The crew-cut man and the Mexican were facing a wall of the ruins, their movements extremely light to avoid making any noise.
They both knew clearly that behind the wall was likely Li Younan. If they turned the corner now, with Li Younan’s back facing them, as long as they pressed the gun against his back, it would be done.
No matter how skilled Li Younan was at hunting bears, he was still just a normal human being. As long as he’s human, it’s impossible to be faster than a bullet.
Then the two held their breath; they had only one gun, brought by the Mexican.
The Mexican also understood what needed to be done, nodded at the crew-cut man, and then took out the gun, pressing close to the corner, slowly peering around.
At this moment, both of their hearts were tense to the extreme. Holding their breath, success or failure depended on this very moment.
The crew-cut man thought of many things at this moment.
His initial experiences were very similar to "Donut’s."
A few years ago, he maxed out all the online loans he could in his country, sold off all his already scant family assets, carried his dreams, and viewed guidance online, smuggling his way all the way from South America.
He encountered countless hardships along the way.
Whether it was the long treks through tropical regions, the mosquito bites, or the extortion from those dirty locals, he managed to pull through.
Many people die halfway through this journey.
But finally reaching the United States, reality hit him hard.
Instead of living the imagined good life, he encountered more unfair treatment.
And all of this was because of the yellow skin that marked him.
But overall, he was clear-headed.
Heh.
Birth couldn’t be changed, but what to choose to do was boundless in possibilities.
If he couldn’t do many legal things in the United States, couldn’t he do illegal ones?
What did he have left to lose?
He had seen "Donut’s" videos and felt contempt and disdain for the guy in his heart.
After being here for so long, could he still not see the Americans for what they were?
What could complaints achieve?
Frankly, he just wasn’t ruthless enough.
Whether Asian or Black, they were about the same.
If black people could do "zero-dollar purchases," then so could he.
And overall, he was smart enough, at least more knowledgeable than those Mexicans. Reflecting on how he got this Mexican idiot to willingly be his lackey, he couldn’t help but feel a bit smug.
Reflecting on the hardships along the way, the crew-cut man’s mood surged with excitement.
He had nothing left to lose now; this opportunity... take the gamble, and a bicycle could turn into a motorcycle.
If this succeeded, all the hardships would be worth it.
As for Li Younan, he was just a lucky kid who benefited from national dividends; why could he acquire so much wealth?
He was the gift from heaven to compensate for all his suffering!
Though a thousand thoughts flashed through his mind, the Mexican took just a few seconds to turn the corner.
The crew-cut man’s eyes were fixed on his companion, but the next moment, what happened completely froze his mind.
The Mexican had just turned the corner and hadn’t even had time to see Li Younan’s status when a massive black shadow collided with him like a speeding truck, knocking him flying.
The crew-cut man stood there stunned; he saw clearly that the thing that collided with the Mexican was a gigantic wild boar.
This wild boar was bigger than any he had ever seen before.
The biggest difference between wild boars and domestic pigs is that this creature’s head is extraordinarily large. Looking at wild boars with the usual perspective of domestic pigs, you’d feel that this creature’s body proportion is peculiarly unbalanced, with the massive head graced by terrifying tusks.
No, why was it a wild boar, and where was Li Younan?
Then, gunshots erupted, accompanied by the intense sounds of struggle, human screams, and the furious roars of the wild boar.
Birds fluttered away in the distance.
...
The scene was exceedingly gruesome.
Even for the crew-cut man, who had seen many bloody scenes, the sense of oppression brought by this different species was unlike anything he had experienced before.
The Mexican’s thigh was pierced through, and his stomach was at least struck twice by the boar’s tusks, blood gushing from the wounds, soaking his clothes, leaving him pale-faced.
They had only one gun between them, with not many bullets, just a single magazine.
This gun had never been fired before; they had stolen it to frighten others and to rob.
The Mexican’s shooting was worse than expected. The crew-cut man didn’t know if those few shots hit the boar.
Even after all the bullets were spent, the wild boar remained vigorous, subjecting the Mexican to what could be described as torturous abuse.
At this moment, the crew-cut man wasn’t doing any better.
Without a weapon in hand, when the boar charged at the Mexican, his mind went blank. He didn’t know what he should do or could do, standing there dazed for several seconds, worried he might get accidentally shot when the Mexican fired, so he waited until all the Mexican’s bullets were spent before finally reacting, picking up a stone from the ground, and trying to throw it at the boar.
But just then, the wild boar abandoned the Mexican and charged toward him.
