During the day, Li Younan drives, and his mom also sits in the co-pilot seat in the cabin, keeping her son company.
The driving cabin and the living cabin are connected, allowing for easy entry.
Certified by the authorities, this vehicle is actually approved for six passengers. The two sofas in the RV have seat belt designs, legally allowing four people to sit.
Of course, for Li Younan, it’s probably not going to be used that way.
This trip is purely for relaxation, so besides stopping at scenic spots along the way, Li Younan doesn’t plan too much with his mom.
For people from small towns, the New Year is still an important time to be with family. Many people working away from home seize these few days to take a break and reunite with family.
But after all, times are changing. Now it’s vastly different from 20 years ago. Even if you’re far apart, you can always see your family via video. If you really want to meet, flying is only a day or two away.
Compared to before, the sense of distance brought by space has been blurred a lot, so the concept of having to go home for the New Year seems to be slowly fading.
When Li Younan went out, he encountered many traveling families along the way.
Especially at service areas, he met lots of RV travelers and had very friendly conversations.
Everyone is taking advantage of the Spring Festival holiday to take their families out for a trip.
Li Younan thinks this way is quite good too. As long as you’re with your closest family, it doesn’t matter where you celebrate the New Year.
On the night of New Year’s Eve, he and his mom spent it at a parking lot in Xi’an.
Saying it like that might sound a bit bleak to others, but actually, this was the most satisfying New Year’s they had in recent years.
The two sat facing each other in the Unimog’s RV, cooked a little hotpot, and watched the Spring Festival Gala together.
At midnight, the sound of firecrackers and sporadic fireworks could be heard.
The temperature inside the car was very comfortable, warm and cozy, and his mom’s heart was warm too.
Just before bedtime, while chatting, his mom casually asked, "Were you really alone when you went to 318?"
Li Younan had no escape, coughed once, and said while tidying up the table, "I brought someone."
"A girl?"
"Mom, stop asking."
"Oh, then that’s it."
His mom’s face was obviously filled with a joyful smile.
Li Younan coughed and said, "It’s not like that, don’t overthink it, just a friend."
His mom waved her hand dismissively, "I didn’t say anything." Then, after a pause, she added more seriously, "Son, you don’t need to worry about what mom thinks."
"The most important thing is to follow your own heart. Do what makes you comfortable and happy, understand?"
Li Younan paused for a moment, then nodded seriously.
They didn’t just idle around in Xi’an. There were two check-in spots in and around the city, and while traveling with his mom, he completed tasks at both locations and gained two rather niche skills.
One skill was silversmithing, boosted by engraving and painting skills, it leveled up to Level 2 immediately.
But honestly, Li Younan couldn’t think of any scenario where this skill might come in handy.
The second skill was even more outrageous: he drew a wingsuit flying skill.
Hmm, this should be part of the extreme sports category.
And since his balance was already maxed out, this skill also directly leveled up to Level 2.
In simple terms, the skill’s effect is that he might be the most badass wingsuit flyer alive today.
However, for now, Li Younan isn’t too interested in wingsuit flying; so he just checked off two skills he doesn’t find very useful for the moment.
But Li Younan was still quite happy.
The saying goes, "having more skills never hurts." No one would complain about knowing too much.
Li Younan is very much looking forward to the day when he can complete over 80% of the system’s skills. What kind of person would he be then?
This wouldn’t make him feel life lost its flavor; in fact, mastering everything would make life truly interesting. This kind of intrigue is something money can’t buy.
Ultimately, what people pursue in life is spiritual joy; material means are just methods, not the end goal.
After acquiring these two skills, his mom’s vacation was coming to an end. Li Younan drove her back a day early to let her get used to returning to work.
After the New Year, the date to head to 318 gets closer and closer as planned.
Li Younan had tested this RV so well that there wasn’t much room for further optimization.
And Liu Yu also sent a message asking when he planned to set off.
Half-jokingly, Li Younan replied, "Your sister isn’t even anxious, why are you? Wait for my message."
What Li Younan didn’t know was that after he sent this message, Liu Yu showed it to his sister with a blackened expression, then grumbled, "I’ve borne too many undeserved sarcastic comments for you."
Liu Li stuck out her tongue and shyly said, "Sorry, brother, but if I ask him upfront... wouldn’t that make me seem too obvious?"
