Seeing that the Winged Clan Guardian had agreed, Chen Yi restrained his cultivation aura, and the collapsing space around them finally returned to normal.
"See, this is the right way to do things, friendly cooperation. Who knows, maybe in the future our two realms can restore the glorious days of old, exchanging goods and ideas!"
Furry Divine stared at Chen Yi, as if pondering something.
"Are you really a human Guardian?"
"Genuine, no substitutes!"
"The glorious days you speak of should refer to the era when the Human Emperor's Palace still existed tens of thousands of years ago. Back then, all the major planes of the Void Realm revolved around the human world as their core. Everyone exchanged with each other, helped one another, and pursued the Dao together."
These stories Chen Yi had heard from ancient texts in the human world and from the older generation of Guardians.
It seemed the Winged Realm also cherished those memories.
"Exactly, look how great it was back then. Everyone was friends, not like now, where world wars are fought until heads are bloodied and people are killing each other over nothing. Tsk tsk tsk..."
"The one who first initiated the world war and confirmed that it was useful for achieving immortality was the last Human Emperor of your realm."
"Let the past be the past. There's no point in dwelling on it."
When the world war came up, Chen Yi asked a few more questions, wanting to know what the Winged Clan knew about this war that had swept across the Void Realm for tens of thousands of years.
Furry Divine's and the Winged Clan Guardian's understanding of the world war was largely the same as Founding Ancestor Shen's and the Demon Tribe's.
The Void Realm had a ceiling on cultivation. Late-stage Qi Transformation was the absolute peak. For the prodigies of every race, this ceiling was clearly too low to accept.
They wanted to go to the Real Realm, but for some unknown reason, the Real Realm couldn't accept ascensions anymore.
Having gone through the sixth simulation, Chen Yi had some insider knowledge. For instance, the Thunder Pool that Jin Hai mentioned was most likely the thing blocking Void Realm cultivators from ascending.
And so, tens of thousands of years ago, that batch of Void Realm geniuses, now highly likely the Human Emperor's Palace, came up with a solution.
Bypass the Real Realm and ascend directly to the Immortal Realm!
To accomplish this in the Void Realm meant requiring enormous resources and energy.
A single plane simply couldn't provide that.
So what to do?
Naturally, pool the power of many planes together.
The problem was, why should resources go to you and not me?
This irreconcilable conflict would inevitably escalate into war to settle it.
And not just a war for one generation.
The Void Realm had too many planes.
It would require dozens of generations, even a hundred generations, or endless descendants fighting on forever, all for the sake of some distant future generation being able to truly ascend to the Immortal Realm!
"That was the original idea. In reality, after tens of thousands of years, the taste of the world war has gone stale in many planes."
The Winged Clan Guardian told Chen Yi.
At least in the Winged Realm, no one cared anymore about what the ultimate goal of the world war was.
What did war mean?
Military merit.
What did military merit mean?
A path for advancement.
Right now, if Furry Divine announced that all wars would cease and it was time to recover and rebuild,
then the very next day, he would be dragged down from his divine throne.
The powerful clans and aristocratic families of the Winged Clan would elect a new leader who supported continued warfare.
The Winged Clan had been waging world wars for many years, winning more than they lost.
So the Winged Realm wasn't short on resources.
The reason they kept fighting was simply that this massive war machine and system had become impossible to stop.
And some planes, lacking resources, threw themselves into the world war just to gain more.
"In other words, in the chaotic mess that is the Void Realm right now, very few people actually care about the original goal of the world war. Everyone's just discovered the shortcuts and benefits that war brings. Either they fight defensively, or they attack as the best defense."
Furry Divine nodded.
"I once came across a more detailed legend about the world war in a certain plane. In it, there was no mention of total victory in the world war leading to immortality."
"Then what is the world war truly connected to?"
"The writing was too ancient. I could only recognize part of it, not the full meaning. It seemed to be about resisting something."
"The people of the Void Realm are busy fighting each other. What could they possibly be resisting?"
"On that point, this one is not certain."
In truth, Furry Divine didn't really care either.
He could live several more lifetimes and still never see the end of the world war.
Securing his own position was the only thing he needed to worry about in this life.
"Oh, right, one more thing. Now that the Sun Moon Tower from my human world is placed here, someone might come coveting it or trying to destroy it. If you discover anyone making a move against the Earth Spirit, remember to eliminate them and send word to me promptly!"
Furry Divine and the Winged Clan Guardian were unhappy to hear this.
"So this was your real goal all along? You want to use the Winged Clan's strength to deal with your enemies for you?"
Chen Yi smiled and waved his hand.
"A character like that, who only dares to hide in dark corners, isn't worthy of being called my enemy."
"If even someone of your caliber considers them a threat, I fear the Winged Clan cannot stand against them. I don't want my people to suffer casualties over this. If someone comes for your Sun Moon Tower, the most I can do is find a way to send word to the human world. I cannot fight them."
The Winged Clan currently claimed to be ranked in the top five among the myriad races of the Void Realm in world war achievements.
Their ability to cross world barriers was naturally well-established. Sending a message to Chen Yi was obviously no problem at all.
The five unlucky fools of Xuan Lan were only delayed over a hundred years reaching the human world because they tried to monopolize the Path to Immortality and refused to cooperate with the authorities.
"No way. This person has the power to destroy the Five Element Root Vessels. If you don't at least hold them back, by the time I get here, the Sun Moon Tower will just be a pile of spare parts. What would I even come back for?"
"Then I still cannot stake my clan's fate on helping you!"
Chen Yi sighed helplessly and released his Extreme Terrain Realm cultivation aura once again.
The Winged Realm began to collapse again.
Well then.
Furry Divine and the Winged Clan Guardian were crying without tears.
If they agreed, there was risk.
If they didn't agree, there was indeed no risk, because there would be no world left!
The Winged Clan Guardian caved again. He seemed much more easygoing than Furry Divine.
"Rest assured! We will arrange an elite squad of ten late-stage Qi Transformation cultivators to guard the Earth Spirit in shifts!"
Furry Divine was displeased.
"Guardian, you..."
"Divine One, think about it carefully. If the 'person' the human Guardian spoke of comes to destroy the Sun Moon Tower and has the power to shatter the Five Element Root Vessels, then they would definitely harm our Earth Spirit as well. We should act regardless."
"But this misfortune wouldn't have fallen on us in the first place. It's all because of..."
He didn't finish the sentence.
In the face of Chen Yi's absolute power, Furry Divine had no choice but to yield.
Still, Chen Yi offered him some consolation.
"Don't be upset. The one trying to destroy the human world's Five Element Root Vessels won't stop at just the human world. Every plane's root cores are his targets, including your Winged Realm, of course.
I'm just letting you get involved in this struggle against the 'Black Hand' ahead of time."
The Winged Clan Guardian smiled bitterly.
"You're actually not a bad guy..."
All the matters that needed to be discussed were settled.
Chen Yi coordinated with the Winged Clan Guardian to deliver the Sun Moon Tower into the Winged Realm's Earth Spirit for nurturing.
The Earth Spirit didn't even need any convincing. Seeing that the Sun Moon Tower was damaged, it voluntarily took on the task of repair.
It wasn't that it couldn't tell this artifact wasn't from its own plane. Even knowing that, it willingly consumed its own spirituality to restore it.
