"Clang! Clang!!"
Swords clashed.
Fang Zheng swung the greatsword in his hands with force, blocking the Kobold Lord’s axe strike. Then he lifted his hands upward, causing the Kobold Lord’s attack to be deflected. Simultaneously, Ester leaped from the side, her longsword emanating a dazzling brilliance, which scattered and pierced the Kobold Lord’s body.
"Awooooo!!!"
The attacked Kobold Lord immediately raised its shield and smashed it toward Ester. Ester swiftly rolled backward while, from the other side, Restia quickly moved to fill the gap. She unleashed a piercing strike with her sword skill. Simultaneously, Fang Zheng raised his greatsword high and swung it down forcefully!
"Boom!!"
With the sound of shattering, the next moment the Kobold Lord knelt to the ground, leading Fang Zheng to step forward with his greatsword—damn this game for not allowing executions!!
This is so frustrating!
Seeing the reduced health of the Kobold Lord after his strike, Fang Zheng cursed internally. In this crappy online game world, everything is data, and even with the bonus of vital attacks, it’s impossible to take down a BOSS instantly...
If this were the Black Soul World, whether you’re the Nameless King or the King of Salary’s incarnation, watch me explode your dog head with this sword!
With no other choice, Fang Zheng withdrew his sword and retreated. Almost immediately, the Kobold Lord stood up violently, swinging his axe at Fang Zheng.
After engaging with the first layer Lord for a moment, Fang Zheng had almost figured out this BOSS’s tactics. Specifically, considering it’s the first BOSS, in any game, the first BOSS either helps players familiarize themselves with various BOSS battle skills or tests players’ mastery of character skills. Once these two points are mastered, apart from the BOSS having slightly higher attack damage, more health, and larger attack range, it holds no other threats by itself.
If this were just a regular online game, this Kobold Lord would have long been thrashed by players hundreds of times. The reason it’s still living comfortably is solely because this death game’s twisted setup makes players too afraid to take risks.
Unfortunately, having encountered Fang Zheng, this BOSS’s wonderful life concludes here...
"So amazing...!!"
As Fang Zheng and his team fought fiercely, on the other side of the hall, Yuna and Agil were excitedly clenching their hands, watching the battle unfold not far away. Although they weren’t seasoned players, they could see that the current situation looked very promising.
Fang Zheng, together with Ester and Restia, distracted the boss BOSS while wearing it down. Nearby, Leafa and Black Cat, Gabriel and Aoba, Yuki, and Asuna formed three teams respectively to handle the Kobold Guards.
Under their fierce attacks, the three Kobold Guards didn’t show any remarkable performance and were completely overwhelmed. If it weren’t for being BOSS battle’s minions with higher defense and health than usual creatures, they would’ve probably perished long ago.
Only Eiriri stood a bit behind the others, holding a dagger while cautiously surveying the battlefield. As a Dagger Wielder, Eiriri’s attack power wasn’t high, so Fang Zheng didn’t make her participate in the battle. Instead, she stayed back, utilizing her keen observational skills to monitor the battlefield so that in case of any unexpected situations, they could be handled well.
"I want to record this battle!"
Yuna quickly opened the system and began recording the battle before her eyes. This moment was the players’ first step toward challenge, and as things stood, these people should be able to defeat—not just should, they absolutely will defeat the first layer BOSS. She wouldn’t miss this historic moment!
"Gahhhhh!!"
The Kobold Guard screamed again, pouncing forward. By now its HP was nearly at its end, yet even so, Aoba stood before it without letting her guard down. She raised the shield in her hand, blocking in front of her, allowing the Kobold Guard’s hammer to smash heavily onto the shield. She then forcefully pushed forward.
"Gabriel!"
"Got it!"
Gabriel, holding a one-handed hammer, sprinted over from the side. She then swung the hammerhead forward.
"In the name of Angels, I’ll send you to Hell!"
"Boom!!"
With Gabriel’s words, the one-handed hammer in her hand swung mercilessly, smashing down on the Kobold Guard’s head. Instantly, the Kobold Guard’s remaining HP cleared to zero, screaming as it shattered into fragments and vanished into the air.
"Phew..."
Seeing the enemy disappear before her, Aoba let out a sigh of relief. But at this moment, Eiriri’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear.
"Aoba, watch out to your right, there’s a respawn!"
If it were the newly-entered Aoba, she might have been totally confused by now. But now, upon hearing Eiriri’s warning, although Aoba herself hadn’t realized what was happening, her body had already reacted instinctively from training, quickly turning around and raising the shield to protect her chest and stomach vitals.
"Whoosh!!"
Only then did Aoba witness a long spear descending from the sky, grazing the edge of her shield and shoulder. Then, a Kobold Soldier screamed and jumped down, crashing into her shield!
"Hey!"
Aoba reacted, hurriedly smacking the shield forward, striking the Kobold Soldier’s head. Gabriel then rushed over from the side and smashed it flying with her hammer.
"Are you okay, Aoba?"
"I’m... I’m fine, Gabriel. Just lost a little HP."
Saying this, Aoba breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at her HP. Luckily, her HP was within the safe line. Due to her timely defense earlier, the creature had only taken a small part of her HP, not enough to force her out of the battle.
Aoba caught her breath, then tightly gripped her weapon.
"Let’s keep going!"
Minutes ticked by, the battle ahead raged intensely, while behind, Yuna and Agil watched anxiously, cold sweat in their hands. Several times, they had the urge to jump in and join the fight. But remembering the words said by that man before the fight, they calmed their eager hearts and watched the battle gradually reach its conclusion...
"————Roar!!"
Suddenly, a deafening roar sounded. Hearing the roar, almost everyone simultaneously looked toward the sound, seeing the Kobold Lord’s HP dropping to the critical red alert line!
"You must succeed!!"
Seeing this, Yuna and Agil couldn’t contain their excitement, itching to rush in and help Fang Zheng and the others finish off the first layer Lord. However, at this moment, the Kobold Lord suddenly raised both hands, tossing away its shield and axe, then drew the taidao from its back!
Attack mode switch!
After pulling out the Taidao, the Kobold Lord instantly changed from its originally steady approach. It leaped suddenly, planting a foot on the nearby pillar, vaulting over the defensive line formed by Fang Zheng, Restia, and Ester, rushing towards Leafa and Black Cat who were engaging with the smaller creatures!
"Not good!!"
Seeing this, both Yuna and Agil’s faces changed dramatically. Although they weren’t fighting on the frontlines, they understood the disastrous outcome if the creatures broke through the defenses. Not to mention, Leafa and Black Cat were focused on tackling the Kobold Soldiers, having no time to spare for the descending BOSS!
However, at this moment, they saw Eiriri, who had been standing in the arena all along, suddenly move!
The blonde twin-tail girl lowered her stance, her dagger emitting a dazzling radiance of sword skills. Then Eiriri, like an arrow released from a bowstring, leaped forward, both person and sword transforming into a light beam charging towards the Kobold Lord.
Facing the descending Taidao of the Kobold Lord, Eiriri unhesitatingly thrust out her sword, striking against the blade!
"Bang!!"
If it were in the real world, Eiriri’s dagger couldn’t possibly contend against the Kobold Lord’s Taidao. But in this game world, things were entirely different. As Eiriri’s dagger struck the Taidao, the BOSS’s weapon immediately followed the game’s rule, bouncing back.
With this strike, the Kobold Lord lost balance, flipping backward in the air.
"Whoosh!!"
The pitch-black Greatsword came whistling, straight hitting the Kobold Lord’s back, knocking it to the ground!
"Boom!!"
The Kobold Lord slammed heavily into the ground, while the Greatsword that struck it flipped and flew backward. At the same time, Fang Zheng leaped up suddenly, grasped the spinning Greatsword in mid-air, firmly held it with both hands, and forcefully struck down at the Kobold Lord!
The icy blade pierced the Kobold Lord’s head, and this time the Kobold Lord’s defense finally reached its limit. Its head, along with its body, was directly split by Fang Zheng’s sword. The next moment, amidst a wail, the massive body of the Kobold Lord fragmented and disappeared into information scraps in the air.
"Bang bang bang!!"
With the fall of the Kobold Lord, the small creatures originally besieging Fang Zheng and others also shattered and vanished, a melodious horn sound echoed, and a line of information appeared before everyone’s eyes.
[The Dark Moon Sword Guild has successfully defeated the first-floor Lord, the passage between the first and second floor is officially opened!]
Accompanying this information, the wall ahead slowly descended, revealing the hidden staircase within.
"We did it!!"
Incredulously staring at the scene before her, Aoba was stunned for a moment, then she hugged Gabriel tightly. Yuki and Asuna excitedly high-fived in celebration, Leafa stood in place dumbly, gripping her Taidao, seemingly still processing what had happened, while Black Cat huffed coldly, raising her head proudly with an evil laugh.
"Mere Kobolds, how could they be a match for me, the Fallen Saint Black Cat? In the face of our mighty strength, even deities are not real opponents!"
"Phew......"
Only Eiriri let out a sigh of relief, then sat down heavily, lowered her head, looked at her trembling hands, and couldn’t help but smile a little.
"I really didn’t expect I could actually do it...... hahaha, I can brag to that annoying Shiyu of Misty Hill after going back!"
"Well done."
Seeing the excited and thrilled girls before him, Fang Zheng sheathed his sword and nodded contentedly.
"To be honest, I didn’t expect them to do so well."
Restia also walked over at this point, watching the celebration scene of the girls with a hint of reflection. After all, in her view, these girls were just ordinary people, not even as skilled as the Priestess Princesses of her world. They’d picked up weapons to start fighting, and it’s only been these brief ten days. But now, they’ve successfully crossed the first step......
"Alright! Enough talking about this!"
Fang Zheng clapped his hands vigorously.
"Everyone, it’s time to open the chest!"
Hearing Fang Zheng’s voice, the girls hurriedly gathered around him, looking at the treasure chest that appeared along with the disappearance of the Kobold Lord.
"Who’s opening the chest this time?"
"......Hmm, Gabriel, you do it."
Fang Zheng paused for a moment, then appointed Gabriel. He himself wasn’t going to open the chest anymore, but now, almost everyone on his side had obtained excellent weapons, except for him. This time......no matter what, it should be his turn to get something.
"Alright, leave it to me."
Hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Gabriel’s eyes brightened, she rubbed her hands, then approached the chest and opened it.
A dazzling golden light emerged, seeing this brilliant glow, everyone couldn’t help but sigh in admiration, while Gabriel reached inside the chest and took out a......
"What’s this thing?"
Looking at the guitar-like item before him, Fang Zheng was utterly speechless. Everyone else also gathered around, curiously staring at this odd object in Gabriel’s hand. It didn’t resemble a weapon at all, from its appearance, it looked more like a musical instrument...
"This......seems to be called a lute?"
"......Wasn’t that Miss Yuna just performing with this earlier?"
".........."
Fang Zheng glanced at the lute in Gabriel’s hand, then turned his head back to look at Yuna standing not far away, uncertain if she should approach... I’ve calculated everything so precisely, and you actually give me this? Are you kidding me! You’d rather hand out an equipment not meant for our team, than give me a Two-Handed Sword? Are you trying to drive me crazy?
Who’s in charge of planning this crappy game? Come out and let’s battle for three hundred rounds!!! See if I don’t cut you down!!!
