Since they caught the culprit red-handed, naturally it’s time for the much-anticipated confession from the murderer. As expected, Lady Chiken also explained her motive; it turned out that this incident was planned by her and the gourmet detective Mr. Ojo. Mr. Ojo somehow heard about the treasure and the rumored secrets of Twilight Manor, so he invested everything to buy this manor, attempting to find the Secret Treasure of Twilight Manor together with Chiken Nobutomo.
However, whether due to lack of intelligence or bad luck, they never found it. To purchase this manor, Mr. Ojo borrowed a substantial amount of money from the bank, originally hoping to repay the loan by becoming wealthy after discovering the Secret Treasure. But as the treasure was nowhere to be found and the repayment date approached, he eventually came up with this desperate plan.
Initially, Chiken Nobutomo agreed to cooperate with him, but unexpectedly she betrayed him, directly using poison on the handle of a cup to eliminate this unfortunate gourmet detective.
Lady Chiken’s actions were not solely for the treasure. In fact, her father was once an outstanding archaeologist. Decades ago, Uramaru Renya invited many people, including Lady Chiken’s father, to Twilight Manor to investigate the rumored Secret Treasure.
No one uncovered the secret, and Uramaru Renya killed them all — Hearing this, Fang Zheng and Conan exchanged a glance.
This kind of ruthless silencing indeed bears the same sinister resemblance as the Black Organization’s methods.
As for Chiken Nobutomo, it wasn’t until many years later that she noticed the hint in her father’s letter. Although her father wrote letters assuring safety after going to Uramaru Renya’s Twilight Manor, it’s clear now those letters were checked, forcing her father to use a needle to create a hidden letter revealing the truth to his daughter. Unfortunately, when Chiken Nobutomo discovered the truth, she was already old.........
Now, Lady Chiken has only one wish.
"I hope to solve this mystery, so I can be at peace even when I die."
"............"
After listening to Lady Chiken’s confession, everyone was silent for a moment. Then Fang Zheng looked at Conan and made a "please proceed" gesture.
He certainly wasn’t going to solve any mysteries.
And Conan lived up to expectations, solving the mystery under the watchful eyes of all. Since the room contained only one clock in the living room, Conan identified it as the source of the riddle. Following the hints, he turned the clock’s hands several times. Subsequently, the heavy dial dropped, hitting the floor, revealing the pure gold dial beneath the chipped paint.
However.........
"Is that it?"
Looking at the pure gold dial before her, Chiken Nobutomo showed a disappointed expression. She wasn’t alone; the others felt quite disheartened as well. It was the 21st century now, and although a pure gold dial was somewhat surprising, it hardly qualified as a "Secret Treasure."
Of course, considering this was left by Uramaru Renya’s ancestors, likely dating back to the seventeenth or eighteenth century, during those times, a pure gold dial would indeed be deemed a Secret Treasure.
After all, gold was scarcely available back then.
"I didn’t expect my father died for this........."
To Lady Chiken, the blow was even greater. If the Secret Treasure was indeed genuine, at least she could find some solace. But a mere pure gold dial...... What use is it?
Just then, a rumbling sound suddenly came from outside.
"What’s happening?"
"Is it an earthquake?"
Feeling the ground shaking, everyone was startled. Thankfully, Japan is a country prone to earthquakes, and everyone is accustomed to them by now. They quickly left the manor, retreating to an open space outside.
What unfolded before them stunned them.
As the ground shook violently, the exterior walls of Twilight Manor gradually crumbled, revealing its interior — Ablaze in golden glory, it was solid gold!
The entire Twilight Manor was built of gold!
"You’re kidding.........
Seeing this, Ran was dumbfounded.
"Is this manor really built from gold? How much gold is that......
"One can only say money knows no bounds."
Fang Zheng shrugged his shoulders; only earthlings would be moved by so much gold, he felt nothing. In the universe, there are plenty of planetary and asteroid-like metallic bodies. If Ran wanted, Fang Zheng could even take her to see asteroids made entirely of diamonds, gold, silver, or copper, for pure enjoyment......
He’s seen quite a few planets the size of the moon made entirely of gold before; initially amazed, now completely unfazed.
Other than remarking on how dumb the house builder was, Fang Zheng had no other thoughts.
It’s just that it’s truly unfortunate that the gourmet detective died unjustly; a manor built entirely of gold would fetch at least hundreds of billions — Though Fang Zheng also realized that it wasn’t entirely gold. Instead, it seemed constructed normally inside, with a layer of gold resembling insulation walls, then another layer added outside. Otherwise, this mystery wouldn’t have remained unsolved for so many years.
But for everyone else, including Conan, watching the golden glow of the manor, they were completely speechless.
A pure gold villa!
They’ve only heard of such things in fairy tales; who has actually seen such a spectacle!
Even Kogoro Mouri was staring wide-eyed, eager to knock off a chunk to take home......
But.........
"What’s wrong? Do you have another question?"
Seeing Fang Zheng holding a kitten and pondering, Conan approached.
"The name."
"Name?"
"This manor is called Twilight Manor, right? Considering its appearance, why not call it Golden Manor?"
"Probably to avoid being discovered, after all, naming it Golden is too straightforward."
Ran also heard Fang Zheng’s query and gave her own answer, but Fang Zheng pondered for a moment.
"I still plan to stay another day, wait until dusk to see the situation."
Hearing Fang Zheng’s decision, no one opposed it. They were indeed very interested in the name of Twilight Manor. Knowing now that it’s made entirely of gold, they were even more intrigued. Perhaps the name Twilight Manor has another purpose?
So, they stayed another day at Twilight Manor, and had a splendid sleep in the golden room because such an experience is rare in a lifetime—missing out would be a huge waste!
At the same time, they marveled at how the gourmet detective was so obsessed. Perhaps initially, Mr. Ojo thought the so-called Secret Treasure was a pile of antique gold and silver treasures, afraid that sight could lead to a claim of ownership, hence the thought of killing everyone after unlocking the secret. But in reality, even if you gave it to them, they couldn’t carry it away... Of course, unless someone among them could turn into Ultraman.
Of course, talking about these things now is futile. The nominal owner of this manor is dead, but if it were ordinary unowned property, the bank would surely reclaim it for loan collateral. However, with this "Golden Hall," it’s not easy to say—gold is so valuable, and covering an entire manor with gold would stir global gold markets significantly.
Finally, the sun set.
It was time for twilight.
Fang Zheng, cradling a little kitten, stood outside the manor, gazing ahead, while others stood not far away. Soon after, the sun slowly set, and then a ray of light shone on the golden rooftop, reflecting a dazzling radiance...
"It’s light reflection!!"
Conan’s expression immediately brightened upon seeing this!
"This is the principle of light reflection!"
"Oh?"
Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng immediately understood Conan’s meaning; he had encountered similar scenarios in the Demon Beast World game where doors opened using this method. Players had to insert a Magic Wand into a map model, with radiance passing through the gemstone on the wand’s surface and illuminating a specific spot on the map model to open the door—this was a homage to a scene from an Indiana Jones film, leaving a strong impression on Fang Zheng.
Little did he know that a similar design existed here.
"In the courtyard!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Conan hurried to the courtyard with the others following quickly. When they pushed open the door, they were swiftly captivated by the courtyard’s view.
The entire courtyard was radiant, resembling a sea of gold under countless reflections of golden light. More importantly, at the center of this golden sea on the ground, lay a crest.
It was a wing.
A golden wing.
As time ticked away, the sun slowly sank into the horizon, and at the same time, the crest on the courtyard ground gradually disappeared.
Seeing this, Fang Zheng furrowed his brow slightly.
It seems this was the final clue.
Afterwards, Fang Zheng called the Metropolitan Police Department to report the situation. Upon hearing about a manor constructed entirely of gold, the police officials were shocked, quickly escalating the report to higher-ups, and requested Fang Zheng guard the site to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering—the bridge had been demolished by Chiken Nobutomo and others, so unauthorized personnel couldn’t access even if they wanted to.
Soon, a helicopter arrived at the scene, sealing off the entire manor, removing the corpse of the ill-fated detective, while the culprit, Chiken Nobutomo, was apprehended. How to deal with this Golden Manor now falls to senior officials, irrelevant to Fang Zheng.
But the most important thing at hand was that wing.
Upon returning home, Fang Zheng immediately discussed the wing issue with Conan. The Uramaru Renya family crest is a crow, yet the ground crest was a wing, which itself raises substantive questions.
"This should be the crest of some family as well."
Looking at the photograph Fang Zheng captured, Conan appeared serious.
"What do you think, Mr. Fang Zheng?"
"There’s a possibility Uramaru Renya might just be another clue..."
Fang Zheng gazed at the photo with a somber expression, beginning to doubt earlier thoughts might have been wrong.
"Remember? Chiken Nobutomo once mentioned how Uramaru Renya sought many scholars to unravel this mystery. But was he truly after Secret Treasure? Uramaru Renya is a wealthy person; sure, this pile of gold might seem like a windfall to ordinary folks, but for Uramaru Renya, it would be nothing more than icing on the cake. Unlike the unfortunate detective desperate enough to take risky measures due to bank loans, was it feasible to threaten scholars into unlocking this mystery?"
"So you’re suggesting Uramaru Renya wasn’t actually looking for gold, instead aiming to discover this crest?!"
"That’s a possibility, and the secret hidden behind this crest could be what truly warrants our attention..."
At this point, Fang Zheng shook his head, realizing his previous thoughts might have been misguided. Initially, Fang Zheng subconsciously assumed the head of the Black Organization was this world’s "GM," however considering all evidence now, it seems not the case. If Uramaru Renya truly is the boss of Black Organization, it implies he is similarly seeking this crest. It suggests the crest is crucial, leading him to the world’s "GM."
In contrast, Uramaru Renya is nothing more than a clue.
Nonetheless, Belmod certainly did a commendable job this time, pushing us forward considerably!
Next, once we find the clues related to this crest, the rest should merely be a matter of time!!
