The Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps was the largest mercenary organization in the Western Domain. Its members were spread throughout the region, and its power was immense. It was said that with its outer and core members combined, its numbers reached over ten thousand.
They were countless times more powerful than the average Noble Families.
A clan like the Tang Family, where Tang Yi was from, stood no chance against such a behemoth. Only a Major Sect like the Purple Cloud Sect, where Shangguan Siyu was from, could reliably suppress them.
In the eyes of the world, the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps was a righteous force, dedicated to punishing the wicked and helping the weak. Their reputation was excellent.
But what the world didn’t know was that the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps had a Light Department and a Dark Department.
The Light Department specialized in building a good reputation and punishing criminals, while the Dark Department specialized in handling matters that couldn’t be resolved openly, such as disputes over benefits or seizing Cultivation Resources.
Occasionally, they would also take on side jobs. As long as it was something shady, the Dark Department would handle it.
You could say that while the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps appeared to be a force for justice on the surface, in private they raped, pillaged, and committed every evil imaginable. They were a group of villains hiding under the protection of a shining reputation.
And Li Kuang, as well as the five people who came to support him, were all members of the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps’ Dark Department.
This was also why someone as irredeemably evil as Li Kuang had a Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps insignia—because he was a direct member of the Dark Department.
In the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps, members wore different colored Martial Artist Robes according to their strength and Position.
In ascending order, they were White Robes, Gray Robes, Silver Robes, Golden Robes, Purple Robes, Black Robes, and Five-Colored Robes.
White Robes were generally outer members, possessing the strength of a Battle Master.
Gray Robes were also outer members, but a Martial Artist who could wear a Gray Robe had already reached the Level of a Battle Grandmaster.
Silver Robes were already at the Level of core members. Their strength ranged from the peak of a Battle Grandmaster to a Battle Spirit, and they held a certain Position.
The higher up the ranks, the higher their Position and the greater their strength.
It was rumored that members of the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps who wore the Five-Colored Robe possessed the strength of a Battle Lord, capable of leveling a mountain with a wave of their hand. Their Position was sublime, but no one knew if this was True or not.
And this time, those who came to support Li Kuang included four Gray Robes and one Silver Robe.
In other words, all five of them possessed strength at or above the Battle Grandmaster Level!
The one wearing the Silver Robe was a middle-aged man named Zhangg Yuxi. His strength had reached the Level of a Nine-star Battle Grandmaster. He was just a step away from advancing to Battle Spirit, and his power was terrifying.
After Tang Yi used his Celestial Eye Technique to check the identities and Levels of these people, he couldn’t help but frown and secretly contemplate his strategy.
Zhangg Yuxi led the four Gray Robes to Li Kuang’s side. He glanced around before disdainfully retracting his gaze.
In his eyes, no one present posed the slightest threat, including Tang Yi, who was not far away.
Tang Yi wasn’t exuding any aura, so in Zhangg Yuxi’s eyes, he was just an ordinary young man.
After assessing the power balance of everyone present, Zhangg Yuxi relaxed considerably. ’This time’s prey should be in the bag,’ he thought. ’There won’t be any trouble.’
Immediately after, Zhangg Yuxi’s gaze fell upon Liuu Tian, and he once again inspected this time’s prey.
A satisfied expression appeared on Zhangg Yuxi’s face. He turned his head and said to Li Kuang in praise, "Li Kuang, this time’s prey is quite good. You did very well. I’m very satisfied."
"Thank you for the praise, Brother Zhangg. To be able to satisfy Brother Zhangg is this humble one’s honor!" Li Kuang was delighted and replied respectfully.
"Rest assured, after this is done, you’ll get your reward. When you go back, you can claim a Profound Tier Upper Grade Cultivation Technique," Zhangg Yuxi promised with a smile.
"Thank you for your gift, Brother Zhangg!"
Upon hearing this, Li Kuang was overjoyed. He hadn’t expected to actually receive a Profound Tier Upper Grade Cultivation Technique as a reward this time. He knew that the Cultivation Technique he currently practiced was only Profound Tier Lower Grade. If he switched to a Profound Tier Upper Grade one, his strength would surely more than double!
"A bunch of despicable villains!" Liuu Tian glared angrily at Li Kuang, Zhangg Yuxi, and the others. She spoke coldly, her expression growing even darker.
"Go on, curse all you want. It won’t be long before you don’t have the strength to curse anymore," Li Kuang said with a smug smile.
"Hahaha!"
Hearing Li Kuang’s words, the few Gray Robe Martial Artists behind Zhangg Yuxi also burst into laughter. Even Zhangg Yuxi’s lips curled into an inscrutable smile.
"You!" Liuu Tian pointed at Li Kuang, too enraged to speak. Intense anger seemed to erupt from the top of her head.
The members of the Nine Cities Mercenary Corps were also furious. Li Kuang’s insults toward their leader made their expressions turn ugly. However, they were outmatched. They were no match for Li Kuang and his men. Attacking rashly would only hasten their own demise, so they could only glare in silence, gritting their teeth.
"Leader Liuu, perhaps you didn’t know, but the mission your Nine Cities Mercenary Corps accepted was actually posted by us," Li Kuang said, his words shocking.
"What!" Liuu Tian was horrified, her large eyes widening in utter astonishment.
The mission they had accepted was to kill or capture Li Kuang. The reward was handsome, and the difficulty wasn’t particularly high, yet it had been posted at the Mercenary Union for nearly two months.
When she accepted it, Liuu Tian had only seen the high reward and hadn’t thought much more about it.
’I can’t believe it was posted by Li Kuang himself.’
’Was the purpose to lure prey into a trap?’
’And I walked right into their trap?’
’No wonder... no wonder. The Mercenary Union is full of talented people, yet this mission was posted for two months and no one completed it. It was a complete trap from the start.’
Realizing this, Liuu Tian was filled with immense self-blame. As a leader, she had failed to fulfill her duties. Not only had she failed to protect the lives of her corps members, but she had also led them into the enemy’s trap.
In the next moment, her remaining members would face the threat of death. Even she herself might have to endure some inhumane treatment. It was an utterly tragic situation.
"Surprising, isn’t it? The previous few batches of Mercenaries who took this mission had the same expression you do now. But don’t you worry, Leader Liuu. As long as your people put down their weapons and surrender, I’ll leave them with intact corpses," Li Kuang said smugly, as if trying to drive Liuu Tian further into despair.
"You! Sigh..." Liuu Tian’s face turned ashen, her heart filled with utter despair. Besides Li Kuang, the men before her all seemed to have the strength of Battle Grandmasters. With only the power of their Nine Cities Mercenary Corps, they couldn’t possibly escape from their grasp. The only thing she could do now was pray for some peerless hero to appear and save them from this inferno.
However, that was just a fantasy. The Wind Moon Forest was desolate and uninhabited. At night, who would come here? And who would come to save them?
For some reason, Liuu Tian’s gaze suddenly shifted toward Tang Yi.
’Could this young man be their savior?’
