"There really are new monsters coming..."
"What is this thing? It’s not something we’ve seen before in the Central Plains."
"Probably a mutant from the Extreme North Region."
"It’s quite tasty though..."
"Iron Sister’s cooking is really good."
"Oh ho ho, you really know how to speak! Here, have another piece!"
Although this battle didn’t really deplete much stamina, after all, they had killed a Nascent Soul Demon, everyone gathered around, lit a fire on the spot to cook, butcher the body, and divvy up the meat, celebrating with a meal.
This Great Demon was truly unlucky, a grand Nascent Soul Monster, without even a chance to show its abilities, appeared and got hammered, beaten violently, decapitated, and died an untimely death, becoming food for the victors.
You could only say that beasts are beasts after all, they don’t understand unity and cooperation, so they deserve to be taken down.
Thus, in a flurry of activity, they divided the tiger meat for those doing Body Refinement, the snake gall for those doing Qi Refining, and the vitamin-rich innards mixed with oats were fed to the horses, and everyone ate heartily, not only replenishing their spirit, but it seemed like their Cultivation also improved a bit.
Unlike the Foundation Establishment cultivators who were still celebrating joyously and excitedly because of killing the Great Demon, the three Mystic Sect Golden Core cultivators all realized that things probably weren’t looking good.
Liu Chaoyan said solemnly,
"Brother Tie, your calculations were spot on, it seems the demon nests going south have already reached Yanmen, I fear that with that roe owl, there are more than just one or two Great Demons with it, this journey might be extremely perilous."
Liu Changqing holding the wolf brush was helping Xuanjian with the vermillion fire seal, also worried,
"If it’s just one, and we know its weaknesses, we could gather our strengths and kill it instantly with no problem.
But if it’s a group of them, And all of them are Arctic Giant Demons whose methods we don’t know, and then encounter those unexpected abilities of the mutants...
We could be the ones torn apart instantly when we make contact."
Tie Dan was silent for a while,
"The Nine Border Towns in the Northern Territory, except for Shuofang which is in the hands of Kan Country, must have a large army guarding them and holding the retreat routes, and the situation at the other Eight Passes might be similar to Yanmen.
If we were to lose this battle too, I think those other places probably wouldn’t be able to hold either.
By then, the whole Northern Territory would be wide open, with no defenses in Genzhou, I fear the demon tide will push all the way to the Gen River."
Tie Dan’s continual talk of ominous things dampened everyone’s mood, making them not able to swallow the meat in their mouths.
Nie Gang suddenly looked slightly expectantly at all the cultivators,
"I wonder if the Mystic Sect experts could take this opportunity to exterminate the demons? Surely the towns in Hebei would all defect and welcome the Royal Army?"
The Two Lius exchanged glances with each other, shaking their heads with a bitter smile.
Tie Dan, chewing on the meat,
"Forget it, the Mystic Sect doesn’t bother with mortal affairs. They even hope for more demon beasts to refine into Elixirs and magic treasures.
Especially at times like this, even though many mortals die, the human Dao seeds will also arise due to the calamity, which greatly increases the Mystic Sect’s fate."
San Nie was speechless, but the Two Lius were curious,
"Brother Tie, you know so much, these things are mostly kept deeply hidden within the sects, yet you know the True Inheritors, are you the direct heir of the Sword Sect Honzan?"
Tie Dan’s face darkened,
"Let’s move once we’re full, lest more and more demons gather, making it impossible to deal with them."
After that, everyone adjusted their formation and walked for more than a dozen miles, but unfortunately, they couldn’t fish out anything more.
Presumably, the power to instantly kill a Nascent Soul Demon was too terrifying, even the likes of the crafty and cunning roe owls wouldn’t dare rush to their deaths heedlessly.
So Tie Dan deduced that after these probing, both sides now had a clear understanding, the next battle could likely be the decisive one.
He then also changed the formation, gathering everyone together, with Tie Dan taking the lead in front, while San Nie guarded with a bow on the side, protecting everyone in the formation.
"It’s that mountain, we chased them here last time."
Tie Dan holding the Compass, observed the mountain topography, easily deducing where the Spiritual Qi gathered based on the feng shui and Dao Meridian.
Originally, there weren’t many feng shui treasures in the mortal world, and even fewer Spirit Caves that could house Great Demons, so Tie Dan took a Moment to observe the Qi and looked at Zhen Baiyu,
"Can you sense it?"
Baiyu frowned and shook his head,
"There seems to be a restriction on the mountain, or a very deep cave cutting off any probing."
Nie Gang surveyed the mountain terrain, nodding,
"It can’t be seen from here, but the north side of the mountain has a deep ravine, we used to drive the prey there during hunting, and if outsiders unfamiliar with the terrain gallop through, they might fall to their death."
Liu Chaoyan and Liu Changqing also said,
"With the little skill we have, it’s difficult to set up an array to attack the mountain and force the demons out, we’d need to enter the mountain for a direct assault."
Tie Dan thought for a moment,
"Today there’s no rush, it’s getting dark, let’s set up camp in a Qi Cave in Shanyang. You guys set up formations to guard against a frontal attack. I’ll sneak down under the cover of night to scout ahead."
"Brother Tie, just you alone?" "Wouldn’t that be too dangerous..."
Tie Dan remained expressionless, "Don’t worry, since we’re here, I’ll leave a few for you all to handle."
Seeing Tie Dan so confident, and his Daoist companion seeming unperturbed, as if not worried at all, everyone went ahead with the plan.
The Two Lius from Heng Mountain took out their respective magic treasures to stabilize the formation, setting up the Array, while Baiyu gathered the horses, and San Nie took turns standing guard, and even mounted the snake head and tiger head on horse lances, standing them on both sides of the camp entrance.
Hey, that’s arrogance, that’s taunting, if you’ve got a species, come at us.
And Tie Dan, meanwhile, while everyone was flaunting themselves in front of the mountain, attracting attention, used the Yishan Guard Earth Element Technique to quietly slip into the deep ravine.
This was so much easier than infiltrating a camp, those monsters were easy to find, after all, they only recently arrived from the north, and no one had planned to stay long in the remote wilderness of Yanmen. They were basically just resting briefly at this Spiritual place. At this time, a group of Great Demons were holding a conference by the pond at the bottom of the ravine...
Tie Dan sneaked behind the scene and counted quietly, two, four, six, eight...
Well, eight, Nascent Soul, Great Demons...
Goodness, what a joke, the bottom of the ravine was filled to the brim, counting the dead tiger head, that’s nine Great Demons!
This trial might just be too ridiculous! They only had seven people here in total, yet the other side had nine demons? Might as well count the horses in too...
Even Tie Dan was speechless, how could they possibly fight, this was ten deaths without a single life spared, get away, get away...
"Damn it, these youngsters have gone too far! Camping right under our noses! It’s a complete insult to us!
Noble demons, please stay here for a moment! I, Chi Wu, will go attack them and snatch a couple of them insects to enjoy with wine!"
Tie Dan peeked out to see a flat-feathered bird creature screeching loudly, making the ravine shake with its heavenly noise.
Then among the group, the most tall and conspicuous roe owl said,
"Chi Wu King, don’t be hasty, these are just foot soldiers at best, do not fall for a feigned weakness trap."
"A trap?"
"Indeed, a trap! I’ve crossed paths with them twice, I’ve already found out! Those two mages are indeed from Shanqing Dao, and they have a Divinity Transformation Treasure hidden!"
"What!" "What!" "Divinity Transformation!"
The crowd of monsters and Tie Dan were shocked!
The roe owl got out of the group, pacing back and forth in the deep pool and raised its only arm, surveying the monsters.
"Indeed, thank you all for coming in response to my invitation, I ask for your help now to join forces against that very Divinity Transformation Treasure!
And by this calamity, to break through Yanmen Pass in one move, plunge into the Central Plains, annihilate those insects and regain our Spiritual Clan’s lands!"
Chi Wu King swallowed,
"But... that is... a Divinity Transformation..."
The monsters’ morale dropped.
The roe owl clearly expected this reaction,
"Noble King, fear not, the magic treasure is damaged from numerous battles, its Spiritual Power is severely lacking, and the Artifact Spirit is long since in slumber.
And those two from the Shangqing Dao, they’re merely apprentices on a field trip, with their abilities, they can’t even unleash a tenth of the magic treasure’s power.
Even if they sacrifice their lives and pour their entire cultivation to activate the treasure, they could at most kill one or two of us.
As long as we swarm them unexpectedly, striking before they are prepared, and kill those two immediately, there is nothing to worry about."
The monsters’ morale returned to full.
"Yep yep, surely they can’t kill all eight of us at once, heh!" "Indeed indeed!" "Sure sure!"
However, Chi Wu, despite cawing loudly, was not foolish, he calculated and voiced out the mismatch,
"Wait a moment, there was no Treasure Light and Strong King was instantly killed, there should be another expert among them, right?"
"Right! Strong King was so powerful yet instantly taken down, this might be tough!" "Indeed it is!"
The monsters’ morale dropped.
Tie Dan glanced at Chi Wu and decided to kill the smart ones first.
"Previously, Strong King wouldn’t heed my advice and looked down on the insects, wanting to flaunt his strength, and ended up being a victim. This was seeking death himself.
What’s more, the current battle also involves the insect’s luck, it’s inevitable if a few potent larva arise..."
Before the roe owl could finish, Chi Wu screeched,
"That makes even less sense, the numbers should match if it’s a calamity, I count us nine, with the Artifact Spirit added to the opponents, there’s still one missing..."
"No problem! That’s easy, I’ve figured it out!"
The roe owl paced, scanning around the monsters,
"The missing one naturally is the Yanmen Guardian of the Demon Palace! So, I’ve already set up three demonic power clones inside and outside Yanmen to disturb, to ensure that the Yanmen Guardian would dare not come out or support!
Moreover, I have read the stars and received guidance from the Heavenly Humans, identifying this mountain has special magnetic stones which interfere with Spiritual Waves, concealing our Spiritual Power. Letting the insect clan not trace us, perfect for an ambush!
We only have to wait for those insects to descend the mountain and deliver themselves to us, then we can swarm them all! Kill them all! Then directly take Yanmen by storm, it’s a done deal!
Right now, the time, geographical advantage, and people are all on my side! Why can’t we win this battle!"
Chi Wu King was elated,
"What! King Gou Wu can communicate with Heavenly Humans! No wonder so confident! That’s wonderful! We will surely win this battle! Ha ha!"
"Yes indeed, yes indeed, King Gou Wu is carrying out tasks for the Heavenly Humans, how can there be a defeat, this will be a solid win!" "Awesome!" "Well said!"
The roe owl also glared at Chi Wu, deciding to let the smart one die first.
