Only Got My Martial Arts Modifier in My Old Age
Chapter 287: Chapter 149: A Literal Scapegoat, the Entire Gong Family Migrates to Yun Port City
Before this, the Gong Family had already been gradually relocating from the Eastern Province to Yun Port City.
The Eastern Province and its surrounding regions had all fallen into the hands of the Yin Court remnants.
Those Yin Court remnants had numerous masters, and their firearms were supplied by the Wa Country and the Western Countries. They were well-equipped and well-trained—far beyond what a traditional Martial Arts Family like the Gongs could possibly fight.
At first, the Gong Family had wanted to hold out a little longer, to wait and see how things developed. But as the situation worsened by the day and the surrounding powers fell one by one, they finally understood.
’We can’t wait any longer. If we do, what awaits us isn’t a turn for the better, but the annihilation of our family.’
Thus, the five remaining Elders of the Gong Family made a difficult decision: to completely abandon the Eastern Province and move everyone to Yun Port City.
The five Elders rode at the very front, their faces impassive. The expressions of the Gong Family members following behind them, however, were far more complex.
"Yun Port City—we’ve finally arrived!"
They had traveled all the way from the Eastern Province, a journey that had taken them a full month. They had crossed war-torn borders, bypassed the blockades of the Yin Court army, traversed mountains and rivers, and slept under the open sky.
Inside the Gong Family’s main hall, Gong Yuanshan stood in the center. He gave a deep bow to the five Elders seated in the seats of honor and said, his voice filled with emotion, "Yuanshan pays his respects to the Grand Elder, Second Elder, Fourth Elder, Sixth Elder, and Seventh Elder."
He couldn’t help but sigh, remembering how prestigious the Gong Family had once been in the Eastern Province.
With two clan elders at the Peak of Huajin Grandmaster and seven Elders who were Grandmasters of Huajin, they were considered one of the most prominent families in the entire Daxia New Country.
Now, only these five Elders remained. Of the two old clan elders, one had been possessed by an Outer Celestial Demon and had gone on a mad killing spree within the family.
The other clan elder, together with the seven Elders, had managed to slay it, but at the cost of one Elder’s life.
But before they could even catch their breath, the remnants of the Yin Court launched an attack.
The sole remaining clan elder of the Gong Family, though severely injured and not yet healed, led his people to meet the enemy.
In that battle, the clan elder fell, and another Elder died alongside him. Countless disciples were killed or wounded, leaving only the people present today.
The hall fell silent for a moment. The female Grand Elder, seated at the head, was the first to speak, her voice calm and steady. "Yuanshan, your suggestion back then was indeed the right one. I am glad I sent you and Gong Ning to Yun Port City."
She paused, her gaze resting on Gong Yuanshan, her tired eyes filled with gratification. "If you hadn’t laid a foundation here for us ahead of time, the rest of us in the Gong Family likely wouldn’t even have a place to stay."
Beside her, the male Second Elder interjected, his voice booming and full of energy. "Speaking of which, where’s that little girl, Gong Ning? Why don’t I see her?"
He glanced around, looked out the door, and finally couldn’t help but frown.
In this generation of the Gong Family, that girl, Gong Ning, was the greatest prodigy. She was the perfect candidate to one day break through and become a Grandmaster of Divine Intent.
’All of us old fogeys are counting on that girl now.’
Gong Yuanshan smiled faintly and replied, "Ning’Er is in seclusion. She felt the bottleneck at the Peak of Anjin begin to loosen, so she’s been attempting to break through to become a Grandmaster of Huajin for the past few days."
Upon hearing this, the five Elders’ eyes lit up. The Grand Elder nodded repeatedly, the wrinkles on her face seeming to smooth out. "Good, good. That’s wonderful."
The Second Elder and the others joined in, laughing heartily. But as Gong Yuanshan looked at the smiles on the old-timers’ faces, he felt a pang of sorrow in his heart.
’There were once so many elders,’ he thought, ’and now only these few remain.’ He said nothing of this, simply giving another deep bow and stating with conviction, "Please rest assured, Elders. With Lord Lu here in Yun Port City, no one will dare to touch our Gong Family."
