A good mentor can naturally make the initiation faster and the improvement better.
But ultimately, it’s up to oneself.
Shen Han is not worried about his improvement, he possesses that mysterious ability to easily change attributes, what he lacks more is resources.
As for the guidance from these masters, it’s just a cherry on top.
The two continued forward, and Master Gan’s mansion was noticeably smaller than that of Qu Zhongjin.
And not nearly as refined and elegant.
The servants and attendants in the mansion seemed to be dressed a notch or two shabbier.
As they walked inside, a few disciples quickly came out to greet them.
"Master Gan."
Upon hearing the disciples’ calling, he nodded slightly.
"Pig Five, take him to get some clothes tokens first."
After speaking, he looked up at Shen Han: "He will be called Shu Jiu from now on."
"Understood, Master."
One of the male disciples came forward respectfully and, as he approached Shen Han, discreetly tugged at Shen Han’s sleeve.
Signaling Shen Han to walk with him.
Shen Han did not hesitate much, and followed behind him out of the mansion.
Once they had walked a little farther away, this Senior Brother seemed to relax slightly, turning to look at Shen Han with a hint of resignation on his face.
"Don’t think about it, I’m not called Pig Five...
I am Pei Mao, you can call me Senior Brother Pei.
As for Master Gan calling me Pig Five, it’s just a code name he gave us."
As he spoke, Pei Mao also turned his head to look at Shen Han.
"The Shu Jiu from just now is the code name he gave you.
From now on, in front of people, Master Gan will call you that..."
Pei Mao’s face carried a touch of gloominess, as if pigs and mice sounded equally unpleasant.
"Is there any symbolism to this Pig and Mouse?"
Shen Han’s expression did not change, he merely asked further.
"Pigs are said to be stupid, acting rashly, not using their brains when doing things.
Once, when I was refining a Pill, the Tripod Cauldron exploded.
Master Gan then crowned me with this code name..."
Upon mentioning these, a hint of disgust appeared on Pei Mao’s face.
After a pause, his gaze turned again to Shen Han.
"As for Mouse, Master Gan is saying that you have a short-sighted vision, a bit of cleverness, but lacking in foresight...
In any case, people given code names by him will not be valued.
He has also said in front of people that we’re just a waste of disciple slots for him."
As Pei Mao talked, it seemed he had a bit of resentment.
"If you ask me, his alchemy abilities are just average, yet he looks down on us.
If it weren’t for the contribution points and to learn a thing or two, I wouldn’t put up with him here."
Shen Han looked at the Pei Mao beside him, this Senior Brother was quite frank.
"Just endure for another half a year, and with the contribution points I’ve accumulated, I can exchange them for the materials to prepare an Assist Star Pill.
Once sold, I can live a peaceful and prosperous life for the rest of my days."
Pei Mao’s hopes were very down-to-earth, for ordinary people, peaceful prosperity is the greatest wish.
It aligned with Shen Han’s aspirations, Shen Han sought peace and tranquility, but to this day, it was hard to say that he had achieved it.
Trouble often comes one after another, just as you think life is settling down, new worries immediately arise.
Shen Han thought to himself, but did not discourage Pei Mao.
Maintaining hope in the heart is not a bad thing.
As the two continued forward, they went to the Internal Affairs Bureau to collect the Qilin Valley clothes and tokens.
"Serving under Master Gan, don’t expect to learn anything, everything has to depend on yourself.
Stay a little longer, Junior Brother, you will understand."
Seeing the resentment full on Pei Mao’s face, Shen Han did not add fuel to the fire.
Actually, from the moment Qu Zhongjin handed him over to Master Gan, Shen Han had not expected to learn anything from them.
The key, after all, lies in oneself.
On the way back, Shen Han asked more about the rules of Qilin Valley.
For many people, Qilin Valley is a sought-after treasure land.
Many people want to come, and many have come before.
But few can establish themselves in Qilin Valley.
As for Master Gan, none of his disciples have been particularly acclaimed geniuses.
Only Bao Xin had some talent.
He was held in high regard by Master Gan.
The more this happens, the less prominent Master Gan’s reputation is, and the fewer resources he can obtain.
The talented disciples also tend to go to other Pill Masters.
Upon returning to the Gan Mansion, the skies were already getting dark.
Senior Brother Pei Mao found Shen Han an empty room to stay in, the conditions were not great, but at least it was spacious and he didn’t have to share a room with others.
Before leaving, Pei Mao also slipped Shen Han two books.
"Falling under Master Gan, for us unfortunates who want to stay here, everything has to depend on ourselves.
During the day, it’s all chores, at night, you just have to work hard on your own."
"Thank you for your guidance, Senior Brother Pei."
Shen Han took the books and expressed his gratitude to Pei Mao.
After Pei Mao left, Shen Han first examined the surroundings.
This area seemed to be where all the disciples lived.
The skies had already darkened, and inside each room, it seemed lights were on for reading.
It seemed life in Qilin Valley was not easy for everyone.
Shen Han was not a lazy person by nature, and returning to his room, he also began to look through these books.
Before reading, Shen Han habitually glanced at the floating entries on the book.
[Somewhat Flawed Book]
Seeing this gray entry on the book made Shen Han slightly cautious.
Some issues may have minor problems that do not cause too much impact.
But this is, after all, related to Medicine-Refining Technique and Pill Art.
Other things may have some errors, but there can be no problem with Pills.
If there are problems, in minor cases, it just affects the medicine’s efficacy or makes pill formation difficult.
In major cases, the Pills might turn into poison.
Shen Han quickly browsed through and noted down all the places he had doubts.
After reading, Shen Han removed the gray entry and attached the [Simple and Easy to Learn] entry.
Re-reading this book, Shen Han started to see its worth.
The Pill-Refining Technique in Qilin Valley was indeed different from the other Pill-Refining methods outside.
In all things, the person is primary, everything else is secondary.
Other Pills are all just to assist people.
Whether for healing or enhancement, these Pills are auxiliary, just lending a hand.
For instance, Pills that accelerate the cultivation of practitioners, the underlying principle is also to hasten the absorption of the Heaven and Earth’s Momentum by practitioners.
But fundamentally, practitioners must absorb it themselves.
However, Qilin Valley’s Pills form a distinct line of thought.
The logic of Qilin Valley’s Pills is to imbue the Heaven and Earth’s Momentum into the Pills.
After refinement, you can obtain enhancement simply by swallowing.
Even the extraction and absorption step has been done by these Pills.
It’s no wonder that Qilin Valley’s Pills are so revered.
For practitioners with severe injuries, their bodies can no longer convert the Heaven and Earth’s Momentum.
External Pills, no matter how they assist, are meaningless to them.
If the main body is not functional, support becomes pointless.
And naturally, these people’s eyes fell upon Qilin Valley’s Pills.
Their injuries indeed require Qilin Valley’s Pills for healing.
This is why Qilin Valley’s Pills are so highly sought after.
After clarifying the basic logic, Shen Han continued reading.
Among the doubts he had just recorded, some were indeed his own misunderstandings.
Not understanding the pharmacology of Qilin Valley’s Pills led to quite a number of misconceptions.
But there were places where the book was actually wrong.
Including when Shen Han first watched Qu Zhongjin refine Pills, he was puzzled by his use of such intense fire.
The book previously mentioned [Refine with high heat, using weak medicinal courage].
But after removing the gray entry, the descriptions in the book changed a bit.
The content changed to [Short refinement with strong fire, timing to be cautious, using weak medicinal courage].
Here it began to emphasize the importance of brevity, as refining with strong fire would definitely lead to rapid loss of the medicine’s properties.
The medicines used in Qilin Valley are vigorous in their properties.
The book also spoke of the courage of the medicine, but refining with the intense fire like Qu Zhongjin did is absolutely unsuitable.
Additionally, there were several errors in the processing methods of some herbs.
