Heavy Armored Cavalry are the most terrifying killing machines in the world, especially in a realm where cultivation powers exist—here, a Martial Artist can easily shatter the physical limits of a human body.
Such existences, coupled with heavy armor,
truly become machines of slaughter.
Normally, Heavy Armored Cavalry would have their power restricted inside cities, because of the abundance of buildings, but in this world, these heavy cavalry are simply too fearsome—ordinary buildings are nothing but bubbles before them.
Of course, there are buildings that can withstand the charge of Heavy Armored Cavalry,
but that absolutely doesn’t include ordinary structures like the Prefecture Government. Under the assault of the cavalry, its walls and houses are ground into dust as if they never existed.
Every warhorse fit to bear heavy armor is a rare beast, selected from thousands—top-notch steeds, each clad in hundreds of catty of thick armor, protecting the vulnerable neck and legs, instantly transforming into battlefield juggernauts.
And every soldier who becomes a Heavy Armored Soldier is a truly elite fighter; maybe their cultivation can’t compare to Martial World experts, but they can move freely beneath armors weighing over a hundred catty. Some can wear three or four hundred catty, wielding colossal weapons of twenty or thirty catty each.
If it’s one-on-one, head-on, strength against strength,
a Martial World expert of equal level can rely on agility to tangle with a Heavy Armored Cavalry, even achieving a solo kill or exhausting the cavalry’s strength—but if facing a full squad of them, even ten times their number in Martial World masters would be ground down with ease,
This is the terror of Heavy Armored Cavalry,
the true killing instruments of war.
And right now,
Wu Yang could only look on in shock at the charging Heavy Armored Cavalry advancing as if striding across level ground, his body utterly frozen on the spot,
"Impossible!"
"How could there possibly be Mystic Armor Guards in Linjiang City?"
"No way..."
There were less than a hundred riders, but these were a hundred killing machines. For such a terrifying force to appear in Linjiang City, it was impossible for the Six Great Families’ networks to have missed it.
At the same time,
following close behind the Heavy Armored Cavalry storming into the Prefecture Government were Rong Yichu and his Embroidered Uniform Guard, joined by many Martial World men.
"My lord!"
Rong Yichu was covered in blood, hair wild, astride a splendid steed, brandishing a saber and shouting madly, "Your student is late!"
Rong Yichu’s eyes were bloodshot, his whole body looking half-insane, paying no heed to the roaring flames as he charged straight toward the inferno’s heart.
In the main hall, the blaze roared,
Gu Zhan clutched his mouth and nose, also shaken by the sudden appearance of the Heavy Armored Cavalry—but hearing Rong Yichu’s voice, he hesitated no more. He may have had doubts, but he trusted whoever Rong Yichu brought must definitely be allies!
"Not late at all—you’ve come at the perfect moment!"
Gu Zhan swung his saber violently, surging Saber Qi cleaving open the sea of fire,
and in that instant shot from the flames like an arrow, several guards bursting out behind him at the same time.
As they burst from the blaze,
the two choppers in Gu Zhan’s hands flew spinning, burying themselves in the chests of two archers, sending their bodies flying backwards with the blades.
Gu Zhan unleashed his Qinggong, moving like a wraith,
appearing instantly behind the two archers, grabbing a hardwood bow and a couple of quivers from the ground, and with a light tap, his body soared into the air,
drew the bow, nocked an arrow, shot,
again, drew the bow, nocked, shot,
again, drew the bow, nocked, shot,
In just a few heartbeats, Gu Zhan had fired off dozens of arrows,
the feathered shafts raining down like a storm, never missing,
every arrow claiming a life.
At this moment,
Wu Yang had already fled under the cover of several experts,
the instant the Heavy Armored Cavalry appeared,
though he couldn’t fathom why the cavalry was here, he knew plans had failed. Without the slightest hesitation, under the escort of Second Master Wu and several Innate Martial Artists, he made for escape.
"Wu Yang, didn’t you want to kill me?"
Gu Zhan roared, stomping a Government Soldier’s skull to bits, leaping swiftly onto a rooftop,
three feathered arrows nocked on the string,
"Ching!"
With a crisp ring, the three arrows became streams of light, weaving bizarre arcs through the air, slipping through courtyard walls, flying straight for Wu Yang.
"Patriarch, watch out!"
A loyal bodyguard swung his sword to block.
However, as this volley landed,
another three feathered shafts followed hot behind—three guards fell dead in that instant.
Gu Zhan sprinted atop the rooftops like an eagle searching for prey, his body leaning low like a leopard, the hardwood bow held flat in his hands, string humming as arrow after arrow flashed out once more!
Sprinting, shooting!
Sprinting, shooting!
But ordinary hardwood bows and arrows couldn’t last long in Gu Zhan’s hands.
"Bow! Arrows! Blade!"
Still running madly, when the bow in his hands snapped, he kept moving—shouting as he ran.
By now,
several Personal Guards had prepared in advance; each with bows slung at their sides and quivers hanging, running fast behind Gu Zhan.
When Gu Zhan’s bow broke,
someone instantly tossed him another bow, another threw a quiver, and at the same time, a fine Horizontal Saber sailed through the air.
On a rooftop eave,
Gu Zhan stomped, spun in the air, caught bow and arrows, and fired off several more shafts in an instant.
Run, shoot,
run, shoot,
Gu Zhan was like a tireless machine,
relentlessly mowing down the Personal Guards of Wu Yang and the other Noble family heads,
their numbers dwindling,
so that by the time Wu Yang and his men reached the main street, few were left alive.
Wu Yang vaulted onto his horse,
Second Master Wu swung his sword, severing the tail of that fine warhorse,
and launched himself at unprecedented speed.
He and the remaining guards formed a block in the main street,
not far away, over a dozen feathered arrows came screaming in,
Gu Zhan’s speed kept up, loosing a barrage as he closed in.
Personal Guards fell one by one,
Second Master Wu gripped his long sword, face blank, staring down the onrushing Gu Zhan, his blade humming,
And now,
an arrow from Gu Zhan shot across,
Second Master Wu parried with his blade, tip to shaft,
A metallic wail, sparks flying,
The sword tip punctured the feathered shaft, and Second Master Wu’s feet tapped down lightly—like a dragonfly skimming the water—as he stabbed straight at Gu Zhan, that thrust shattering wind and storm,
Second Master Wu’s blue robe billowed in the fierce wind; his body already turned into a falling leaf, light and gentle—yet his entire being transformed into a sword, his fingertip pointing dead ahead, a sudden white line drawn across the chaotic sky in that instant.
Gu Zhan tossed away his bow and arrows,
this ordinary hardwood bow was simply too weak, unable to withstand his strength nor unleash a Shadow Arrow,
Had he the Cold Iron Bow now,
with just that last arrow,
he could have pierced Second Master Wu’s heart in one shot.
"Gu Zhan, I want to know—what’s the gap between me and the number one expert of Linjiang County!"
Second Master Wu advanced with his sword along the main street,
showing the resolve of one ready to die.
Gu Zhan drew the Horizontal Saber from his back with a cold voice,
"Watch closely. You have just one chance at this blade!"
