In the border area, even after calm was restored, the number of patrol teams hadn’t decreased. In fact, compared to before, it still hadn’t retreated from a wartime status, and could even be described as heavily guarded.
The officer in charge of the border command post was reviewing all the reported information. To prevent another sneak attack like before, they now had to review and investigate a great deal of information.
"Укротители зверей secretly crossing the border have increased significantly compared to before. What do they think?"
Placing the document down, the officer looked at the communications officer beside him, who hesitated before saying,
"They can’t determine whether it’s an act of abnormal behavior by the enemy country, because currently, the only connection is those rampant illegal Духовный зверь capturing organizations from a while back, but..."
"That’s too far-fetched. Border checks aren’t a problem for them at all, and there’s no need for them to attract attention with such acts."
That grand wave of cracking down on illegal Духовный зверь capturing organizations was naturally well known to their border defenses. After the previous sneak attack by Xingchan, they didn’t dare to easily let any piece of information slip by.
But the leaders behind those organizations were not weak. If they wanted to, avoiding border checks was as simple as could be.
Although he couldn’t figure it out, he still ordered people to pay attention, even questioning those who crossed the border multiple times to avoid missing any information.
At Maomu Academy, having just finished a Potion class, Фэн Юань was holding Xiao Ji and trying to find Yang Hongzhi. Xiao Ji, uncomfortable being held, struggled free from Фэн Юань’s embrace. Seeing that it really didn’t like it, Фэн Юань set Xiao Ji down and joked,
"You’ve finally grown up, no longer need me to hold you, huh?"
Looking at Фэн Юань, Xiao Ji wore a conflicted expression and laughed heartily. Фэн Юань patted Xiao Ji’s head and said,
"Just kidding. Alright, let’s go, let’s find Hongzhi, and this time, see if you can compete against Xiao Hei and the others."
Hearing Фэн Юань’s words, both Xiao Ji and Agunas were taken aback. They really hadn’t expected Фэн Юань to have such a peculiar idea. But battling Xiao Hui and Xiao Hei?
With Xiao Hui, there might be an issue, since it was Yang Hongzhi’s earliest beast, and even if it was only one rank higher than Xiao Ji, it wasn’t someone Xiao Ji could easily defeat. As for Xiao Hei?
They’re both Духовные звери of Good Level. If Xiao Ji couldn’t beat it, there’d be an issue. Moreover, Xiao Hei’s training time didn’t match Xiao Hui’s. Even with all of Yang Hongzhi’s training, Xiao Ji should still be able to fairly easily defeat it.
Seeing Xiao Ji’s excited expression, Фэн Юань patted Xiao Ji’s head and said,
"What do you think? Want to give it a try?"
Nodding, Xiao Ji let out an excited cry, clearly eager for this.
Remembering something, Agunas looked at Фэн Юань with curiosity and asked,
"Did you mention this to Yang Hongzhi?"
"Of course~ Not~ This is a surprise after all~ To be honest, today’s class ended too early, I just wanted to go find him for fun."
Seeing Agunas and Xiao Ji staring at him like that, Фэн Юань scratched his head awkwardly and said. Waving its tail, Agunas glanced at Фэн Юань and said helplessly,
"With that approach, you might find nothing. Not to mention whether he has classes, how do you know if he’s currently on a team mission or training for the Укротитель зверей competition?"
Yang Hongzhi doesn’t have as many classes as Фэн Юань and the others. Correspondingly, their school task requirements are much higher than those for newcomers. Every semester has a minimum task completion count, and failing to meet it would result in the same outcome as failing exams at the end of the semester.
So, at this time, it’s quite possible Yang Hongzhi isn’t at school and is out performing tasks with a team. Even though he’s a Divine Pact Maker, and even though he’s to participate in a regional Укротитель зверей competition, he still has to complete the academy’s assignments as prescribed.
With a smirk, Фэн Юань said gloatingly,
"So I’m smarter, getting tasks from the Special Duty Team beforehand. With that, single tasks have high values, and it’s quicker to finish~"
Rolling its eyes, Agunas couldn’t be bothered to refute him. Few could replicate what this guy was doing because the Special Duty Team wouldn’t assign tasks to the academy daily. Only he with special credentials could do something like this.
Others didn’t have the capability to proactively accept tasks from the Special Duty Team. Relying on the support tasks sent to the academy by the Special Duty Team couldn’t satisfy their needs.
Ци Чэнь and Dou Yanlan exited the classroom and saw Tan Xueluo speaking with Zhang Cheng. They exchanged a curious glance. After a while, Zhang Cheng waved goodbye and left, and Ци Чэнь stepped forward curiously asking,
"Фэн Юань wasn’t with you?"
"Him? I haven’t seen him."
Startled, Tan Xueluo looked at Ци Чэнь and couldn’t help but smile and said,
"Do you think there’s something between me and him? That’s impossible. Although we get along, he... seems to be afraid of something, so being a normal friend is okay, but further than that, seems unlikely."
At the end, Tan Xueluo shook her head, unconcerned about these things. Although Фэн Юань and she got along, if she was truly to find a boyfriend, she might not choose him because, in her sense, the distance between them felt immensely vast. She could also perceive Фэн Юань’s attempt to evade emotional matters.
Listening to Tan Xueluo’s words, Ци Чэнь awkwardly laughed, and Dou Yanlan chuckled softly and said,
"We seem a bit too invested in his affairs."
"Haha, so you say, but... sigh."
Tan Xueluo sighed, secretly wishing to be like Фэн Юань. Although his relationship with many classmates is average, he has Ци Чэнь and Dou Yanlan, two friends who genuinely care for him, even if their focus on him was somewhat strange.
Thinking about herself... Tan Xueluo’s mood became a bit downcast.
Upon noticing this, they quickly comforted her, and as for what she was just talking to Zhang Cheng about, they didn’t ask since their relationship wasn’t that close.
"You were right, he’s out on a mission. So now... what to do?"
Putting away his phone, Фэн Юань showed a peculiar smile, and as for training Xiao Ji? It wasn’t necessary, or rather not urgent. Фэн Юань had been watching its training over the past few days, and while there was progress, Xiao Ji didn’t quite get whether it was effective.
Originally, he wanted Xiao Ji to try things out in the previous class, but it devolved into total chaos, where usually no energy control was required, just launching wide-reaching ultimate moves would suffice.
Since there were multiple enemies, penetrating defenses naturally favored broader strikes, with precise strikes offering little advantage.
Seeing Xiao Ji’s disappointment, Фэн Юань pondered whether to take it to a training ground where there’d likely be opponents.
But... knowing Фэн Юань, Agunas saw his pensive look, whipped its tail, and said,
"Why don’t you go see what Veronia is up to?"
"Didn’t it say it was going to explore the back hills with new friends today?"
Recalling what Veronia said before leaving home today, Фэн Юань couldn’t help but mention it. He was happy Veronia was making new friends at the academy, as sticking with him wasn’t ideal.
As for Agunas? The entity following him was a clone. Though during a skirmish it might pull out some books, it still differed from the main body, so Фэн Юань could recognize it.
Фэн Юань speculated Agunas’s main body wouldn’t always be working and might even go see Drudgeon. Remembering what Drudgeon mentioned prior, he couldn’t help but give Agunas a look. Noticing this peculiar gaze, Agunas curiously asked,
"What’s with you?"
"Nothing, really! Hehe, how’s Drudgeon doing lately?"
With a curious smile on his face, Фэн Юань addressed Agunas, who was momentarily stunned before reflexively replying,
"It seems to be helping He Nanqing improve the living environment of the Fire Stronghold, as some aspects aren’t quite suitable for modern habitation."
After all, those are ancient structures, and even though blessed by many Божественный зверьs... thinking this, Agunas suddenly realized and felt its face flush, exasperated,
"Why are you asking about that!"
"Obviously just curious to see if you’ve been secretly watching~ Seems like..."
With a strange smile, Фэн Юань glanced at Agunas and said, turning away, Agunas blushed and stayed silent.
