Seeing Wu Simai appear before him, Ye Xuan couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. Thankfully, she arrived just in time. If she had been any later, the situation might have spiraled out of his control.
Ye Xuan hadn’t expected his luck to be so bad this time, with both the Former Dust Mirror and the Three Lives Mirror only showing the segments of his evil deeds, with none of his redemption scenes.
If even a bit of his redemption had been shown, these future immortals wouldn’t have dared to be so arrogant.
“Wu Simai, are you alright?” Ye Xuan asked, looking at the woman before him.
He felt a bit guilty towards this Southern woman. Unlike Qingxue, Yu Ling’er, or the Eastern Sea Dragon Princess, who were originally antagonistic towards him and whom he had to be harsh with for self-preservation, Wu Simai was different.
She was a character whose fate he had written into his script. Originally, her destiny was not fixed. If Ye Xuan hadn’t written her fate so tragically, she wouldn’t have had to endure all those events. But, to be safe, Ye Xuan had to prepare extra measures.
The sins he committed against Nanzhao had to be absolved, and someone needed to witness his redemption firsthand. Thus, someone like Wu Simai was necessary.
Because of this, Ye Xuan felt more guilty towards Wu Simai than towards the other women. However, he did not regret it.
After all, if he didn’t clear his name, Nanzhao would have truly fallen into an eternal abyss as the script dictated. In clearing his own name, he had also saved Nanzhao. He was truly Nanzhao’s benefactor, wasn’t he?
Of course, the Nanzhao Prince didn’t understand what he had done.
“Nothing to worry about, Brother Xuan. I’ve recovered quite well over the years,” Wu Simai smiled in response to Ye Xuan’s inquiry.
Nan Ming stared at the woman before him, his eyes filled with anger. “Wu Simai sister, are you really going to protect Ye Xuan? The entire world saw him ignite the Nether Yin Springs. Are you still going to defend him?!!”
“Prince Nan Ming, there’s no point in talking to such a woman,” Mo Qingshang interjected, “Don’t forget, she betrayed your clan’s rules for Ye Xuan. Now, she’s willing to turn black into white for him. It’s not surprising.”
To be honest, Mo Qingshang almost laughed at this situation. Nanzhao was truly a bizarre country. It wasn’t just that men were allowed to have lovers; men actually permitted women to have lovers as well. It was a country of green hats.
But now he couldn’t laugh. Although everyone knew he was the Divine Emperor Sword Master, he still needed to win over some true followers. So, he had to show support for the Nanzhao Prince.
“Shut up–!!!” Mo Qingshang thought Nan Ming would appreciate his support, but to his surprise, Nan Ming angrily shouted at him, “No one can slander Wu Simai sister. Let her speak–!!!”
“Uh...” Mo Qingshang was stunned. This guy must have a thing for being cuckolded. He was helping, and Nan Ming didn’t appreciate it.
Well, serves him right for being cuckolded–!!!
Ignoring Mo Qingshang’s reaction, Nan Ming asked Wu Simai, “Wu Simai sister, please tell me, are you really going to protect Ye Xuan and turn black into white?”
“I am not turning black into white,” Wu Simai replied.
“Ridiculous! If that’s not turning black into white, what is–!!!” Dan Muyu sneered. “The entire world saw Ye Xuan detonate the Nether Yin Springs to temper his Demon Emperor Sword. Do you think everyone is blind? Can you deny what everyone witnessed?”
“Hmph, I think you’re the ridiculous ones–!!!” Wu Simai stared at Dan Muyu and said, “You saw Brother Xuan pull out the Demon Emperor Sword and saw the Nether Yin Springs explode, so you assume the two are connected?!!”
“Uh...” Her words left everyone dumbfounded. Could she really argue this? Did she think we were fools?!!
Dan Muyu retorted angrily, “Wu Simai, are you saying Ye Xuan didn’t detonate the Nether Yin Springs? How convenient that the springs exploded just as he was tempering his sword. Do you think we didn’t see it?!!”
“Wu Simai sister, you’ve gone too far–!!!” Nan Ming shouted angrily. “The kind Wu Simai sister I knew would never distort the truth for selfish reasons.”
“Now, you twist facts for your lover. Are you suggesting the Nether Yin Springs exploded on their own? Wu Simai, I’m so disappointed. From today, I won’t call you sister anymore.”
His eyes were filled with sorrow. The woman he had admired since childhood had become so selfish, distorting the truth for her lover. Wu Simai had changed–!!!
“Why can’t the Nether Yin Springs explode on their own?!!” Wu Simai, frustrated by Nan Ming’s anger and his words, retorted, “Who said tempering the Demon Emperor Sword requires detonating the Nether Yin Springs? You?”
“You know nothing, yet you claim to know the truth and want to disrespect Brother Xuan? Let me tell you, you know nothing of the truth. I saw everything. If you don’t listen to the whole story and insist on accusing Brother Xuan wrongly, you are all ungrateful sinners–!!!”
“Uh...” Her words left the cultivators momentarily speechless.
She made a valid point. Who said tempering the Demon Emperor Sword required detonating the Nether Yin Springs? Who said just because Ye Xuan used the springs’ power, he must have detonated them?
Suddenly, the neutral immortals seemed more inclined to help Ye Xuan. After all, without conclusive proof of Ye Xuan’s guilt, the righteous cultivators wouldn’t allow anyone to attack him.
“Hmph–!!!” Seeing this, Dan Muyu glared at Ye Xuan and said, “Wu Simai, you can twist words all you want, but how do you explain Ye Xuan using the Demon Emperor Sword to absorb the souls of Nanzhao people–!!!
