The night in the game ramped up peril several fold. New players who had just entered the game, many of them did not know that the ordinary human body didn’t achieve any advantages in combat against mutant zombies. Even in the villa, Song Jian would occasionally hear a few mournful screams and calls for help.
“Song, Brother Song, can I build a safe house next to your villa?” Wang Qi, shuddering from the screams outside, asked in a low voice, looking at Song Jian’s calm face.
“Sure, we could also take care of each other then.” Song Jian came back to his senses, nodding and saying.
Mentioning the construction of the safe house, Song Jian suddenly felt a headache. Originally, he thought it wouldn’t cost too much to modify the doors and windows, but now Song Jian found that if he wanted to transform the entire villa into a system-approved safe house and upgrade it to defensive standards of the safe house, the amount of wood and stone required far exceeded Song Jian’s expectations. It required as much as three thousand units of wood and three thousand five hundred units of stone, without even considering the area outside the villa.
“Let’s see, if it doesn’t work out, we’ll just have to find another place for the safe house.” Song Jian looked at the moonlight outside the window, feeling a little dejected.
Early the next morning, Song Jian rose early and headed for a small grove outside the ring road;
Thump, thump, thump-
Song Jian’s fist brutally smashed against a willow tree trunk. The tree slightly trembled as fragments of wood occasionally popped off from the tree and flew into the air, transforming into a white light and entering Song Jian’s inventory. The skin, originally scarred on Song Jian’s fists, once again erupted in a smear of blood. If this were the real world, Song Jian’s hands would long since have been ruined from the brutality. But in the game, a player’s recuperation speed was several times faster than in reality, which was why Song Jian ventured to do this.
If his vitality points did not drop to a certain level, the rate of healing one’s injuries was extremely fast.
“But damn, it really hurts!” Having chopped down several willow trees with his fists, Song Jian then sat on a tree stump and took a break. His hands, shaking and covered in blood, reached for a roasted meat and a bottle of mineral water, which he started eating greedily.
Today’s efficiency was apparently much higher than the previous day. In just half a day, Song Jian had already collected nearly a hundred units of wood. However, he had yet to gather any stones.
After resting, Song Jian got up again, glanced at the sight of minimal golden color in the depths of the forest, quelling his impulsiveness, and continued to head towards the next willow tree.
In this way, the day quickly passed. Song Jian’s back ached and his hands were shaking involuntarily. The back of his hands were still smeared with dried blood;
After a long day of hard work, the total number of wood units already exceeded three hundred. Although it was still a long way from transforming the villa, what heartened Song Jian was that within a day, both his skills, “Bare Hands (Fists and Palms) (Basic)” and “Chopping Skill” had both leveled up.
After reaching level 2, the skill had similar effects as other basic skills, enhancing power by 10% for fist and palm attacks and improving 10% of chopping efficiency. It didn’t feel like much, but it certainly had accelerated the speed of wood collection;
As night fell, Song Jian looked out the window, he decided not to go to the Doomsday Supermarket today. Although there were many good things in it, Song Jian couldn’t afford to buy anything.
Back at the villa, Song Jian saw a busy Wang Qi.
“Brother Song, try some of my roast meat.” Wang Qi brought out two plates of roasted meat from the kitchen.
Wang Qi’s injuries had fully healed. Injuries that would have taken months to heal in the real world required only a little over ten hours in the game.
While Song Jian was out collecting materials, Wang Qi took advantage of the daylight to hunt a few mutant zombies and levelled up to 2.
Meanwhile, the zombies also dropped some zombie meat, which Wang Qi collected, and attempted to comprehend the “Cooking Skill.”
In the real world, even people who can only cook instant noodles can comprehend the cooking technique skill in the game. The cooking skill is easy to acquire, but recipes are not that simple to comprehend.
The “Roast Meat” recipe, which is easiest to comprehend, had slight differences from Song Jian’s “Roast Meat.” His “Roast Meat” attribute increased vitality recovery speed by 10% for one hour, while Wang Qi’s “Roast Meat” attribute increased vitality points by 10 upon consumption;
“Your roast meat is quite good, it’s like a mini vitality potion.” Song Jian praised.
“It’s all right, Brother Song, I’ll give you a few if you need them.” Saying that, Wang Qi took out three more pieces of roasted meat from his inventory and handed them to Song Jian.
Song Jian did not stand on ceremony, and simply accepted them.
In the early stage, the roasted meat that directly restores 10 vitality points is much better than increasing the vitality recovery speed by 10%.
“Brother Song, are you going to the Doomsday Supermarket today?” Wang Qi asked.
Song Jian shook his head and said, “There’s no point in going without the Doomsday coins.”
Wang Qi hesitated and said, “Brother Song, 1 want to get a membership card.”
Song Jian knew Wang Qi’s main reason for wanting a membership card was for the thousand reward points that came with it. He didn’t object and just nodded, “Then be careful. There are more and more players now. Don’t get into conflict with others.”
This was a game that could influence the real world. There were no laws in the game. It was all about survival of the fittest. Fortunately, everyone had just entered the game and their strength was not strong. Song Jian believed that it wouldn’t be long before the ugliness of human nature would be fully manifested in the game.
“Got it.” Wang Qi stood nervously next to Song Jian, looking towards Camel Square.
In the surrounding darkness, there were many players waiting for the appearance of the Doomsday Supermarket. Some were new players while others had already completed the membership card task, waiting to hand it over. But after a long while, there were no multicolored lights on the Camel Square.
“What’s going on? Why hasn’t the Doomsday Supermarket appeared yet?” Wang Qi was a little nervous.
“Yesterday at this time, the multi-colored lights had already appeared. Could it be...” Song Jian had a bad feeling.
Even by two or three in the morning, the Doomsday Supermarket still hadn’t appeared. The Camel Square was filled with disgruntled voices, especially from those who had completed the task but were yet to hand it over.
“Brother Song, do you think the Doomsday Square will never appear again?” Wang Qi asked in a somewhat disappointed tone.
“I don’t know.” Song Jian shook his head. If he had known that the Doomsday Square was going to disappear, he would have definitely exchanged all the unnecessary things he had for the Doomsday Coins, and then bought a Martial Arts Secret Scroll from within.
“What a pity!” Song Jian murmured.
The night passed without a word, and soon it was dawn. Early next morning, Song Jian was prepared to go collect wood;
“Brother Song, 1’11 come with you to collect wood.” Wang Qi suddenly proposed.
Wang Qi’s mainline quest, like Song Jian’s, required building a system-acknowledged safe house, also requiring a large amount of wood and stone.
Song Jian thought for a moment, a smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth, gave a slight nod, and the two of them headed towards the forest;
