The booming sound rose, and a turtle with a small sapling on its back was blasted into the air. Xiao Ji seized the opportunity and quickly used Flame Storm on it. However, the sapling turtle adjusted its posture in mid-air and directly released a lush green Barrier. Struck by the Flame Storm, the sapling turtle flew backward at an even faster speed.
Landing steadily on the ground, the sapling turtle panted and looked up at the flying Xiao Ji. By now, the dense black fog had thinned, rendering only a slight hindrance to visibility, but it did not prevent them from locating Xiao Ji’s position.
Before the sapling turtle could do anything, Xiao Ji glanced in the direction where Feng Yuan was and shrieked. Seeing Xiao Ji land behind him, Feng Yuan turned his head in slight surprise and the Black Longbow in his hand reverted into a small shield. The nine small shields in his hand combined to form a huge black shield.
Pleased, Xiao Ji nodded his head as a ghostly blue flame ignited on its body. It seemed like the flame was charging, continuously contracting. Witnessing this scene, the boy squinted and swiftly commanded the sapling turtle to attack, although he had no idea what Ultimate Move Xiao Ji was using.
But he knew, he must not let it be released. A common Ultimate Move could already cause such great destruction, let alone one that has been charged. He feared its power might even surpass Feng Yuan’s arrow shot earlier. Though aware that victory was unlikely, he still hoped to hold on for a bit longer under Feng Yuan’s hand.
"This way is blocked~"
Smiling, Feng Yuan planted the giant shield into the ground at an angle. The sharp rocks that hit the black giant shield flew into the sky obliquely. Touching the black giant shield with his fingertip, a Rune glimmered across the vast black shield, which once again blocked the attack and flowed with a trace of dark light.
A demoness-like phantom emerged from the black shield, wailing. The sapling turtle and the boy felt as if their heads had been smashed by a blunt object. Their ongoing Ultimate Move was interrupted in an instant. By the time they recovered, Feng Yuan was smiling lightly, touching the black giant shield.
With his movement, the black giant shield disassembled into nine small shields, which revolved around Feng Yuan. Xiao Ji spread his wings and with a fierce shake, soared into the sky, with the ghostly blue flames compressing into twinkling starlights on its feathers.
Ignoring the opposing barriers and barriers being released, Xiao Ji did a flip in the air and with a sweep of its wings, the ghostly blue starlights flew from its feathers and gathered in the air into a ghostly blue feather. This feather was identical to Xiao Ji’s own feathers, except it was the color of the ghostly blue flames.
A powerful pressure locked onto the sapling turtle, who, intending to dodge, was forced to resist the slowly drifting ghostly blue feather head-on. With each bit of proximity, the pressure intensified. The boy wanted to block it for the sapling turtle but realized that in doing so, he would be exploiting the rules set by his opponent for his advantage. Eventually, he gave up, too scornful to resort to such measures here.
Without any sound, the ghostly blue flames instantly engulfed the position of the sapling turtle. The barriers and Barriers failed to last even a second against the rampaging ghostly blue flames, which burst forth rapidly and dissipated just as quickly. After a short while, all that remained was the burnt form of the sapling turtle.
Sighing, Agunas fluttered into the arena and waved a small paw, summoning the Rain of Life to descend upon the sapling turtle, rapidly Healing its burns. Normally, as a Death Series flame, the ghostly blue flames wouldn’t have such a strong physical burning effect. However, the flames had been compressed multiple times by Xiao Ji, resulting in significantly increased potency. Even so, physical burns weren’t the most troublesome issue.
Seeing Agunas look his way, Feng Yuan scratched his head and transformed a small shield into the appearance of a Scepter with a wave, summoning a pale blue stream scattered with twinkling starlight from the void, which slowly enveloped the sapling turtle. It took quite a while before the pale blue stream disappeared.
The sapling turtle struggled to its feet, seemingly still uncomfortable, but soon shook itself and regained its lively appearance. Looking at Xiao Ji by Feng Yuan’s side, the sapling turtle was somewhat puzzled; it had not expected that the black Eagle-shaped Spirit Beast would possess such terrifying power.
"No lingering effects?"
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Agunas asked. The trickiest part of Xiao Ji’s move was the damage it did to the spirit. After all, a part of Death Series Ultimate Moves were designed to harm the soul. Shaking his head, Feng Yuan stroked Xiao Ji’s head and said,
"No, I wouldn’t go that far. I wouldn’t leave such aftereffects in a mentoring match."
At this moment, the teachers in the chairman’s stand began to comment on the battle that had just taken place. Pointing out many flaws in the sapling turtle and the boy’s performance, the boy nodded and took out a small notebook he carried with him to jot down these points.
But when it came to Feng Yuan’s turn, things were different. They didn’t know how to comment on the battle they had just witnessed. Shortcomings? There were moves used by Xiao Ji that even they couldn’t comprehend, let alone that none of them specialized in Death Series Beast Training. They felt it wasn’t appropriate to give one-sided guidance.
It wasn’t just about losing face; they also didn’t want their limited understanding to influence others’ training of Beast Tamers. They wouldn’t assume their own notions were definitely correct, especially when they were not familiar with the Death Series at all.
In the end, it was Feng Yuan who voiced that he didn’t need guidance. He merely chatted with them casually for a while, which relieved them greatly. Otherwise, they wouldn’t know what to do. Would they really have to force themselves to comment on something they weren’t confident about?
"No wonder you chose Maomu Academy."
Zhong Liuyan said somewhat amusedly to Feng Yuan. Apart from Feng Yuan, Veronia was the only one who greatly puzzled those teachers. Unlike Feng Yuan, Veronia did not let the teachers off so easily. Had it not been for Agunas stepping in, everyone was certain Veronia would have made those teachers lose face.
Now that the guidance match was over, everyone was resting in the relaxation area, with many changing back from the hotel-provided temporary combat attire into their original formal wear. Of course, there were also those who, confident in their own strength much like Feng Yuan, did not bother changing at all.
Glancing at Zhong Liuyan, Feng Yuan smiled and said
"Of course. What could Shangjing Academy possibly teach me? Besides, I am more familiar with Maomu City; after all, I’ve lived here for three years. Isn’t it nice to go to school close to home?~"
"Close to home... Congratulations."
With a happy smile, Zhong Liuyan congratulated Feng Yuan sincerely. Having been classmates for three years, she knew Feng Yuan’s situation well. Now that he had a home in Maomu City, it must be a very happy thing for him, right?
"Hehe~ what’s there to congratulate me on? But about you, why aren’t you with Pei Yu?"
"Him? He’s helping me deal with those... guests."
Zhong Liuyan hesitated for a moment before uttering the word ’guests’. Feng Yuan understood as well; this banquet wasn’t just for inviting Zhong Liuyan’s friends. Those whom she disliked were probably on the invitation list as well, which was something Feng Yuan didn’t particularly enjoy about clans. However, he didn’t harbor too much aversion toward it.
"Then you go on and keep busy. I’m going to grab a bite to eat~"
Noticing Zhong Liuyan’s gaze sweeping around from time to time, Feng Yuan said with a slight smile, and with a nod, Zhong Liuyan turned to greet other classmates and personally invited guests. Watching busy Zhong Liuyan, Feng Yuan shook his head slightly. He chuckled softly and patted Xiao Ji’s head saying
"Let’s go, let’s grab something to eat. You must be hungry too, right?"
Feng Yuan was somewhat surprised that Pei Yu would deal with those disliked guests for Zhong Liuyan, as they were likely offspring from large clans whose attitudes towards ordinary people were clear from how they had treated Qi Chen and others before. Dealing with those people would not be a pleasant experience. However, Feng Yuan felt somewhat pleased that Pei Yu would do that.
After all, he was also unsure about the eventual outcome between Pei Yu and Zhong Liuyan. But looking at the current situation, it seemed to be quite good. Humming a cheerful tune, Feng Yuan led Xiao Ji to the banquet table, eyeing the food there. Before long, he began to eat as if no one else was around. As for the others, his classmates wouldn’t say anything since they were already familiar with Feng Yuan’s ways, while the scions from families, aware of Feng Yuan’s strength, didn’t dare to show any dissatisfaction.
