“Annul the engagement?” At this moment, the Ye Xuan in the scene couldn’t help but be slightly startled.
“Annul the engagement? Are you... really going to annul the engagement? What price will you pay?” He asked Wu Simai.
“Actually, it’s not a huge price...” Wu Simai replied, “It’s just some punishment, nothing significant.”
“No, you are lying to me–!” Ye Xuan looked at Wu Simai and said affirmatively, “The price must not be simple. Tell me, what is it?!”
“Nothing at all,” Wu Simai said. “Although it’s a bit troublesome, compared to being with you forever, it’s nothing significant. People who annul their engagement are punished by being sent into the Blood-Soul Cavern.”
“The cavern is filled with venomous insects and snakes, which is dangerous for ordinary people. But for me, it’s nothing. Ye Xuan, have you forgotten? I practice Gu techniques. For someone with high cultivation like me, the Blood-Soul Cavern is just a slightly troublesome place.”
“If I advance further in my cultivation, it might even become a place for practice. After all, we people of Nanzhao are not foolish. How could those with real power be punished to a dead end? Don’t you think so?”
Hearing Wu Simai’s explanation, Ye Xuan breathed a sigh of relief, “So, according to you, this punishment shouldn’t be a big deal for you... Can I go with you?”
“That’s impossible–!” Wu Simai stared at Ye Xuan and said, “Even if we Nanzhao people are generous, allowing lovers between spouses is the limit.”
“You are trying to take the Nanzhao prince’s consort. If you come with me, Nanzhao would be even more furious, and my punishment would be harsher.”
“Uh... that’s true,” Ye Xuan said helplessly. “Is there nothing I can do?”
“I think that’s the case...” Wu Simai said. “Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon. You must wait for me; otherwise, I’ll never forgive you for life.”
“I’ll wait for you,” Ye Xuan replied. “I’ll wait a lifetime... but if you don’t come back within a year, I’ll find you.”
“Hehe, a year is enough,” Wu Simai smiled. “Wait for me, I’ll annul the engagement and return to you.”
Under everyone’s watch, Ye Xuan and Wu Simai in the scene parted ways.
“That Wu Simai must be lying to Ye Xuan. That punishment is definitely not simple.”
“Yes... if it were just a simple punishment, she wouldn’t look so calm.”
“What is the punishment?!” Someone asked the Nanzhao prince.
The Nanzhao prince remained silent, keeping his eyes on the scene. Helplessly, everyone continued watching the scene.
“Wu Simai, are you crazy? You want to annul the engagement?!”
“Wu Simai, have you forgotten the Blood-Soul punishment the Nanzhao High Priestess endured?”
“It’s still not too late to change your mind!”
“Wu Simai, listen to me, run away, you can’t endure the Blood-Soul punishment. Isn’t your lover, Ye Xuan, very powerful? Go with him!”
“Wu Simai, why do you want to annul the engagement with me? Did I anger you?”
“Wu Simai, the High Priestess won’t forgive you, don’t annul the engagement. I don’t mind you having a lover!”
“How about this, be with him first. When I grow up in a few years, come back and have a child with me, and I won’t interfere in your matters.”
“Are Central Plains men so selfish? They’d rather let you suffer than accept your customs?”
“I’ve decided. I love Brother Xuan with all my life. I won’t do anything he dislikes. Sorry, Nan Ming.”
At this moment, Wu Simai was in her room, recalling scenes after returning to the Nanzhao Palace. She didn’t know if her choice was right or wrong, but she couldn’t escape. This was the price for violating clan rules.
“The punishment is indeed not simple–!!!” Mo Qingshang said, watching the scene.
“So, Wu Simai was punished by the Nanzhao people, and Ye Xuan took out his anger on them, igniting the underground fire, burning all of Nanzhao. Though there was a reason, it’s unforgivable–!!!”
“–!!!”
Hearing this, the Nanzhao people reacted, showing understanding expressions.
“That’s it–!!!”
“Because of the prince’s consort, Ye Xuan took out his anger on all of Nanzhao, destroying it... he’s truly unforgivable–!!!”
All the Nanzhao people turned their hatred towards Ye Xuan.
The Blood-Soul punishment remains in the body. If the Nanzhao people don’t punish those who violate the rules, everyone will suffer the backlash. This was Wu Simai’s fault for breaking the rules, not the fault of all Nanzhao.
Ye Xuan destroyed Nanzhao for Wu Simai, leaving only a few people, neither human nor ghost, despised by the world. How could they not be angry at Ye Xuan?!
“Wu Simai...” The Nanzhao prince sighed deeply, thinking of his deceased parents and clan members.
He unconsciously emitted a strong ghostly aura. Was everything because of that incident? Ye Xuan ignited the underground fire, destroying Nanzhao. He could see that, but he wanted to know if that was the cause.
“Dan Muyu, what are you doing–!!!” In the scene, a child angrily protected Wu Simai, glaring at a woman in Nanzhao attire.
“What am I doing?” the woman said. “I’m giving Wu Simai the Blood-Soul punishment. I gave her enough time, but she didn’t repent. Only the Blood-Soul punishment can cleanse her sins!”
“No, you can’t do that–!!!” the young Nanzhao prince said. “I’m the Nanzhao prince; she’s my consort. You have no right to punish her–!”
“Prince?” Dan Muyu sneered. “So what if you’re a prince? This is the Blood-Soul punishment, concerning the safety of our clan. She must be punished. Even if the king comes, I would still punish her–!”
“You–!” The young Nanzhao prince was furious but helpless. Could he really not protect Wu Simai?
