"You seem so eager to explore this city, could it be that there’s some secret?"
Following behind Feng Yuan, Delong Tower curiously pursued, Liao Yu would rather stay with Queen Hua Xiao to get first-hand information, but he didn’t have the courage to stay among a bunch of Divine Beasts if Feng Yuan left. Though they wouldn’t do anything particularly terrible to him, what if those Divine Beasts got tired and wanted to have some fun with him?
Turning his head to look at Delong Tower, Feng Yuan said somewhat helplessly,
"I’m just curious, after all, an entity space suddenly appeared in the Data Domain, aren’t you curious?"
"Entity space?"
Delong Tower looked around somewhat puzzled; although it seemed not much different from the real world, upon closer inspection, he could still recognize that it was a virtual space made of data unique to the Data Domain. What does this have to do with entities?
"That’s just an analogy. The previous virtual spaces had no natural destructive effects; they only had pre-set destructive effects that would manifest when certain things were destroyed."
As he spoke, Feng Yuan picked a leaf and casually tore it, observing the leaf which looked hardly different from one being torn in the real world, Delong Tower seemed to understand something, the black flames ignited in his hand and the leaf disintegrated into sky-blue tiny squares in the black flames.
"That’s the difference, if there were no preset destruction effects, those leaves would just dissipate like the last one did, rather than truly being torn."
Shrugging, Feng Yuan spoke, and after thinking for a while, Delong Tower said,
"But still, this is merely an advancement in simulating the real world, nothing special about it."
"This entire area is like this, and it’s naturally generated, aren’t you curious what It intends to do by making such an effort?"
With a mysterious smile, Feng Yuan casually spoke, pausing in place to think for a while, Delong Tower moved towards where Feng Yuan had walked a long distance ahead and said,
"Maybe this isn’t Its masterpiece?"
"It’s hard to say, but this place seems a bit too deliberate."
Shaking his head, Feng Yuan was also somewhat unsure, if the previous areas could naturally emerge, then the past Maomu City area seemed too peculiar, perfectly recreating the objects, environment, and habits of that time, which is not generally easy. As for naturally forming? That might fool others, but both Feng Yuan and those Divine Beasts knew it was impossible.
However, Delong Tower had not been to the past Maomu City area, so he did not know this situation, otherwise he wouldn’t be puzzled.
"This plant maze really is huge."
Seeing that they had walked so long and still hadn’t covered half the distance, Feng Yuan sighed, as for speeding up? They did not have a Spirit Beast similar to a mount to accelerate. Xiao Ji indeed could fly, but areas above the shrub wall height were completely inaccessible, and low-altitude flight, not to mention if Xiao Ji could carry someone, whether it would crash into walls was another matter.
Anyway, Feng Yuan had never seen Xiao Ji practicing long-duration low-altitude flight; low-altitude flight is difficult to use diving power to cause substantial damage, which is useless for Xiao Ji who seeks attack capabilities, and during previous battles, it never really used low-altitude flying skills.
As for Big Cat? Better not, although Big Cat could now barely fly at low altitude, Feng Yuan seriously doubted whether, if he became Little Husky and hung on Big Cat, it would struggle to balance and crash into walls just like before. After all, during this time together, Feng Yuan really hadn’t seen Big Cat fly much.
"Strange, why is there such a long sky bridge in this spot?"
Seeing the wooden staircase extending towards the sky ahead, Feng Yuan said somewhat puzzledly, looking at the map, Feng Yuan could confirm that it should be a sky bridge looping around a square, but, why would such a thing appear?
Ah Mu seemed to sense something and scratched the canopy somewhat puzzledly. As Ah Mu moved, the leaves on its crown rustled, Qi Chen turned his head to look at Ah Mu and asked,
"What’s up? Is there a problem?"
"It seems to have sensed something strange; what exactly is this place?"
Glancing at Ah Mu, Agunas said somewhat helplessly. Those abnormal Flower Buds are one thing, but why are there strange things here too? What is the purpose of this area?
"I don’t know, but..."
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan spoke with confusion. However, after climbing the stairs and seeing the giant tree beneath the aerial corridor, Feng Yuan was surprised but understood what this area was for.
"What is that?!"
Agunas looked at the giant tree below and was briefly stunned, speaking with surprise. Although the tree was huge, it didn’t seem to be a Spirit Beast—at least, he didn’t sense the presence of a Spirit Beast. But to say it isn’t a life form doesn’t seem right either; that giant tree contained immense life force, which if placed within a Spirit Beast, would likely be at least of Legendary Level power.
"Domain guard, and it’s semi-corporeal."
After observing the giant tree for a while, Feng Yuan figured out the situation. This giant tree must be the guardian of this area. As for why it didn’t react to them, that’s normal too; apart from the Divine Beasts that came over just now, and Queen Hua Xiao and others who are also Data Lineage Spirit Beasts, under normal circumstances, they would not trigger the guard’s alert.
Since Feng Yuan and others received identity cards before, this place is still considered part of Data Maomu City’s territory. If there were no blockades before, then this place likely wouldn’t refuse humans with valid identities through. Although Feng Yuan considered letting someone without an identity card come to check if the defense mechanism would be triggered, he quickly abandoned the idea.
This giant tree can clearly monitor the entire area, and its strength might be Legendary Level. If activated, Feng Yuan doubts if a person without an identity card could withstand its attack.
"Domain guard?"
Agunas looked at the giant tree; at this moment, apart from its massive size, there was nothing particularly remarkable about it. There were no limbs or anything resembling a living face.
"Exactly, no wonder it looks like a maze, this place really is a maze with a BOSS in it."
Feng Yuan said with a chuckle. He had been puzzled by the situation here before, wondering why there was such a huge plant maze. It turns out, this is actually a security zone...
Wait, why is there a security zone here? Startled for a moment, Feng Yuan felt strangely. Normally, areas set up with guards are meant to form battlefronts, suggesting that this area could be poised for combat. But then, where would the combat in the Data Domain come from?
"It feels a bit strange, why does this area exist?"
Agunas, flicking his tail, spoke with confusion. Although he didn’t know the purpose of this area, he sensed something was off. After all, this should just be a part of the city, but why does it seem like it’s geared entirely toward combat?
"What exactly is here? Why does it need guarding?"
Liao Yu asked with some confusion, noticing something was off. This area seemed to be protecting something, but what could be so valuable? And where is that thing?
"I don’t know, but the guard here... kinda feels like a frontline type."
"Frontline?"
"Simply put, this guard gives me the feeling that it is configured to prevent enemy sneak attacks from behind the frontline in a war, but..."
Speaking, Feng Yuan shook his head. This city is just a data city in the Data Domain, one of the primary characteristics of which is that non-living materials can easily be restored after destruction, as its destruction just reduces it to basic building particles. The recombination of those particles doesn’t consume any resources.
This is why when Big Cat and others were playing games, they could change things arbitrarily. Whether it is combining or removing, it doesn’t consume the Data Domain itself, unless one destroys that piece of space, otherwise, any changes don’t have much impact.
Therefore, it’s unlikely to be acting this way to protect buildings. So, what exactly is this guardian protecting? Feng Yuan didn’t think it was some kind of treasure.
