The middle-aged manРІР‚в„ўs face turned somewhat unpleasant, tightly gripping the piece of paper with the phone number.
Little Pang noticed and his expression became a bit tense.
"Sir, IРІР‚в„ўve already asked a friend to get the phone number for you as you requested, please be sure to give me a good review."
The middle-aged man ignored Little PangРІР‚в„ўs words, his expression looking worse and worse.
Through this incident, he finally realized that his girlfriend had been lying to him all along, which made him a bit angry.
After helping Little Pang, Ye Chen went back to the delivery point to pick up a package.
Huayuan District.
"Just look at you, apart from work, you stay at home all day and donРІР‚в„ўt get yourself a boyfriend," the middle-aged woman on the sofa said disapprovingly to her daughter.
The girl replied with a smile: "IРІР‚в„ўm still young, my main focus is on my career; thereРІР‚в„ўs no rush yet."
"YouРІР‚в„ўre already twenty-nine and not in a rush? Kids of my friends your age already have children."
The middle-aged woman continued, "Because of you, IРІР‚в„ўm embarrassed to face my friends."
"Mom, donРІР‚в„ўt feel embarrassed to see them because of me," the girl said impatiently.
"Whenever I see them, they always ask if you have a boyfriend and when youРІР‚в„ўre getting married. I donРІР‚в„ўt know how to answer," the middle-aged woman said helplessly.
"Oh, my affairs have nothing to do with them, right?" the girl said indifferently.
"You really donРІР‚в„ўt know how to appreciate it, those aunties are just concerned about you," the middle-aged woman said.
Though she disagreed internally, the girl said nothing.
Seeing her daughter silent, the middle-aged woman said, "Since youРІР‚в„ўre not finding one yourself, IРІР‚в„ўve asked someone to introduce you, and donРІР‚в„ўt be late for the meeting."
"Another matchmaking session? When will it end?" the girl showed a displeased expression, clearly unhappy with her motherРІР‚в„ўs arrangement.
"I can see it now, youРІР‚в„ўre on track to grow old alone," the middle-aged woman snorted coldly.
"Mom, do you have to say it like that? I even wonder if IРІР‚в„ўm your biological daughter," the girl said with an ugly expression, pouting.
Just as the middle-aged woman was about to say something else, there was a knock at the door. Ye Chen stood at the entrance with a package.
The door opened, and a girl in pink polka-dot pajamas with long hair draping over her shoulders stood at the door.
Seeing Ye Chen standing there, the girlРІР‚в„ўs expression was somewhat surprised.
"This handsome guy is incredibly charming, even in a delivery uniform."
Ye Chen smiled and said, "HereРІР‚в„ўs your package, please sign for it."
The girl stood there, dumbfounded.
Seeing her daughter stand at the door, the middle-aged woman asked, "WhoРІР‚в„ўs here? Why arenРІР‚в„ўt they coming in?"
As she spoke, she walked towards the door. Watching her mother approach, the girl suddenly embraced Ye Chen and said, "Mom, actually, I lied to you. I do have a boyfriend, but heРІР‚в„ўs just a delivery guy, and I never told you."
Seeing her daughter holding a man close, with hardly any distance between their bodies, the middle-aged woman pulled both her daughter and Ye Chen inside, saying, "You really are too open, hugging a man in the hallway in broad daylight. How would I face the neighbors?"
"Mom, when I didnРІР‚в„ўt have a boyfriend, you were worried. Now that I have one, youРІР‚в„ўre still unhappy. Give me a break," the girl said with displeasure on her face.
The middle-aged woman gave her daughter a look and said, "You actually had the nerve to have a delivery guy pretend to be your boyfriend just to fool me. You do have some nerve."
Then she turned to Ye Chen with an apologetic look and said, "I’m really sorry. My daughter loves to mess around—did she scare you?"
The girlРІР‚в„ўs sudden action did indeed startle Ye Chen, but having experienced plenty of ups and downs, he quickly regained his composure.
"Mom, he really is my boyfriend. Are you looking down on his job?" the girl said firmly.
That statement hit the middle-aged woman right where it hurt. She looked at her daughter and said, "Marriage isnРІР‚в„ўt a game. ShouldnРІР‚в„ўt you think it over?"
The girl ignored her motherРІР‚в„ўs words and instead turned to Ye Chen and smiled, "IРІР‚в„ўll go change. Wait for me here, okay?"
Leaving only Ye Chen and the middle-aged woman in the living room, the two of them exchanged looks.
"Young man, how old are you?" the middle-aged woman asked.
"IРІР‚в„ўm twenty-six," Ye Chen answered.
"Tian Tian is three years older than you. You donРІР‚в„ўt mind?"
Ye Chen smiled and said, "Women three years older are like holding a golden brick."
Upon hearing Ye ChenРІР‚в„ўs words, the middle-aged woman nearly flared her nostrils in anger.
"So young—why are you working as a delivery guy? Isn’t this job going nowhere?"
Ye Chen thought, WhatРІР‚в„ўs wrong with delivering packages? IРІР‚в„ўm earning my keep without stealing or robbing anyone.
"I think itРІР‚в„ўs great; the work is flexible, and I meet lots of people," Ye Chen said mildly.
At this moment, the girl emerged from the room wearing a black lace top and a short skirt, her face adorned with a meticulously applied light makeup, a small purse in hand.
Ye Chen thought it was fortunate the girl changed quickly; otherwise, who knows what else the middle-aged woman might have said to him.
The girl, elegant and charming, smiled gently at Ye Chen: "Shall we go?"
As she spoke, the girl took Ye ChenРІР‚в„ўs arm, appearing very intimate.
"Where are we going?" Ye Chen asked, looking puzzled at the girl.
"To meet my blind date, of course," the girl laughed.
"What?" Ye Chen asked with a confused look, wondering why she was taking him along. Was he supposed to oversee things?
"What, are you scared?" the girl taunted.
"ThereРІР‚в„ўs no such word as РІР‚в„ўfearРІР‚в„ў in my dictionary," Ye Chen said, expressionless.
"If thatРІР‚в„ўs the case, letРІР‚в„ўs go," the girl said as she pulled Ye Chen towards the door.
"Come back here! What kind of situation is that, going to a matchmaking session with a man in tow? How do I explain this to Aunt Zhang? After all, she arranged it for you," the middle-aged woman quickly pulled the girl back.
"Also, I urge you to think it over. This delivery guy doesnРІР‚в„ўt make much in a month; can you really be happy with him?"
Ye Chen thought, What did I ever do to you, always bringing up my job as a delivery guy?
The girl ignored her mother, turning instead to again drag Ye Chen towards the door.
Ye Chen, looking embarrassed, said over his shoulder, "Goodbye, Auntie."
At that moment, the middle-aged womanРІР‚в„ўs face turned ashen, her eyes almost blazing with anger.
Frightening Ye Chen enough to make him shudder, he thought to himself, Where does it all fit in? Suddenly, he had a girlfriend and also managed to incur the wrath of a girlРІР‚в„ўs mother.
