Kanna was the first to be brought back to the camp. She lay despondently on the medical bed prepared for her by the production team, undergoing further physical examinations.
A nurse drew her blood and gave her a full set of examinations including an ultrasound.
During the check-up, her mind was constantly pondering the situation of her opponent.
After casually chatting with the staff for a few sentences, she learned that her final opponent was Li Younan.
She still had some impression of Li Younan. When they first entered the training camp at Chilco Lake, Li Younan’s swordsmanship had left a deep impression on her.
The staff didn’t reveal much more information, only saying meaningfully: "I think you should watch our previous episodes yourself, and you’ll experience it more profoundly."
This left Kanna a bit puzzled. She sighed softly and joked to the staff next to her, "Honestly, I haven’t even finished my food. My wild rice could have kept me going for another three or four days; it’s really a pity. Besides, I made quite a few interesting things."
The staff nodded and said, "We’ve watched the videos you filmed earlier. You used your hunting knife to carve an interesting little animal. I remember it was a dog, right?"
"No, it was a horse." Kanna protested very seriously.
The staff laughed heartily.
Then Kanna sank into melancholy: "To be honest, my shelter is definitely not the best one in quality, but I’ve lived there for so long, and now that I’m leaving, I do feel a bit reluctant. Can you understand this emotion?"
"Yes, I can."
Kanna asked again, "What will happen to my shelter afterwards?"
"Your shelter? It will be destroyed by us. After all, this is true wilderness, and we need to return it to nature."
"Oh, that’s such a pity. I was thinking that if I have the chance in the future, perhaps I could hike back here and revisit."
Just as they were chatting, her physical examination results came out.
The doctor told Kanna very seriously: "Well, girl, I have to admire your strong will, but your bodily indicators tell me your condition is not optimistic. First, your blood system is nutrient-deficient with anemia; currently, your body lacks protein, folic acid, and there are localized inflammations. Gum bleeding is due to a decrease in platelets. Additionally, your liver and kidney functions are showing metabolic abnormalities, which is because during long-term starvation, the body breaks down muscles for energy, and your enzyme indices have significantly increased."
"Of course, there might be more problems, and you need to go to a regular hospital for further examination."
Kanna nodded, not surprising herself with her physical condition. Then she curiously asked: "By the way, what about my opponent?"
"Li Younan? We’ve already sent people to pick him up. By then, you will leave here with our staff together."
At this moment, Kanna started to anticipate seeing her opponent, whom she had battled against for so long.
So, what state is Li Younan in now?
Kanna simply hung two bottles of nutritional liquid in the camp, ate some liquid food, and her complexion looked much better than when she first arrived.
The camp staff suggested to her not to immediately consume high-protein, high-fat food but to eat gradually.
Although the program had not been fully edited, it was wrapped up for the internal staff.
At such a time, it was natural to celebrate a bit.
Unable to leave immediately that day, they still needed to stay at the camp for two more days.
Kanna was brought over in the morning, and now it was lunchtime.
The other team dispatched to pick up Li Younan called back just before lunch began, telling their camp colleagues: "We won’t come back to eat, just add a meal at Li Younan’s shelter."
The staff left at the camp were suddenly left speechless.
Kanna, seeing this, looked puzzled.
What does it mean to have lunch at Li Younan’s shelter?
Crucially, from their conversation, it seemed like... the others were clearly somewhat... jealous of the staff having dinner at Li Younan’s place?
Huh?
Did I misunderstand?
At such a moment, shouldn’t they hurry back to the camp for a proper civilized lunch?
The other staff in the camp seemed keen to tease Kanna, still not explaining, only saying, "Just let them bring some back; you’ll understand when you see Li Younan’s food."
Kanna was full of doubts but didn’t ask further.
Kanna returned to her hospital bed for more drips. She didn’t interact much with others for the entire afternoon and needed quiet rest.
After lying in bed for a long time, it was already evening when she woke up again.
At this time, only then did Li Younan and the other staff return.
When Kanna finished her IV and was taking a walk near the camp for some fresh air, she saw them return. The moment she saw Li Younan, her expression was stunned.
Before this, although she was unwilling, she didn’t think the gap between herself and other contestants was very large.
The fact that Li Younan hunted a bear was indeed the last straw that broke her mental defense, but she always thought it was just a black bear.
The hardest part of hunting a black bear is spotting it.
When it comes down to it, you have to be lucky to have the chance.
Until a female staff member appeared beside her, looking admiringly and said: "This is a man who can hunt grizzly bears, he’s truly a strong man."
"He’s also a very handsome Asian boy; I’m not sure if he has a girlfriend."
Kanna’s eyelid twitched—grizzly bear?
Although they’re both bears, the difference is like that between a golden retriever and a northeastern golden retriever.
The female staff member smiled and said to Kanna, "Oh, by the way, you can take a shower tonight; we have shower facilities here." Kanna nodded in thanks.
"But poor Li Younan, he can only shower here."
"What?" Kanna thought she misheard.
"You didn’t know? Oh, it seems like no one told you... From his shelter to our camp, some aspects of that guy’s life quality actually went downhill."
"He can take baths at his place, whereas in our camp, he can only use the limited hot water for showers."
Kanna hadn’t recovered from the shock when the staff accompanying Li Younan excitedly raised the porcelain jar in his hand: "Guys, look what I brought back? Li Younan just cooked bear paw yesterday!" Another person added, holding a bag: "And here, butter pan-fried beef strips!"
Kanna listened to these familiar phrases, combined together, they plunged her into deep self-doubt—Alone in the Wilderness, bathing, butter pan-fried beef... how could these words appear in the same context?
Wait, and... where did that porcelain jar come from?!
Next, there was hardly any detailed medical examination for Li Younan, just a simple weigh-in to wrap things up.
"Your health is excellent."
While doing this, Kanna was beside him, as she still needed to hang another IV drip at night.
At this moment, the two rivals who fought to the end finally greeted each other.
"Congratulations."
"Oh, thank you. To be honest, I was surprised that you’re the final opponent; I thought it would be Pacini."
"Really? I thought so too."
"Hahaha, it seems we have a strong consensus on this point."
"So... did you really hunt a grizzly bear?"
"Yes."
"Looks like my defeat wasn’t unjustified... So what’s up with the porcelain and butter? I just heard staff say you had butter?"
"To be precise, it’s ghee, but this is quite a long story, involving my little ewe..."
In this final moment, the two young rivals chatted for a long time.
As they continued talking, Kanna let out a deep sigh.
She no longer needed to watch the show; from Li Younan’s mouth, she had a pretty clear understanding of the kind of rival she faced during this long period.
However, she didn’t feel crushed by it; instead, she once again flashed her signature smile, reaching out a hand to Li Younan: "Buddy, you’re an admirable rival."
"I’m happy to have a rival like you and proud to have persisted with you till the end."
"Yes, I’m proud of myself too!"
Li Younan was momentarily stunned, then smiled and reached out to shake hands with Kanna: "You’re an admirable rival too!"
The original plan was to leave Chilco Lake the next day, but due to an unexpected incident, Li Younan had to wait one more day.
That morning, Li Younan stretched comfortably.
Honestly, while his shelter had better conditions in some ways compared to the camp, this was still a modern camp with many facilities that the wilderness could never match — such as down duvets, mattresses, pillows, warm air conditioning, and bright, spacious bedroom spaces.
He missed his shelter where he stayed for a long time, but it was just nostalgia.
In comparison, houses in modern civilized society are much more comfortable to live in.
He planned to take a walk near the camp, and just then, a staff member brought him a message: "Hey, buddy, there’s something very important someone wants to talk to you about. Of course, to be precise, I’m just a messenger."
Li Younan looked puzzled.
A few minutes later, he was finally connected with the person who wanted to talk to him.
A polite middle-aged male voice came over the phone: "Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Schneider, a private lawyer for a gentleman. There is something I’d like to discuss with you."
Li Younan was full of queries but maintained his patience: "I don’t know how I might be able to help you."
"Here’s the thing, my employer is a huge fan of ’Alone in the Wilderness’, to be precise, he’s an avid fan."
"Your performance on this show was very impressive... Oh right, we got the news from inside that you won eventually."
"Rest assured, we’ll definitely ensure confidentiality before the official broadcast."
"Today I want to discuss with you something about your shelter and the porcelain inside."
"To put it simply, my employer, the gentleman, wants to buy your shelter and those porcelain pieces."
