On Ijo went alone to the 100th floor to save his younger brother. On Jurim disobeyed orders and came down.
There’s a lot of talk about it, but the full story has never been revealed.
He never talks about why he came down from the 99th floor. But something must’ve happened between him and On Ijo.
In any case, the fact that he survived without going to the 100th floor—and the interviews he gave after coming back down—
That’s why On Jurim got absolutely slammed with criticism
Of course, there were plenty of people defending him too.
Even with that messed-up attitude, On Jurim could never go against On Ijo.
On Ijo was the one who trained him.
Now that ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) On Ijo’s gone, it’s like the leash is off.
Either way, with On Ijo, the top of humanity, and On Jurim, a first-generation survivor, the Korean Hunter industry kept climbing.
Summary:
On Ijo.
Once humanity’s strongest.
Hand over your internal energy.
“Thanks for the explanation, but why are first-gens considered the real deal? Second-generation Hunters are more famous now.”
Of course they are, idiot. Who do you think gets more fame, soldiers or celebrities? Back then, regular people didn’t even know what Hunters were doing in the Tower. All they saw was the post-raid interviews. If anything made it to TV, it was just some training footage—and even that was classified, so they barely showed anything.
Back then, the sense of urgency people had was about on par with “The glaciers are melting, the polar bears are dying, sea levels will rise in five years.”
Articles about clearing the 60th floor got buried, while cheating celebrity couples were getting 600,000 signatures on petitions for the death penalty.
Actually... that hasn’t changed much.
Remember when Don’t Look Up came out? That movie flopped too. And they even called it modern art.
There are still tons of idiots who think the Tower is part of some American conspiracy.
Probably the same people who think the Earth is flat.
Why does On Jurim get so much hate?
I’m genuinely curious.
Here’s your answer.
YouTube video:
“On Jurim’s Flaming Mouth – Rude Question vs. Rude Answer: A Legendary Moment”
Reporter: This is Kim Jinseop from the Saturday News. I’d like to follow up on the 99th floor. You mentioned earlier that the turning point happened there. But you yourself made it back without any critical injuries. Wasn’t there another choice you could have made to save more people? I’d like to hear what you did to protect your teammates.
Jurim listened to the entire question with a bored face.
He tapped his thigh lightly with his long fingers, then lifted the corner of his mouth the moment the question ended.
On Jurim: “The idea is cliché, but the intent is so blatant it’s actually kind of funny. Well, as you asked, I suppose there might have been a better option. Everyone probably had their own circumstances. And now that they’re not here, it’s not something I can really speak on from just the survivor’s perspective.”
He tilted his head to the side, then pointed upward with his finger.
On Jurim: “So if I get the chance, I’ll give you a full answer next time—after I gather their perspectives in the afterlife. Next question, please.”
The video ended with the sound of shutters clicking nonstop as the reporter stood frozen, dumbfounded.
Other videos:
“On Jurim’s Flaming Mouth – ‘I didn’t kill the team, so why ask me?’”
“Jurim yawns during press conference”
“‘Tell me why I should carry the grief of the bereaved’ – On Jurim”
“‘Just because we were on the same team doesn’t mean we were on the same level’”
“Jurim doesn’t hold back – Compilation of On Jurim’s most brutal moments”
Don’t misunderstand. The reporters twisted it to farm views. If you read the full transcript, a lot of the nuance is different. Most of it was malicious editing.
On Jurim’s actually pretty nice in private...
Dragging up a five-year-old video just to stir shit. No matter how much you hate him, he was humanity’s top hunter.
Let me guess—you’re in his fangirl club? Your “Jurim-oppa” really does have a trash personality, no point pretending otherwise.
As expected of On Jurim. Drives both fans and haters absolutely insane.
Look at the comment count. It’s insane.
Still, he’s a national hero, right? Gotta admit that.
Is On Jurim’s family from Doan Construction?
Video preview:
“Investigative Journal ON – The Construction Tycoon Who Sent Two Sons into the Tower”
Is this really about On Jurim’s family?
Are the rumors about privilege true?
Yes.
On Jurim’s family owns Doan Construction. And yes, every one of those special privilege rumors is true.
To explain a bit more...
After the Cataclysm hit and everything got wrecked, the construction industry entered an unprecedented boom.
Back then, Doan Construction had recklessly expanded the size of the company—and nearly collapsed under the weight of it. According to people close to the situation, they were on the brink of bankruptcy. Then suddenly, funding came through.
That money, it turned out, came from the South Korean government.
According to Investigative Journal ON at the time, the level of government support Doan received was basically equivalent to a bombing run.
Practically every public infrastructure project was handed to Doan. After the Cataclysm, the scale of construction contracts was beyond comprehension—and Doan took them all.
On top of that, regulations were lifted, permits were approved without delay... According to interviews from the time, there was an academic consensus: “If the name ‘Doan’ was on it, it would pass no matter what.”
Even if both sons had brought glory to the nation abroad, this wasn’t a developing country anymore. Korea wasn’t in the era of presidents handing out drinks and paving roads and building dams.
And it’s not like On Ijo and On Jurim were the only ones to climb the Tower.
While the On family was becoming chaebol-level wealthy, other bereaved families received a medal and a pension. Korea has had no shortage of patriots, and the fact that only Doan was given such preferential treatment—
It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t rational.
After that broadcast, every media outlet was in an uproar about Chairman On using his sons to build his business. For a while, On Suhyeong was getting hammered in the press.
Strangely, though, the political sphere remained silent. Even the opposition party made only a token effort to criticize him, and then stopped.
It was probably because of the family's background—both sons had accomplished too much, and the eldest had done something historic. Public opinion leaned in their favor. After all, everyone was shouting that On Ijo, a Korean, had saved the world. Maybe the political circles ran a few polls and decided to back off. In the end, everything was swept under the rug.
Regardless, the fact remains: Doan didn’t become a major construction firm on its own. The government’s support played a massive role.
Comments
"But he’s still a national hero, right?"
Downvote for the repeated comment.
If On Ijo had gone to the U.S., wouldn’t he have been even more honored than in Korea?
Who knows? Things were different back then. Raiding the Tower was the main thing, and the situation isn’t the same now.
Kids like this are why public funds keep leaking away... sigh...
“But he’s still a national hero...?”
Guru, diligently digging through the knowledge portal, read that last comment aloud.
Countless bits of information floated before her eyes like bubbles.
“Top of humanity...”
Guildmastew’s older brother was a man with a name that sounded super cool.
He must have been the “teammate” Jurim once had—just like Yun Seojun had explained to her.
“So he had a hyung...”
That must have made Jurim feel very, very sad.
But people kept throwing blame at him anyway.
“Guildmastew just didn’t go to kindergarten, so he’s a little lacking in manners...”
There were tons of videos showing Jurim laughing off and mocking sharp, pointed questions.
And the comments beneath them were so harsh, Guru couldn’t even bear to read them.
One of them said that On Ijo should’ve lived instead of On Jurim.
Guru got so upset, she closed the YouTube app.
What she understood was this: Guildmastew’s whole family were amazing people.
They were national heroes.
And they had a very sad past.
Guru reopened the knowledge portal window she’d last been reading.
It was about the Doan Group’s alleged special treatment.
“Was the Chairm’n a bad person?”
Was it really wrong for a company to receive help from the country when it was struggling?
And what did that have to do with Guildmastew or his brother?
That day at the restaurant with the Chairm’n,
Guru had wanted to go home with him and say hello to Guildmastew together.
But Suhyeong had gently declined.
“Jurim wouldn’t want to see me.”
