"Yu Cheng!"
Not far away, Lian Nanfeng let out a hysterical roar, an aura of terror bursting from his body, killing intent surging.
"Grand Elder, consider the bigger picture!"
An elder hurriedly grabbed Lian Nanfeng and whispered urgently.
"Yes, Grand Elder, if you can’t endure small things, you’ll spoil the greater plan. The most important thing now is to deal with Nangong Weiyang, don’t lose your head!" Someone else tried to persuade.
Lian Nanfeng clenched his fists tight, eyes full of murderous intent, glaring at Gu Zhan in the distance, grinding his teeth hard, but after a moment of silence, he flung his sleeve and turned away abruptly.
The other elders all breathed a sigh of relief at this, and one of them cupped his fist coldly toward Gu Zhan and said, "Palm Seal Gu, our Qianyu Sect still has important matters to deal with and cannot be hospitable—please leave!"
Gu Zhan chuckled lightly and said, "It’s not over yet. What’s the rush?"
The elder’s face instantly stiffened and he said coldly, "Palm Seal Gu, what do you mean by that?"
Gu Zhan pointed at the headless corpse on the ground and spoke in a cold tone: "It wasn’t just this one who went to my Beidou Bang’s territory to kill—hand over the others involved, all of them!"
"Gu Zhan!"
Lian Nanfeng, who had just been about to leave, exploded in rage and shouted: "Don’t get cocky! Do you really take Qianyu Sect for clay you can mold? Your Beidou Bang disciple was killed by Yu Cheng—now you’ve killed him to avenge that, what more do you want?"
Gu Zhan narrowed his eyes, his voice icy: "Utterly laughable. How shameless can your Qianyu Sect be? You killed my people for no reason, I had to catch the murderer myself, and now you think that’s just it? Do my people die for nothing?"
As he spoke, Gu Zhan kicked Yu Cheng’s headless corpse away, voice heavy: "He—his life paid for a life. But your Qianyu Sect failed to control your disciples, you owe an explanation, and you haven’t given it. When a dog bites a man, you don’t just beat the dog and ignore the owner. That’s not how this works. So—the other thirteen, hand them over; that’s compensation!"
Lian Nanfeng drew a deep breath, furious: "Gu Zhan, you’re pushing your luck! Do you really think I’ll let you walk all over me just because I gave you some face? Qianyu Sect aren’t soft persimmons anyone can squeeze. If you really want a fight to the death, then let’s go. Qianyu Sect will accompany you to the end!"
"Fine, then let’s fight!"
Gu Zhan lightly stomped his foot and swung himself onto his horse, shouting, "Beidou Bang disciples, hear my order—prepare!"
Instantly, warhorses neighed one after another, hooves striking the ground in waves. Hundreds of Embroidered Uniform Guard Death God Battalion troops mobilized in unison, drawing their crossbows—a string of mechanical clicks resounded.
A signal flare blasted into the sky.
In an instant, the air became heavy and utterly stifling.
The faces of the Qianyu Sect people all turned ugly,
especially Lian Nanfeng and his cronies. They didn’t expect Gu Zhan to still act so tough, even now, clearly determined to clash with Qianyu Sect to the bitter end.
Lian Nanfeng had thought Gu Zhan was just trying to push his luck, that if he held a hard enough stance, Gu Zhan would back down. Who would’ve thought—even after killing to vent his anger, Gu Zhan was still this unyielding.
For the moment, he found himself on the back of a tiger and unable to dismount.
Meanwhile, the representatives from other sects attending the assembly were all bewildered—they were just here as witnesses by invitation, not to join a fight with Qianyu Sect!
Just then—
From the sky beyond the square came a calm voice: "Palm Seal Gu, now that the killer has been slain, why must you provoke a bloody slaughter?"
Everyone looked over, and saw that it was Sect Leader Wei Wuya from Sword King City, leading all the major figures of Sword King City in person.
Upon seeing Wei Wuya and his group appear,
Lian Nanfeng, caught on the tiger’s back, finally breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t believe Gu Zhan would refuse a step down now that Sword King City was here to mediate.
Gu Zhan, still mounted, slowly turned his head to face Wei Wuya and said in a low tone: "Sect Leader Wei, is Sword King City planning to stop me from seeking justice for my brothers?"
Wei Wuya sighed, cupped his fists, and said: "Palm Seal Gu, let it be, let it be—why force matters to such extremes?"
Gu Zhan narrowed his eyes. "Sect Leader Wei, why don’t you shift the Bright Temple’s grand Buddha and sit there instead? You’re at least a martial arts notable, the leader of a great sect—yet say such nonsense. What if I kill a few of your disciples in Sword King City—should you just ’let it be’ too?"
At once, Sword King City’s people all flew into a rage, but Wei Wuya’s face remained calm, not a hint of anger. He raised a hand to quell the wrath of Sword King City’s crowd, looked at Gu Zhan, and sighed softly: "But, the killer has already been slain by you. The other Qianyu Sect disciples merely accompanied, they didn’t attack Beidou Bang disciples. Palm Seal Gu, I admit it was wrong to say ’let it be,’ and indeed, Qianyu Sect should compensate Beidou Bang—but that compensation shouldn’t be as heavy as thirteen lives."
"Exactly," a Qianyu Sect grandmaster barked, "Gu Zhan, even if compensation is due, it shouldn’t be thirteen lives for your Beidou Bang—your people aren’t so precious! If you really keep pushing, then it’s war. Your cultivation may be deep, Qianyu Sect may not be able to keep you, but of those you brought today, none will leave alive!"
Wei Wuya also sighed gently: "Palm Seal Gu, I know the law you abide by—might makes right. I’m not here to talk about right or wrong. But this is Qianyu Sect’s territory. Maybe they can’t kill you,
but if it comes to a fight to the death, aside from you, every one of Beidou Bang’s men will die here. Even you might not get away unscathed. Even if you could topple all of Qianyu Sect yourself, is it really worth so many lives? The cost is too great."
