The inside of this Gate World seemed somewhat different from other Gate Worlds.
After entering, Fang Xiu saw a huge crowd of people.
"Looks like the setup for this Gate World isn’t like the previous ones, where we’d appear in a random spot. Here, everyone’s at the same starting line."
Fang Xiu said, looking at his surroundings.
Chu Qingxue, beside him, nodded slightly. "There are three paths ahead. Which one do we take?"
A single road split into three paths before them.
Quite a few students had already set off.
There were plenty of people on all three paths.
They didn’t know what distinguished the three paths, where they led, or how the distances varied.
So naturally, they didn’t act too hastily.
"When we first came in, Demon Beasts attacked on the middle path. They must have ambushed the first wave of people, but they were killed quickly!"
Fang Xiu pointed to the Demon Beast corpses on the middle path not far away.
They were three Level 5 Demon Beasts, whose strength was nothing to be feared by these people.
Their true purpose was just to remind these students who were in such a rush that charging into the Demon Beast Battlefield like this was an easy way to get killed.
The Demon Beast Battlefield was crawling with Demon Beasts, and you never knew what their Level would be.
A Level 20 Awakened could run into a Level 50 Demon Beast.
That would be a death sentence.
So, sometimes, you couldn’t be so rash. Otherwise, you could easily lose your life.
Caution had to be the top priority.
"That path has Demon Beasts... Brother Fang, should we go left?"
Luo Xing glanced to the left. That path had no Demon Beasts, and many people were taking it.
Then he glanced to the right... it seemed to have plenty of people as well.
"It looks like the right path doesn’t have any Demon Beasts, either."
Luo Xing was in a bind.
For a moment, he had no idea whether to choose left or right.
"Let’s go down the middle,"
Chu Qingxue said, heading straight for the center path.
Fang Xiu also smiled and stepped onto the middle path.
The two of them moved at almost the exact same time.
"Hey!"
Luo Xing hadn’t expected Fang Xiu and Chu Qingxue to actually take the center path.
"Brother Fang, Sister Chu, didn’t you say the middle path has Demon Beasts?"
Luo Xing asked curiously as he hurried to catch up with them.
Weren’t there supposed to be more Demon Beasts in the middle?
"These Demon Beasts are all deliberately placed. A wave has already appeared here, so it’s highly unlikely they’d place another one nearby. That would be too unfair to the students taking the middle path."
Fang Xiu explained, "This isn’t a real Demon Beast Battlefield. While it’s meant to be a trial and a way to monitor us, they also have to ensure the competition is fair."
"So the middle path should be clear of Demon Beasts for a while?"
Luo Xing was starting to understand.
"Yes, that’s correct. But this logic only applies here. In the Demon Beast Battlefield, Gate Worlds, and other such places, the Demon Beasts appear naturally and certainly won’t play by any rules. You might even find the entire path swarming with them!"
Fang Xiu knew this Gate World was artificial.
So of course, they had to ensure the competition was fair.
A wave of Demon Beasts had already appeared on the middle path.
That meant a wave should appear on the other two paths as well.
This was, therefore, the path least likely to have a Demon Beast encounter.
"Okay, I get it!"
Luo Xing nodded slightly.
A moment later, he asked curiously, "So when will we run into Demon Beasts on this path?"
"Probably after the people on the other two paths have run into Demon Beasts. That’s when the competition will become more balanced, and we’ll start seeing them too,"
Fang Xiu continued.
Chu Qingxue, beside him, added, "And to keep the competition fair, they probably won’t have to go far on the left and right paths before hitting Demon Beasts. The first wave of students who rushed in and didn’t take the middle path might have already run into them!"
"I think so, too."
Fang Xiu nodded slightly.
But Luo Xing was still a little lost. "So... when will *we* run into them?"
"They entered the Gate World about a minute before us, so they only have a minute’s head start. It should be soon. After we walk for a minute, there will probably be more forks in the road to split everyone up,"
Fang Xiu said after a moment’s thought.
After all, with so many people, if there were only three paths, the people at the front would be exhausting themselves killing Demon Beasts...
...while the people in the back have a smooth ride. Who wouldn’t want to hang back in that case?
So obviously, they needed to be separated further.
"Maybe there won’t even be a path,"
Chu Qingxue said.
"Huh?"
Luo Xing froze.
Fang Xiu and Chu Qingxue just exchanged a knowing smile and said no more.
And sure enough, they hadn’t walked much farther when the path in front of them disappeared.
"Looks like you were right!"
Fang Xiu said with a smile, looking at Chu Qingxue.
Ahead of them was an overgrown field of weeds, with a forest in the distance.
In other words, from this point on, each team would have to rely on its own strength and... luck.
If they were lucky and didn’t encounter any Demon Beasts, they could move forward more quickly.
After all, the goal here wasn’t to hunt Demon Beasts but to test their overall performance.
Being able to effectively avoid danger was also a required skill in the Demon Beast Battlefield.
They were just students, only around Level 10+.
If they went to the Demon Beast Battlefield and couldn’t effectively avoid Demon Beasts, they’d have no way to escape if they encountered a powerful one.
"So which way do we go now?"
Luo Xing had no idea what he was supposed to do.
’As long as I follow Fang Xiu, I should be able to reach the final boss.’
