I have an Apocalypse City
Chapter 564: Chapter 564: Ambush
The soldiers pursuing from behind were all level thirty, but only the leader riding the Velociraptor had the strength of first grade.
From their overwhelming aura, Song Jian even suspected, were they iron-blooded warriors from some army? Could they merely be the servants of a giant dragon?
You must know, the servants are merely slaves of the Shadow Giant Dragon, the overwhelming aura these people had, anything but what a slave army could carry;
Just as Song Jian was observing through his Blood Crow, the group suddenly stopped. The leader servant retrieved the longbow from the back of the Velociraptor and aimed at the Blood Crow;
“Oh no, it spotted me...” Song Jian gasped in his mind, just as he was about to command the crow to flee, and a sharp bone arrow pierced through the air like lightning, hitting the Blood Crow and bursting it into pieces;
“It detected that I was watching...” Song Jian’s face turned dreadfully gloomy. He didn’t expect the pursuers sent by the Shadow Giant Dragon to be so formidable;
Merely by fixating his eyes on them for a little longer, he managed to alert them. Their keen perception rendered any ambush or surprise attack boundary impossible; to defeat or to kill them, he had to face them head-to-head in battle.
Initially, Song Jian thought of turning around to annihilate his pursuers, but now it seemed that continuing to escape was the right choice.
Without time to extinguish the fire, Song Jian opened his wings of the steel on his back, and shot skyward, eventually disappearing into the night.
The half-dragon leader that took down the Blood Crow commanded the group in an offensive formation to furiously pursue Song Jian. But when they arrived, all they saw was a burning bonfire;
The half-dragon leader’s face turned icy. He prowled around the fire, smelling, then raised his head, fixed his blood-red eyes upon the dark night sky with a sharp, not-so-easy-going look.
In the desolate wilderness, not daring to stop for a moment, Song Jian deployed all his acceleration skills just as their cooldowns ended. At this time, he was immensely grateful for the tons of honey he had previously gathered for brewing honey wine. Otherwise, faced with so much exertion, he would have collapsed on the road by now.
Escaping from the night to daylight, and from daylight till dusk again, Song Jian was caught up with and battled a few times with the half-dragon pursuers, before escaping again;
With the Morphing into Dark Cloud and Wings of Steel, on top of the Frost Sprint and Sword Shadow Step, if Song Jian wanted to flea, it’d be quite difficult to capture him. Moreover, Song Jian’s secret weapon, the passive skill of Enemy of the Death God, ensured him of revival even after death.
In the wasteland, not a single plant was in sight, only coarse gravel and boulders. Song Jian’s Wings of Steel gradually disappeared as he descended down from the sky.
Just as he was leaning against a giant rock and panting heavily, he suddenly felt a chilling sensation. It seemed as if a huge beast was right in front of him, baring its bloodthirsty jaws;
A surge of potent death energy was gathering fast in front. Song Jian suddenly opened his eyes wide and raised his head to look forward;
From behind were pursuers, and from the front—an ambush;
Song Jian was frantically forming ideas in his mind. All his acceleration skills were on a cooldown, so he summoned a phantom clone to shield himself in the front.
Boom!
An enormous surge of death magic energy exploded violently in front, the shockwave and the aftermath completely shattered the phantom clone into pieces, despite it having seventy percent of Song Jian’s strength, wasn’t much different from a typical level thirty monster combat attribute.
Song Jian’s face sank, he quickly turned to dodge. If he had taken the hit head-on, even if he wasn’t dead, he would be severely injured and lose his combat power;
“Got you, boy, did you think you could evade the Death’s Scythe hitman’s pursuit?”
As the blast’s shockwave began to settle and the smoke cleared, a man clothed in a black cape was seen floating in midair. The face concealed beneath the cape emerged, revealing a hideous expression, and his gaze shot towards Song Jian.
“You are... a killer from the Death’s Scythe?”
Song Jian’s face darkened. He hadn’t expected that at this time, the final pursuit of the Death’s Scythe would arrive as planned. This man, from his outfit, seemed exactly like the killer from the Death’s Scythe that he had encountered earlier.
“So you do know, why not surrender then? Don’t worry, I will be gentle. I won’t hurt you.” The killer from Death’s Scythe showed a strange smile on his face.
“Seeking death!”
The assassin’s words evidently angered Song Jian; he squinted his eyes as he leaped high in the air. In mid-air, he lifted the Crimson Fire Heart Ape Sword in his hand, and sent a dazzling golden sword qi sweeping towards him.
The maximum attack range of Light Strike was ten meters. Song Jian was too far from the target, so he had to leap into the air.
Without waiting to see if he could hit his target, Song Jian fell heavily to the ground. After rolling for some distance, Song Jian finally raised his head to look at the assassin in mid-air;
The golden sword aura, when it was three feet away from the killer, seemed to have struck something, giving a roar. The air around the killer twisted, and a clear cracking sound came from the air.
The defense was broken, but the killer seemed indifferent, still showing Song Jian his cold smile.
“Finger of Death!”
The killer pointed a finger at Song Jian, and a zapped of black lightning burst from his finger, shooting towards him;
Song Jian’s face changed drastically. This was one of the trump cards of the second killer he previously faced – so powerful and extremely fast. In a blink, it had reached Song Jian’s chest.
Song Jian instinctively held Long Sword to his chest, and a touch of golden light just shone from the long sword, and it suffered a heavy blow;
“Boom!” Song Jian felt as if he were hit by a heavy hammer and his body involuntarily moved backward;
Song Jian’s feet heavily dragged on the ground, sliding more than five or six meters before stopping;
Seeing that the black lightning was reflected back by the target, the face of the Death’s Scythe’s killer changed color;
“You’ve got some skill, no wonder you killed two previous groups of our organization’s killers!” said the killer.
Just then, a roar echoed from behind Song Jian, the raging howl, like a thunderbolt, resounded from the distance.
“The Shadow Giant Dragon is watching you! You cannot escape... the thief!”
Song Jian’s face changed; The half-dragon pursuer was so fast!
The killer from Death’s Scythe suddenly laughed heartily when he saw Song Jian’s complexion change for the worse: “Hahaha, should I say that you are fearless or stubborn? You dared to provoke a Shadow Giant Dragon after already angering the Death’s Scythe?”
“Looks like you stole something from the lair of the Shadow Giant Dragon, otherwise, it wouldn’t have sent a pursuer after you!” The Death’s Scythe killer looked at Song Jian thoughtfully, and a glint of greed flashed in his eyes: “If you’re willing to give me the treasure you stole from the lair of the Shadow Giant Dragon, not only will I not kill you, but I will also help you repel the people who are trying to kill you. Moreover, I can recommend you to join the ranks of Death’s Scythe. What do you think?”
