I have an Apocalypse City
Chapter 1167: Chapter 1169 Examination_1
Soon, Song Jian followed Lady Fox to the front of a shop. The shop looked quite narrow, with only two floors, made entirely of wooden structure. It seemed to have some age to it, with mottled and battered walls. Walking on the steps, his feet made a "creak, creak" sound as if the wooden boards could hardly bear the weight and were about to break at any moment.
The light inside the store was somewhat dim, and the ground was covered in dust; it appeared that it had not been cleaned for a long time. Such a shop, even if someone discovered it and walked in for a look, would immediately turn around and leave.
Upon entering the shop, Song Jian looked around.
The shelves around him were filled with transparent glass jars and bottles, within which various biological organs and tissues were soaked in a special solution. Song Jian even saw a heart that was still beating and a human head that could open and close its eyes on its own.
"This is practically a dissection exhibition hall!" Song Jian’s face turned a bit strange. In the game, there were not a few people who researched strange things; they liked to dissect the limbs of various beasts and then join them with other creatures, creating all sorts of bizarre and monstrous creatures.
Song Jian had seen such things before, but he never expected that within the territory of the Imperial Sword Sect on Ancient Sword Star, such an establishment would exist.
"Young man, please wait a moment. The owner wants to speak with you directly!" Lady Fox, upon returning to the shop, immediately shed her disguise, turning into a shadowy, mist-like creature.
"Shadow demon..." Song Jian stared at the monster before him, thinking to himself that he had killed many such monsters in that eerie village shrouded in mist before.
These monsters were not very strong in themselves, but their abilities were very peculiar. They could possess other monsters, drawing strength from their bodies, and even merge with each other to evolve into even more sinister and powerful creatures.
In a short while, the shadow demon in front of him suddenly began to burn, like a black flame. In no time at all, the entire shadow demon was burned clean, leaving behind a fist-sized, black and shiny pearl floating in the air.
"Soul Shadow Pearl?" Song Jian squinted his eyes. The black pearl in front of him was exactly like the Soul Shadow Pearl that fell after killing a shadow demon.
At this moment, a coquettish laugh sounded throughout the room. The Soul Shadow Pearl shone with a black light, and the figure of that girl from the eerie village appeared in the void.
The girl had jet-black hair and seemed to be only eighteen or nineteen years old, wearing form-fitting armor. The Giant Dragon head on her left shoulder looked particularly ferocious and terrifying.
"You have done very well, to have arrived at Ancient Sword Star in less than half a month!" the girl’s face was full of smiles, just like when Song Jian first met her.
"You can actually appear here too?" Song Jian said with slight surprise.
The girl’s face showed a look of disdain, and with a cold snort she said, "Hmph, it’s just a broken Semi-dimensional plane. In the face of time, it has no secrets at all!"
In the scene, the girl seemed to still be in that strange town, with an Abyss Fortress suppressed behind her, covered in thick blood vessels and tumors.
"What exactly do you want me to steal from the Imperial Sword Sect?" asked Song Jian.
"Very simple!" the girl said with a laugh: "Become a formal disciple of the Imperial Sword Sect, and then go to suppress the Ancient Desolate Abyss. From within the Ancient Desolate Abyss, find the Demon Suppression Tower of the Ancient Desolate race for me. Then I will release your three companions, not only lifting the restrictions on them but perhaps even granting them some benefits..."
"A formal disciple, the Ancient Desolate Abyss, the Demon Suppression Tower?" Song Jian suddenly exclaimed angrily, "Do you think I can complete this task in just two months? There’s simply not enough time!"
"Giggle, time flows differently on Ancient Sword Star compared to the Main Plane. One year on Ancient Sword Star might just be one month on the Main Plane. Although the time frame of a little over two years is somewhat tight, if you work hard, it’s entirely possible for you to complete this task!" The girl laughed with her whole body trembling slightly, giving off an "I believe in you" vibe.
...
After a while, Song Jian, with a grave expression on his face, walked out of the shop, holding the black Soul Shadow Pearl in his hand.
After glancing again at the heavyweight Soul Shadow Pearl, Song Jian let out a silent sigh, tucked the pearl back into his inventory, and strode towards the inn.
This trip out, having been approached by this eccentric woman, instantly made him lose the interest to continue wandering around the small town. Song Jian returned to the inn and patiently waited for the day of the Imperial Sword Sect’s sacrificial ceremony.
Two days later, Duan Jian appeared and took Song Jian with him for Sword Flight Art, flying towards the true gate of the Imperial Sword Sect.
Soon, they arrived before a towering peak that reached into the clouds, rising from the ground like a pillar piercing the heavens. Even from hundreds of miles away, the peak was visible. However, Song Jian and Duan Jian, after flying a certain distance from the town, suddenly saw what was clearly a mysterious barrier around the mountain, preventing ordinary people from getting close.
The two quickly arrived at the foot of the towering mountain. A gigantic stone staircase, ten meters wide, led all the way from the base to the top of the mountain, disappearing into the clouds.
"You can’t be so old-fashioned as to actually make me climb step by step to the very top, can you?" Song Jian glanced at the endless staircase and turned to Duan Jian with an unavoidable complaint.
"Ahem, actually, this is just the first step, testing the physical and willpower of those wishing to become disciples. Only those who can rely on their own strength to reach the mountaintop are qualified to enter the Imperial Sword Sect!" Duan Jian’s face flashed with an embarrassed look as he sheepishly said, "Back in the day, I, too, climbed up from here step by step. There is no time limit; even if it takes you a year or even ten years to reach the top, it would still count as a success – but you can only use the power of your own body, no skills or additional tools are permitted!"
"Phew, okay," Song Jian sighed and nodded. When one is under another’s roof, they must bow their head. Since he wanted to become a disciple of the Imperial Sword Sect, naturally he had to comply with their admission test methods, even though Song Jian found these methods a bit too low-tech. To test physical fitness and resolve, he could think of more than a dozen methods that were both faster and simpler on the spot, each far better than ascending the mountain stairs.
"To have such a grand sect gate and yet not know how to keep up with the times, really!" Song Jian muttered softly to himself as he stepped onto the first stone stair.
One step, two steps, three steps...
Song Jian climbed steadily upwards, and when he crossed the tenth step, he suddenly felt a heaviness in his body.
"Huh, why has my body suddenly become heavier?" Song Jian frowned, feeling as though an extra ten kilograms had been added to his weight. This added weight was not much for him now, but if the weight increased along with the ascent up the stairs, based on the rate of increase, Song Jian felt that reaching the mountaintop would not be an easy task.
