The sedan didn’t head for the Lu Family estate, but drove straight to Ren’an Hospital in Yun Port City.
The moment the car came to a stop outside the hospital entrance, the passenger-side door was flung open.
Lu Yun paid no mind to the excited stares. His gaze fell upon the information desk about ten feet away, where a young female doctor with a neat, short haircut was standing.
As for Lu Fu and the injured Lu Jingyao in his arms, they were instinctively overlooked, eclipsed by Lu Yun’s ineffable presence.
He wasn’t particularly concerned. Under the sweep of his Divine Sense, Lu Jingyao’s condition was perfectly clear to him.
Behind them, Lu Jingyao’s own father, Lu Yun, exited the car unhurriedly and followed slowly after Lu Fu.
The second-floor hallway was also brightly lit, with incandescent bulbs leaving no corner in shadow.
The doctors, who had been gaping just a moment before, instantly sprang into action. They scrambled forward, each one trying to be the first to help.
Back then, his eldest son, Lu Jingteng, had been possessed by a wraith from Ghost Wail Ridge, and she and her father had personally come to their home to treat him.
The doctors and nurses on duty, along with the patients in the waiting area, were all minding their own business.
Lu Yun didn’t waste time on further pleasantries. He glanced at Lu Fu, who was on the verge of tears with anxiety, then looked at the doctors who had finally snapped out of their stupor, and said with a smile,
Now, seeing the boy covered in wounds, Lu Fu’s eyes welled with tears.
A man in a wheelchair, who had been waiting listlessly for his number to be called, saw the figure clearly. And then, a true medical miracle occurred.
In an instant, the entire lobby erupted. The waiting patients scrambled to their feet, craning their necks to get a better look.
Her hands were trembling. She took a deep breath, barely managing to compose herself before speaking. "Lord Lu!"
’His life force is strong and his breathing is steady. There’s nothing seriously wrong.’
Gu Yuexi stood rooted to the spot, struggling to suppress the inexpressible excitement welling up inside her.
The man in the wheelchair shot to his feet, crying out in excitement, "It’s Lord Lu! Lord Lu is here!"
Furthermore, the way Gu Yuexi looked at Lu Yun was no longer so casual. Her gaze was filled with profound reverence, as if she were looking upon a great and powerful being.
"As it happens, my dad is in surgery right now, operating on a girl who was rescued. She was buried under the rubble and was very seriously injured. If she hadn’t been brought here in time..."
He burst into the ground-floor lobby carrying Lu Jingyao and immediately bellowed, "Doctor! Help, quickly!"
The only reason so many doctors were on duty tonight was because of the massive explosion and intense gunfight at Da Xin Publishing House.
The man leaning on a cane, dressed in a black tunic suit, with a face that everyone recognized.
Drowsy family members were suddenly wide awake and alert. The young doctors, realizing what was happening, stared wide-eyed at the approaching, cane-wielding figure.
Gu Yuexi, daughter of his old friend Gu Chuanjian. Lu Yun remembered their last meeting had been just a few months ago.
’He won’t die, and that’s what matters. At worst, he’ll be in the hospital for half a year. It’s about time the boy learned a hard lesson anyway.’
The ground-floor lobby was brightly lit, its incandescent bulbs illuminating every corner. A plaque reading "Ren’an Hospital" hung on the wall, and a sparse line of a few people waited at the registration window.
Lu Yun smiled faintly and nodded to her. "Yue Xi, it’s been a while." The Gu Yuexi he met then was still a somewhat mischievous girl, with an air of youthful arrogance.
Lu Fu leaped out, scrambled frantically to the back seat, and carefully lifted the unconscious Lu Jingyao into his arms. He then bolted toward the hospital doors.
The scent of disinfectant hung in the air. Here, too, patients, families, doctors, and nurses were all busy with their own affairs.
The doctor was pretty, with delicate features and fair skin. She wore a white lab coat, and her bright eyes were now fixed on Lu Yun in disbelief.
The less severely wounded soldiers were sent to hospitals farther away, but the dozen or so most critical cases were brought here for immediate treatment.
When they fell and scraped their knees as children, it was Lu Fu who picked them up, soothing them while dabbing on liniment. When they were sick with a fever, he was the one who kept vigil by their beds, changing the cool cloths on their foreheads again and again. When they stumbled while learning to walk, he was the one who helped them back to their feet.
"Quick! Get him to the ER! Prepare to stop the bleeding! Get the surgical instruments ready!"
Having spent the better part of his life with the Lu Family, Lu Fu was practically an elder to the younger generation.
But then Lu Fu burst in, and his panicked expression as he carried the injured man made everyone turn to look. Of course, the person who truly stunned them all was the figure following behind.
Now, after only a few short months, she had become poised and elegant, much more mature than when they had first met.
Lu Yun gave a slight nod. "Take me to see them." The person pushing his wheelchair stared in stunned silence for a moment, then also began to shout, "It’s Lord Lu! It really is Lord Lu!"
He had watched all of them—Lu Jingyao, Jingteng, Jing Jun—grow up. He didn’t rush to follow Lu Fu. Instead, he turned back to Gu Yuexi and asked, "By the way, Yue Xi, the injured from the Da Xin Publishing House incident were all brought here, weren’t they?"
Gu Yuexi’s head bobbed up and down in a rapid nod. "Yes, Lord Lu!"
"Let’s save the pleasantries for later. My son’s condition doesn’t look good. I’ll have to trouble you to take a look at him."
But when they saw Lu Yun appear, the entire hallway fell silent.
