"How could this be..."
Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Mel lowered her head powerlessly.
"I really tried not to follow the routine of cheating transmigrators..."
"Hahaha."
Hearing Mel’s complaint, Fang Zheng laughed out loud.
"It seems you still don’t understand."
"Huh?"
Hearing this, Mel was taken aback and looked up towards Fang Zheng.
"Mr. Fang Zheng?"
"Why do you think transmigrators cheat? Why do they act superior? Do you think they just can’t stand being lonely?"
"This..."
"The reason is simple: your worldview and values are completely different from the people of this world."
As he spoke, Fang Zheng gestured towards Meiyin.
"Take Meiyin, for example. What do you think her life is like? Let me tell you, if she hadn’t been reborn and was just an ordinary little girl of this world, what would it be like? First, after receiving the baptism, she would become an apprentice craftsman, like her mother. Then, around the age of fourteen, her family would marry her off. She’d get married, have children, and work as a craftsman. She might lead a tough life or even a poor one, but that’s the situation for the commoners of this world. Do you think you want that kind of life? Does Meiyin want that kind of life?"
"......"
Both of them shook their heads, especially Meiyin—she really did not want it.
"That’s it, why do transmigrators try to change the world? Because they can’t adapt to this world. Can you adapt? Nobles can easily decide the life and death of commoners with just a word. They don’t even need to provide evidence; if they feel that these commoners are troublesome, they can wipe out their entire family. Does it seem cruel? But that’s the norm in this world. Neither nobles nor commoners take issue with it. Instead, if you stand up against it, you’d be seen as an idiot or a lunatic by others..."
"This..."
"Either change the world or change yourself. That’s the predicament transmigrators face."
Fang Zheng spread his hands.
"It’s the same for you. If you don’t want to learn and accept the rules of this world, then make yourself strong enough to set those rules. So now you understand why transmigrators make their choices? Do you think they really don’t want to live a good life and just enjoy causing trouble? Take now, for example. A transmigrator just wanting to live an ordinary life like modern people. It’s a normal wish, right? But the things you have to do for it... Meiyin, you should know what it would lead to."
"Mm..."
Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Meiyin nodded with a bitter expression. When she first started making shampoo, she just wanted to wash her hair, which is a basic need for girls in modern times. However, Meiyin didn’t expect that such a small thing could cause such a sensation, leading to her connecting with the business association and successfully earning her first pot of gold... It’s incredible just thinking about it.
Mel’s expression also turned a bit peculiar, reminding her of the time after reincarnating into this world when she, being unaccustomed to the underwear here, decided to make her own. The women’s underwear of this world was neither breathable nor convenient for movement, so Mel came up with an idea, using the principle of tie-string swimwear, to make something akin to a loincloth. But when her friends found out, they forcibly revised it under the excuse of it being inappropriate.
Thinking of this...
"Um... Mr. Fang Zheng?"
Mel shyly lifted her head, looking at Fang Zheng.
"I, I have something... I want to ask you for help with..."
"Hm? What is it?"
"Well, it’s just..."
Mel lowered her head as she spoke. After all, she had barely talked to boys in her previous life, let alone bringing up a topic like underwear with one, especially when Fang Zheng was so handsome...
"It’s... that... un... un... underwear..."
"Oh, got it."
Mel’s voice was as quiet as a mosquito, barely audible, but Fang Zheng nodded in understanding. After all, he was genuinely clueless about what kind of underwear women in this world wore.
"I’ll get some arranged for you all, and you can tell others that they can use it if needed. Any other questions?"
"No, none! Pardon me, goodbye!!"
After saying this, Mel turned bright red and dashed out of the room, leaving Meiyin still looking at her back in confusion, not understanding the situation.
"You should rest too, Meiyin. I’ll call you when things are ready. By the way, how are your parents doing here?"
"Great, it’s just... my father doesn’t seem to have fully adjusted to this lifestyle..."
At this point, Meiyin couldn’t help but smile wryly. Because Meiyin’s father used to be a soldier at the city gates, Fang Zheng arranged for him to work as a security officer overseeing the entire castle. To Meiyin’s father, who was used to standing at the gates under the sun and rain all day, sitting in the security room watching monitors and sipping hot tea was completely unadaptable. According to his own words, this felt more like a vacation than work...
This made Meiyin’s father worry several times about whether his work attitude would get him kicked out by the noble lord. So much so that he even put down his work in the security room to go stand guard at the door.
However, to Meiyin, there are clearly closed-circuit monitors at the door, and standing guard there is pointless!
She had spent a long time, trying earnestly to finally persuade her father back...
"You’ll get used to it, take it slow."
"Knock knock knock."
At this moment, the bedroom door was knocked again, followed by a blonde girl in a maid outfit walking in.
"Sorry to interrupt, Lord Fang Zheng."
"Kiare, what’s the matter?"
Seeing the maid before him, Fang Zheng smiled slightly and asked. The maid was none other than the girl Kiare, whom Fang Zheng had rescued from Eight Fingers. After being saved, she started working as a maid there, and until now, Kiare had been working diligently and seriously, earning Fang Zheng’s trust.
"The members of Blue Rose have come to see you, saying they have something important to discuss."
"Blue Rose?"
Hearing this name was somewhat unexpected for Fang Zheng, but he nodded nonetheless.
"Let them in."
"Alright."
Quickly, the members of Blue Rose were led into Fang Zheng’s room, and upon seeing him, the masked girl jumped up.
"Hello, long time no see, Your Excellency Fang Zheng!"
"Ah, it really has been a while. Please sit, have some tea."
Looking at the masked girl, Fang Zheng also smiled and greeted her. The masked girl clenched her hands to her chest, appearing somewhat overwhelmed... but was quickly pulled away by the captain, Radis.
"Sorry for bothering you amidst your busy schedule, Your Excellency Fang Zheng."
Facing Fang Zheng, Radis’s attitude was noticeably more respectful than before. She had no choice but to act this way. Before arriving, Radis considered Fang Zheng a powerful figure in a mysterious force, but after coming to the ancient castle, Radis had immediately changed her mind.
Not to mention, the castle’s interior decorations were something she had never seen before, even when playing with Princess Lana. Some items were not even present in the royal family, yet could be found all around the castle, exuding sheer opulence... This was more than enough to prove Fang Zheng and his backing’s substantial power.
Soon, Kiare served tea to everyone, then quietly retreated with Meiyin.
"So, what is it you want to discuss with me?"
Fang Zheng took a sip of coffee, then asked. Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Radis became serious, staring at him.
"In fact, Your Excellency Fang Zheng, we’ve come with an important request... Have you heard of the Witch Cult?"
"Witch Cult? Not really clear."
Fang Zheng thought for a moment, then shook his head.
"It’s a southern cult organization, with highly fanatical members whose strength is formidable. To be honest, many countries have attempted to eradicate them but have failed. There’s even been royal families and high officials of nations who suffered from the Witch Cult’s fierce retaliation..."
"Basically a bunch of terrorists with zero sanity value, right? So what? What does this have to do with us?"
"Well, recent intelligence suggests the presence of Witch Cultists near the border between our Re-Estize Kingdom and Lugnica, with unclear intentions. Princess Lana is worried the Witch Cult might take advantage of our fight against Eight Fingers to infiltrate our nation, so she’s entrusting us to investigate. There are rumors that a high-ranking member of the Witch Cult—the Archbishop of Sin—is involved, which is why we’re seeking your help, Your Excellency Fang Zheng."
"Hmm..."
Hearing Radis’s request, Fang Zheng fell into deep thought. During this time, he had been idly monitoring Lina Inverse and the others, and after eliminating the Demon Lord Shabranigdo’s avatar, the trio had split up, leaving Lina and Takasato to continue their lovey-dovey travels, while Gerugandis went to find a way to restore his body... Speaking of which, when will that King of the Underworld take action already? There have been so many times watching Lina and Takasato’s lovey-dovey antics that Fang Zheng almost wanted to take on the role of the Underworld King myself and force Lina to unleash Heavy Break Slash...
Instead of constantly watching these two flaunt their affection, it’ll be better to go out and find something else to occupy oneself, and the Witch Cult... they must be quite flammable.
"Alright."
With this thought, Fang Zheng nodded.
"I accept."
