This means that his shelter is within the bear’s hunting territory.
This gray bear is enormous and surprisingly intelligent, with a keen sense of smell, and it has already memorized his scent.
Although Li Younan is uncertain whether these beasts have a sense of revenge, allowing such a gigantic predator to live near his shelter is certainly not a wise decision.
In nature, it’s survival of the fittest, the weak are preyed upon by the strong.
And he is now part of nature too!
In a previous season, a master named Roland hunted a bear, but he hunted a black bear, not the gray bear before him.
Black bears also inhabit the shores of Chilco Lake in Canada, but compared to gray bears, black bears survive in a very harsh environment. Their primary food sources are insects, carrion, honey, fruits, and other easily obtainable food, and their numbers are even less than gray bears.
After Roland hunted that black bear, the production crew was warned because of this, so the footage of Roland hunting a gray bear was banned from being aired.
But gray bears are different; it is legal to hunt them around Chilco Lake.
The production team naturally secured the qualification for each contestant to hunt gray bears, which was their complete preparation after learning from past experiences.
The footage of hunting gray bears can be broadcast normally.
However, hunting gray bears is exceedingly difficult for contestants without guns, so the production team has never expected the contestants to be able to hunt a gray bear.
Previously, Pacini was even scared by gray bears to the point of having a psychological shadow.
Li Younan knows very well that the gray bear is seriously injured now, but the two arrows are not fatal.
The life force of such a large beast is extremely resilient. If it is allowed to leave today, the gray bear will indeed be tormented by the arrow wounds for a period of time—especially the arrow in the back of its neck, which it probably cannot remove by itself.
However, the gray bear’s front paws also have grasping functions, making it extremely likely that they will remove the arrow from its neck.
If the artery was not injured, it’s not impossible for it to heal over time.
Due to the animal conservation organization’s influence, the customized bows and arrows issued by the production team have high-intensity arrowheads but lack barbs.
This design facilitates contestants’ repeated use, yet also leaves a risk for creatures like gray bears to pull out the arrows.
In any case, Li Younan must track down and completely kill this gray bear.
At this moment, Li Younan exudes a murderous aura.
He still has 7 arrows left.
It’s not easy to hunt a fully-grown gray bear.
The bear’s defense is truly astonishing; to hunt it, one must maintain sufficient patience and leverage human advantages—namely, superhuman endurance, wearing down the bear’s strength little by little, and then striking when the time is right.
This process is certainly dangerous, but Li Younan is exceptionally confident; he even turns on his action camera to introduce his plan to the audience: "We need to hunt this gray bear. The most important thing is to maintain a safe distance from it, and based on this, continuously use bows and arrows to deplete it from a distance. This process won’t be instantaneous, so we must keep ample patience."
Tracking a gray bear is simpler now; it’s winter, and the snow on the ground will inevitably leave a trail of footprints as the bear escapes, which Li Younan just needs to follow.
Unexpectedly for Li Younan, during its course, this gray bear had changed direction twice and headed towards the lakeside, the area where he had previously found wild rice.
Before reaching the lakeside, the gray bear still needs to pass through a patch of forest.
After tracking for several hours, Li Younan finally caught up with the gray bear at the edge of his vision.
The arrow still protrudes from the back of the gray bear’s neck, but the one upfront is gone, greatly surprising Li Younan and causing him some shock—the bear’s intelligence is indeed far higher than he had imagined.
Just as Li Younan spots the gray bear, it suddenly turns around and roars angrily.
Probably angered by the prolonged tracking, it seems unwilling to continue waiting to be hunted, and runs towards Li Younan.
The distance is quite far, and Li Younan guesses it is about 100 meters away.
It charges through the forest, with trees obstructing it, making it difficult for arrows to hit, but Li Younan does not panic at all.
The action camera records this scene, and afterward, every viewer who saw it held their breath in suspense for Li Younan.
Unlike black bears, gray bears have a significant disadvantage: poor tree-climbing ability.
In fact, gray bear cubs are quite adept at climbing trees, but as their weight continuously increases, climbing becomes an exceedingly challenging task for adults; their claws can hardly bear such a staggering weight.
And around Chilco Lake, the forest coverage is astonishing, with large trees as thick as a person’s waist everywhere.
When the gray bear runs towards him, Li Younan straps the bow to his back and climbs up a nearby towering tree in a few breaths, a task he executes effortlessly, given his top-tier climbing skills.
The gray bear soon arrives at the base of the tree, looks up at Li Younan, and roars furiously, then attempts to claw at the tree trunk.
This is a tree with a straight trunk.
And Li Younan has been waiting for this moment.
He steadies his body on the tree branch with his feet, and as the gray bear clumsily places its front paws on the tree trunk and leaps with its hind paws, Li Younan draws his bow and arrow fully, and shoots downward.
