"Phew~ Finally finished~"
Stretching lazily, Feng Yuan excitedly said, and the waiter who was specially helping him wash the photos also breathed a sigh of relief. There was no helping it—after running back and forth so many times, thankfully Feng Yuan had finally wrapped up, otherwise, they would have needed someone else to take over the task.
Feeling the stack of photos filling the space, Lorna showed a blissful smile, but that smile was fleeting and didn’t stay long on her face.
Veronia noticed Lorna’s transient smile and was a bit suspicious, but after a moment, she stopped dwelling on it. This crappy place was genuinely not somewhere she wanted to continue staying in, as the environment was somewhat unbearable. Luckily, Feng Yuan was aware of Veronia’s discomfort and quickly left the floor where Golden Manor was located with Xiao Ji and the rest.
In the elevator lobby, they happened to meet classmates who had come for a visit. After a brief exchange, the two groups parted ways again. Watching Feng Yuan enter the elevator, Chen Xin, standing in the wheat field, clenched her skirt tightly. Yue Bai lifted his head, looking at Chen Xin with a puzzled face, then nuzzled her head with his after a short while, seemingly trying to comfort her.
"We... after all..."
Uttering quietly as if wanting to say something, but it turned into a sigh of resignation. Lanadi may not know Feng Yuan’s true origins, but... maybe she had a better chance than herself? Remembering that bet, Chen Xin cheered herself up and walked into the elevator lobby with Yue Bai.
"Hehe~ I said my intuition wasn’t wrong, at least we should take a group photo, right?~"
A robust hand suddenly grabbed Chen Xin’s hand, which was about to press the elevator button. Hearing that familiar voice, Chen Xin’s face blushed slightly, stealing a glance at Xiao Ji and the others emerging from the emergency exit, while Qi Chen silently watched Feng Yuan, her expression speechless. This guy...despite claiming it was impossible verbally, yet he did such a thing—could it be he intended to create a misunderstanding?
"Haha~ We are classmates after all, so taking a group photo isn’t that big of a deal, is it? It’s just a photo, nothing serious, right? Don’t misunderstand, we’re just good friends, the regular kind."
Chuckling, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said, while Veronia glanced at Feng Yuan and said,
"Then why didn’t you plan to take a group photo with those classmates just now?"
"They weren’t hiding in the wheat field secretly watching us just now, and hey, little fox, don’t cause any trouble. Between her and me, really... it’s not very likely."
While speaking, Feng Yuan suddenly bent down to vigorously ruffle Yue Bai’s fluffy head. Sensing his fur getting tousled by Feng Yuan, Yue Bai, who initially wanted to create an opportunity for Chen Xin, whined in dissatisfaction at Feng Yuan. With a light chuckle, Chen Xin knelt down to smooth Yue Bai’s fur on his head. As for Feng Yuan’s reminder, although it was a bit inconsiderate, she knew there was nothing wrong with what he did.
After all, Feng Yuan’s sudden appearance did indeed make her overthink things. However... with a sigh, Chen Xin let Feng Yuan drag her back to the wheat field. Watching Feng Yuan beckoning Qi Chen and the others to come over for a group photo, Chen Xin realized that he probably really just saw her as an ordinary friend.
"The banquet is about to start, should we prepare a gift?"
As time was nearing the start of the evening banquet, Feng Yuan looked at the guests registering in the hall and asked Dou Yanlan, who after some thought shook her head and said,
"It’s better not to."
Not to mention that Zhong Liuyan had already stated in the class group chat not to bring gifts, but now, she hadn’t seen any other classmates preparing gifts either. It was a no-win situation. They were all ordinary people, and the gifts they could give weren’t worth much. If it were just their classmates, it might have been fine, but there were also many family descendants mixed in here. The gifts they could bring to the table just couldn’t compare.
Of course, Feng Yuan was an exception. What he could offer wasn’t just impressive for the Zhang Family of Shangjing, but even the upper echelons of the Alliance might be tempted. Nonetheless, there was no need for that. After all, Feng Yuan was one of their classmates. If he gave a gift, what were the others supposed to do?
"Alright, then let’s give it to her during the class event."
Understanding Dou Yanlan’s concerns, Feng Yuan scratched his head and said, indeed he had prepared a gift for Zhong Liuyan, but this moment was indeed not the best time to present it. Even if Zhong Liuyan wouldn’t check the gifts on the spot, those descendants from the families were always looking for a chance to confront his classmates.
At this time, as long as he didn’t give a gift, the others would have a reason not to as well. After all, nobody would believe that Feng Yuan didn’t have a gift worthy to present; his relationship with the Divine Beasts was so close that anything he brought out would naturally be far superior to what they could offer as gifts.
"Speaking of which, Guo Huai actually doesn’t plan to come over."
Looking at the message in the class group on his phone, Feng Yuan said, and he wasn’t particularly surprised by this. After all, Guo Huai didn’t have much contact with most of their classmates. He was only in their class for one semester, so there wasn’t much of a deep connection. Moreover, Feng Yuan knew that Guo Huai must be busy practicing his new Potion formulations at this time.
He wondered whether Guo Huai still caused explosions when making Potions, thought Feng Yuan, full of malicious amusement.
"He’s not familiar with Zhong Liuyan, or rather, his relations with most people are quite general. It’s curious how he could get along with you so well."
Looking at Feng Yuan, Qi Chen said somewhat puzzled. It’s not that he found anything wrong with either Feng Yuan or Guo Huai, but he just found it strange. After all, during these three years, there were only a few friends that Feng Yuan kept in class, and he barely interacted with anyone else.
Yet, it was this person who actually managed to get along with Guo Huai, who had only joined their class for one semester, which really puzzled him.
"Hehe~ It’s called hitting it off~"
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan casually blurted out, while Agunas swished its tail, understanding the reasons. One was that Feng Yuan had taken Guo Huai to wander around the Dynasty Era for a while, where they had experienced quite a few things. Another reason was that both he and Guo Huai came from the same world, and naturally, there would be a sense of camaraderie when fellow countrymen meet in a foreign place.
However, Agunas wouldn’t go around spreading this, as it was better to keep the origins of both Feng Yuan and Guo Huai confidential. If this was known to others, no one knew what could happen, and perhaps Nierlat might use this as an excuse to forbid Feng Yuan from getting involved in this war.
"Why are you all here? Hurry up and enter, the banquet is about to start."
At this moment, Zhong Liuyan noticed Feng Yuan and the others standing by watching the commotion and approached, saying as she straightened her uniform. Feng Yuan asked,
"Is it open seating or...?"
"There will be waiters at the entrance to guide you to your seats."
Following the waiter to his seat, all along the way Feng Yuan received many surprised stares. After all, Feng Yuan was wearing a captain’s uniform, which to most people looked like he was from the military.
Although everyone knew that the official military dress uniform was not in the same style as the uniform Feng Yuan was wearing, it was also not something that could just be worn casually. At least in such an occasion, it was not appropriate to wear the military’s standard dress uniform.
During events like this, many in the military would wear uniforms similar to the official ones to attend banquets. Of course, while there was no strict rule that only military personnel could dress this way, it was rare for ordinary people to choose this style. Basically, only those in the military or those who had come from the military took an interest in this style of dress.
Therefore, they found it very strange: why would a person resembling military personnel be guided to a corner? Right, Zhong Liuyan knew that Feng Yuan didn’t like mingling with people, so she had specially chosen a corner seat for him. This made most people find it odd. At this time, Liao Yu, who was in charge of security, saw this and remembered Feng Yuan’s particular situation.
Shaking his head, Liao Yu didn’t plan to say anything. After all, it wasn’t a big deal, and who knew what Feng Yuan was thinking? If Liao Yu tampered with his arrangements and got on Feng Yuan’s bad side, that could be disastrous.
"They have seats as well?"
Seeing the waiter guiding Xiao Ji and the others to sit on the chairs, Feng Yuan asked in surprise, to which the waiter replied with a smile,
"Yes, this table has been arranged this way. No other guests will be directed here, so you can rest assured."
Hearing the waiter’s words, Feng Yuan immediately understood that this was something especially arranged by Zhong Liuyan. Dou Yanlan glanced at the classmates seated at a nearby table but didn’t say anything. At this moment, everyone dared not speak up because there were quite a few notables attending.
