэн Юань, who had many memories he didn’t want to recall, Ци Чэнь and his group obviously had their spiritual power enhanced significantly after going through this Trial of Conscience. Was this the effect of honing the mind, or was it a capability inherent in the Trial of Conscience? Фэн Юань wasn’t sure, but he couldn’t easily say whether this mechanism was punitive or a blessing.
"Forget it, let’s keep going. But besides the Trial of Conscience, what strange things are waiting for us ahead?"
Shaking his head, not thinking about it anymore, Фэн Юань took the lead and walked forward, while curiously asking. Veronia replied helplessly,
"I don’t know about that. After all, I’m not from Kastantos. But perhaps ahead lies another Indestructible Battle Statue?"
"Though not meant to kill, being underpowered will still lead to an immediate tragic end? This is truly a troublesome place."
With a sigh, Фэн Юань believed Veronia wasn’t lying. After all, it was unlikely she knew much about this place.
After successfully dismantling several mechanisms in succession, looking at the stone wall ahead, Фэн Юань thought of something and said,
"This thing seems to be a special setup?"
"It results in instant death for non-Kastantos people, but as it’s built by the Golden Feather Dynasty, the specifics are hard to say."
Veronia smiled slightly and said, this treasury naturally wouldn’t be without any deadly traps, after all, it’s a place that stores treasures. However, according to Kastantos’ methods, apart from the high-ranked Divine Beings, others, even those native to Kastantos, cannot be considered people ’of Kastantos.’
This sort of design was evidently impossible even in the Dynasty Era, yet in the Mythical Era, it was commonplace. Furthermore, if a Divine Being’s descendant was not a Divine Being, their name could be stripped, and they would be expelled from the register, not acknowledged as kin.
This was even more unacceptable in the Dynasty Era, so Veronia was unclear whether any alterations had been made to this setup. Of course, if they had the ability to change it, it likely meant the identification would rely on other traits, which Veronia didn’t quite understand either.
"Can’t take that risk..."
Looking at that stone wall, Фэн Юань rubbed his chin and said helplessly. Although he wasn’t afraid of those chaotic mechanisms, Ци Чэнь and the others couldn’t handle it. Facing Mythical Era mechanisms, Фэн Юань couldn’t guarantee he could absolutely protect them, let alone the possibility of affecting other teams which would be a bigger hassle.
Such identity-recognition mechanisms clearly wouldn’t leave any loopholes. Perhaps this might just be the most dangerous system in the Rock Peak Treasury.
"Wait, this place seems... You protect them for me, let me check below."
Having sensed something, Фэн Юань glanced at Ци Чэнь and the others and said to Veronia, who seemed to sense something as well,
"So that’s it, the core is below here, is it? Fine, I’ll protect them for you, but you should be careful. If the Rock Peak Treasury is a perfect restoration of its original design, there could be plenty of traps waiting for you at the core."
"Understood."
Patting Xiao Ji’s back, Фэн Юань said, pulling out the Dark Ancient Book, grasping the Black Sickle, and rushing to the edge of the platform before jumping down. The black cloud sea with lightning swallowed Фэн Юань’s figure. Xiao Ji hurriedly chased after him, and Ци Чэнь and the others had no time to stop Фэн Юань’s action. Seeing him jump, Ци Чэнь said helplessly,
"This guy, can’t he be less impulsive?"
"Perhaps it’s his confidence? Alright, don’t go near the edge. If you fall, you won’t have his ability."
Veronia said, glancing at Ци Чэнь and the others who were near the platform’s edge. They had rushed to the edge, attempting to stop Фэн Юань. Now that they couldn’t, they could only return to the stone wall to wait.
Descending along the black cloud sea, the environment around Фэн Юань gave him a sensation of diving into the Deep Sea. However, with Фэн Юань’s strength, the powerful surrounding energy wasn’t enough to threaten him. Casually pulling the eagle-shaped Xiao Ji into his embrace, Фэн Юань supported a barrier while observing the surroundings.
Xiao Ji nestled in his arms, slightly moving its tail feathers. The energy around was a significant threat to it, yet Фэн Юань wasn’t concerned and instead invited it along, which made Xiao Ji quite happy.
Gently falling, surrounded by pitch-black cloud clusters, space and time seemed to vanish here. The surroundings held nothing but surging dark clouds and lightning. Фэн Юань allowed gravity to pull him swiftly downwards until, at a certain moment, he suddenly spread his wings and hovered.
"Found it~"
An expression of triumph crossed his face as crimson chains emanated from the Dark Ancient Book in Фэн Юань’s hand, fiercely striking a cloud mass, breaking the space to reveal a bright yellow interior. In that instant, lightning, having completed its accumulation in a flash, struck Фэн Юань.
Unfortunately, these attacks were of no use to Фэн Юань whatsoever. On the contrary, due to its energy gathering for this attack, Фэн Юань managed to detect the energy flow source and located the core space.
Several gigantic Stone Rings of varying sizes surrounded a bright yellow light sphere, rotating slowly. This space was much like where Фэн Юань was previously inside the Rock Peak Treasury.
Beneath his feet roiled a bright yellow cloud sea, while a translucent sky-blue screen served as the ground of this boundless space. Standing on this surface, Фэн Юань felt as though he was stepping on glass.
Xiao Ji curiously surveyed the surroundings, not struggling to break free from Фэн Юань’s embrace. It knew well the dangers of this place, difficult even for it to handle. If not for not wanting Фэн Юань out of its sight for too long, it probably wouldn’t have come along.
"Is this the core? No control module, or perhaps a special control method is used?"
Realizing that the light sphere emitting massive energy was indeed the core of the Rock Peak Treasury, Фэн Юань murmured. This setup apparently couldn’t control the entire treasury’s operations. Could the Rock Peak Treasury operate with a non-core control defense system? If so, that’d be troublesome.
Thinking so, Фэн Юань unhesitatingly sent his Divine Sense into the core. Although troublesome, he could only expand his Divine Sense, following the energy flow to obtain a complete operating procedure of the Rock Peak Treasury.
Unfortunately, as only the Trial of Conscience was currently active, the data Фэн Юань could retrieve with Divine Sense was limited to the Trial of Conscience material. Nevertheless, this was enough for him to disarm the Trial of Conscience mechanisms.
By interfering with Divine Sense, Фэн Юань simultaneously condensed a Trial of Conscience access pass. Holding this pass would ensure the Trial of Conscience didn’t trigger any mechanisms, remaining merely as a passage.
The dark clouds gradually reverted to bright yellow, the storm seemingly having subsided. Ци Чэнь and the others noticed the stone wall suddenly quietly descending, and ahead, the stone path was transforming back to how it looked when they first set foot on the Trial of Conscience.
"Seems he succeeded, but did he gain control of the Rock Peak Treasury?"
Veronia murmured, watching the converging paths ahead, while Фэн Юань’s voice sounded from behind her,
"No, this place employs non-core defensive measures, with each defensive structure operating independently. Although I can destroy the core energy sources, however..."
"Doing so would erase the treasures, though you did acquire the Trial of Conscience control, right?"
Smiling faintly, Veronia looked at Фэн Юань, who shrugged and said,
"Not quite, but I did make an access pass. Let’s go, let’s join up with the others. The ones outside are probably waiting anxiously."
